#2TB NTFS partition not recognized (usb loader gx or wiiflow) after installing 600gb of games

Hey guys,
first I wanted to ask: Am I allowed to post the links to the guides I used for reference?
If so I'd add them after verifying this.
The SD/HDD/Wii files should all be up to date, as I used the wii.guide just a week or 2 ago.
If there is a way to share logs or anything please tell me. I am a bit new to this but read a lot.

I bought myself a used wii (PAL version) a few months ago and started the tutorial of the wii.guide.
I saw, while doing this, the previous owner of the wii already made costumizations to the cIOS but as the guide intended I updated the ones, that where needed for the guide. (I did not find a guide on how to reset my switchs cios back to normal, is there a way?)

So after following the guide and the wii being setup properly I started to format the drive with 2 partitions, after searching days in reddit etc. how to properly format the drive.
(sadly it's a Seagate 4TB drive and not a WD drive and I was not able to format it to 4TB FAT32 with the seagate drive wizard, but maybe I used it wrong and there is a premium subscription I did not pay for)

I already tried reformatting it to different partition sizes and formats but all failed so far (MBR and GPT).
I tried: (I found some useful comments on GBAtemp I used to format the drives)

  1. first partition FAT32 700TB, 2. partition NTFS 3TB
  2. first partition FAT32 1TB, 2. partition NTFS 2.7TB
  3. first partition FAT32 1.5TB, 2. partition NTFS 2.5TB
I tried more, but these were the most stable for me in given order.

I wasn't able to format anything larger than 1TB to WBFS with the Wii Backup Manager as it does not show the right amount of TB/GB in the app. Is this a known bug or is there no 2TB support? (I know this is an old format, but everywhere I looked for information it was still mentioned. In the comments on GBAtemp it was stated I would be able to format any kind of drive size to wbfs format [not the folder, but the drive format])

So now to the "real" problem: (the problem is partition 2, I'd assume. As everytime installing a lot of files in there, it immediately "crashes" things on the wii)

First things first, the set up HDD works perfectly on the Wii directly after formatting the drive with Seagate Drive Wizard to one of the examples above, for example FAT 32 700GB on the first partition and 3TB NTFS on the second. The Wii recognizes the drive and has access to it, so far.

Even after installing some files (about 15gb via Wii Backup Manager lets call it WBM or GC isos via drag and drop lol) on the FAT32 partition, everything on the wii still works.
USB Loader, wiiflow and file managers can see the drive and the folder, have access to it and display the games that were installed.

The next step was installing a few games on the NTFS drive (~50gb of games) just to see if something would fail.
Nope , nothing failed. All files were, as above, installed properly with WBM and showed up in the loaders and were playable.

BUT! When now continuing to install more games with given working methode I always end up getting DSI exceptions or USB Loader GX is directly freezing when getting to the main screen after the loading screen.
I tried this the first time loading up about over a TB of Wii games on the second partition, but even when only loading up about 500-600GB it kept freezing and showing the DSI error. Wiiflow is doing the same.

I had a custom theme installed on the wii but I resetted it with downloading and installing the right Wii system menu again.

Could this be a broken game file that freezes the loader? Is this possible?
Could this be related to the FAT32 partition?
Is this even fixable?

TBH I am not sure what to do next, that's why I'm writing in here.
I'm a bit lost.
I just hope someone in here had the same problem and that I don't have to buy a 4TB WD drive. 🙏

Thank you very much for your effort and even reading all this!

Are you using a NTFS partition for games

limpid cosmos
#

only for Wii games that were transfered via Wii Backup Manager

sly sphinx
#

bro

limpid cosmos
#

thats the reason for partiton 2 in general

sly sphinx
#

NTFS partitions are unstable

#

FAT32 may fix it

limpid cosmos
#

so is there then a way to format 2tb to wbfs?

sly sphinx
#

i don't know

#

you can use FAT32

#

it works cool

limpid cosmos
#

well sadly not...

#

2 partitons FAT32 didnt work for me and I was not able to setup my seagate 4tb drive to FAT32

#

with the seagate drive wizard

sly sphinx
#

WHY ARE YOU USING 4TB

#

2TB and lesser is more stable

#

they are pretty much recommended

#

you should check your hdd on the compatbility list too

#

maybe its there

#

bro are you typing a demon

limpid cosmos
# sly sphinx WHY ARE YOU USING 4TB

you don't need to scream ;)
the reason is that I only have this drive here and I didn't want to buy a new one.
I'll check the list again, but I guess it's buying a 4TB WD drive then.

#

dont use 4tb

#

get a 2tb

#

🙂

limpid cosmos
#

I wanted to store GC games and Wii games on it as I read 4TB when using multipartiton would work nicely

#

okay I will keep this in mind

#

you us guys have -15 degrees celsius weather

#

its 15 degrees and its cold asf

#

limpid cosmos
#

-15 sounds freezing cold, are you from the north?

sly sphinx
#

im from freaking india

#

its cold

limpid cosmos
#

well stay safe then

#

Thanks so far,
still if someone could answer these questions please:

Could this also be related to a broken game file that freezes the loader? Is this possible?
Could this be related to the NTFS partition? And is there a better way of setting up 4TB drives (especially seagate drives?
