#Just wondering how to actually play dumped wii games on this thing
107 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Oh what? I didn't see that part, no i haven't
well if you want to use a usb loader you have to
"Once you have downloaded all three IOS, there will be a folder named titles in the same folder as the NUS Downloader. Open the folder and navigate through them until you locate the three WAD files you downloaded. Place each of WAD files on the root of your SD card or USB drive." when it says wad files does it just mean the 3 folders it created?
nevermind
I can't get usb loader to work right now
No it does not mean the folders.
It means the actual .wad file in each of the 3 folders.
Yeah i got that
To help troubleshoot your issue please run Syscheck and test all IOS on your Wii by following this guide:
https://wii.guide/syscheck
When it's done it will generate and display a syscheck.csv file.
If you have an SD, power down the Wii and insert the SD into a PC. Drag and drop the syscheck.csv file from the root of your SD into chat.
If you don't have an SD, you might get an error. Just continue until the report is displayed. You will need to upload the report and link the URL to chat or take photos of the entire report.
Looks good
@peak verge
What part isn't working?
Do the games appear?
I don't think usbloader is booting correctly or something, i'm gonna take pictures so you can see what i'm talkin' about
Thank you for the help by the way
I appreciate it, honestly.
Make sure you're using this USB port:
removable drive e is my sd card with all the homebrew stuff on it
the other one is where the games are at
And when i run usb loader GX it just takes me to this screen and i don't see any of the games on the list, i also don't see snes9x GX anywhere at all
.rvz files are not supported by Wii hardware
First make sure your USB drive is formatted correctly
it has to be a WAD or something right?
The drive should be 2tb or smaller, formatted to MBR and have a single primary FAT32 partition with 32kb (32768) or 64kb (65536) cluster/allocation unit size.
Double check the partition style is MBR: https://www.howtogeek.com/245610/how-to-check-if-a-disk-uses-gpt-or-mbr-and-how-to-convert-between-the-two/
Drive is 64gb or less: Format it to FAT32 with 32kb (32,768 bytes) cluster / allocation unit size.
Drive is larger than 64gb: Format it to FAT32 with 64kb (65,536 bytes) cluster / allocation unit size.
If the drive is larger than 32GB, you will need third party software like GUIFormat or Wii Backup Manager to format your drive to FAT32
Wii Backup Manager: https://wii.guide/wiibackupmanager
GUIFormat: http://ridgecrop.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm
No
ehh
dont think they need to redownload
use dolphin to convert to iso
also i might be missing context i just came home
Yeah they could totally convert the rvz to iso then use the iso with Wii Backup Manager
Okay, i've formatted the flash drive in the way you specified, i'm copying the games and stuff back over there
Just remembered you said i needed to convert the wii games
fuck
How do i do that through dolphin?
add the directory with the rvz to the game paths in config > paths
right click the game when it shows up and select convert file
if you want smaller file size yes
weird, this is a 15 gb flash drive but i can't put a 4 gb game on it
after i did the reformatting thing
OKAY THOUGH
Whatever, i got a wii game on it, it's in the iso format
it's formatted correctly
This should work now right?
FAT32 has a max file size limitation of 4gb.
But like I described above this issue is easily solved. Transfer the game to your drive using Wii Backup Manager. It will convert the ISO to WBFS shrinking the size of the file and also split the file if necessary to make it fit within the 4gb file size limitation.
Yep, i'm doing that
I'm about done transferring everything i want over
So
I'm still trying to run these with usb loader right?
Yeah
hope it works. It's normally recommended to avoid flash drives as they often cause issues with the Wii
Nice
I'm so pleased, thanks guys
Technically i still wanna figure out how to get snes9x gx workin' and how to install janky wii ware stuff
but i'm done for the night lol
For the SNES emulator:
https://oscwii.org/library/app/Snes9xRX
You can get it and many other homebrew apps from the Open Shop Channel.
Thank you, thank you
I got my wiiware stuff i wanted workin'
I've gotta do the snes9xrx
Okay, now i've done all that. Is there a way to play gamecube iso's also?
Also how do playing those work, do we need a gamecube controller?
To play GameCube games you will need to have Nintendont in your apps folder.
Download the .zip from here:
https://oscwii.org/library/app/Nintendont
Extract Nintendont.zip then copy its contents (apps and controllers folders) to the root of the same drive you keep your homebrew apps on.
With Nintendont installed, USB Loader GX or WiiFlow can now load GameCube games.
https://wii.guide/usbloadergx
https://wii.guide/wiiflow
You can only play GameCube games from a SD or USB drive formatted to MBR FAT32 with 32kb or 64kb allocation unit size. You can use 64kb allocation unit size when formatting if the drive is larger than 64gb.
Dump your GameCube game using CleanRip:
https://wii.guide/dump-games
GameCube games can be played on the Wii in NKit.iso or ISO (not NKit.gcz). NKit.iso takes up much less space and plays just the same so I recommend that. You can use the Nkit PC program to convert an ISO to Nkit.iso
Get Nkit by clicking Download button on this page:
https://gbatemp.net/download/nkit.36157/
Extract it to a convenient place on your PC.
You can then use GameCube Backup Manager to transfer the game to your drive. It can create the necessary folder structure and rename the files for you:
https://github.com/AxionDrak/GameCube-Backup-Manager
Otherwise do it by hand:
💾SD/USB:
┗ 📂games
┣ 📂GameName [gameID]
┃ ┗ 📜game.iso --note: this is LITERALLY game.iso, not the name of the game, or the game id, just game
┗ 📂GameName [gameID] --This example is for multi disc games
┣ 📜game.iso
┗ 📜disc2.iso
Note: the WBFS folder is for WII GAMES ONLY and the Games folder is for GAMECUBE GAMES ONLY
nkit.iso files should still be named literally game.iso
Nintendont supports GameCube controllers, classic controllers, wiimote+nunchuk(my least favorite way to play),and a variety of USB controllers.
This thread has a lot of good information about controllers:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/nintendont.349258/
Alrighty, i'll get goin' on that when i get back to work.
Thank you
Also, I was getting the open shop channel or whatever it's called
and i threw it on my sd card and popped it in there and it kept shooting me some error
something something failed to read -6
i think it's because i don't have it hooked up to the wifi
because i'm afraid to do that cause i don't want it to break everything
what'd you expect
It's fine to be connected to WiFi. Just don't update when it asks.
Okay, thanks
Okay, i've got allllllllllllll that stuff
i have a new question, under usb loader gx in the sound settings apparently i can set a different song to be played when i'm browsing my game collection
What format does the song have to be in for the thingy to see it?
Additionally, i got the open shop channel thing working and the wii connected to the internet, at which point i downloaded the gamecube game thing
Can i just put those on the HDD or do i have to use wii backup manager to like, load them in that way?
Also for gamecube games, does the file type matter?
Also, anything else cool i should get on here lol
I'm sorry, one more
I saw a bunch of link cable emulator stuff, and a gameboy link cable server thing too
try mp3. idk
If i had friends that also had modded wiis would that let us play OG crystal chronicles wirelessly from our own homes

Soooo, i don't have to use wii backup manager?
I can just put them in there like that and it'll work?
yeah you can do it manually. it's just usually easier to use WBM
I will do that then
