Hello Art Fighters! Just a reminder that our volunteer applications are still open! We currently have positions for Site & Chat Mods, as well as Support Team Members.

Requirements:

• You must be at least 18 years old to apply
• You must have participated in one Art Fight Event (does not include minigames)
• Prior experience moderating is not required, but is definitely welcomed
• Activity onsite and on the Discord is a plus!

What is the Support Team?

• Different from Moderators, Support Team members are helpful members of Art Fight who primarily help answer questions in #af-help-archive, #af-ratings, and #minigames-help. They also pass on any issues that need to be brought to moderators attention.
• This means Support Team members don't moderate, but still play an important role -- working with moderators & helping take some of the load off them!
• We typically look for users who know a lot about Art Fight and have willingness to help out.

Oh my oh my, this is quite the conundrum!! It seems my secret basket of ART FIGHT SPECIFIC FROGS have escaped and caused havoc!! This wasn’t supposed to happen… It seems they’ve gotten their little fingers all over the server and changed a few things. While staff tries to fix these unexpected happenings on a very expected day, please keep a look out for loose frogs!

Last I checked, I had SEVEN frogs in my basket and they ran off to the site (where they’ve revealed that pesky annual Red Delete Button, which you should not press!!). If someone could find my SEVEN frogs, I would be most thankful and I’ll make sure they never get out again!!

My frogs haven’t come back yet, and it’s such a shame!! I did find one clue though — this mysterious Base that you may be able to use to create your own frog avatar…? Is this assimilation into a frog army? (Did you know a group of frogs is called an army?)

After a long day of hunting, from you guys and myself, it seems as if my frogs have come back to me. Staff has started cleaning up any traces of my pesky little frogs, but I wanted to thank everyone for their diligent efforts in finding all SEVEN of my frogs!

Actually, now that I recount them in my basket, it seems there’s only SIX. I must have miscounted… Oopsies! Hope no one spent too much time looking for the SEVENTH frog that never existed :)

Hello Art Fighters!

It’s me, Rainy 🌧️

I wanted to make an announcement (albeit somewhat belatedly) that I’ve made the difficult decision to step down from my role as Administrator.

I’ve been with Art Fight since the start; back when we only had around 500 active members. Watching the site grow each year was incredibly exciting, and even though adjusting to the growing user base posed its difficulties, I loved overcoming those challenges.

Seeing how many people look forward to Art Fight makes me so happy. There’s just something special about it. The fact that thousands of artists come together and collectively draw giftart for an entire month… that’s just so cool! Sometimes I’ll look at my old attacks to see how much my art has changed and improved, haha

As much as I love helping Art Fight, I have made the decision to say goodbye to my volunteer position in pursuit of other opportunities. Since my work is volunteer, and by extension completely unpaid, I just do not have enough time to continue helping out anymore, unfortunately. :(

Even though I won’t be working on Art Fight, you can bet I’ll still be participating, and hopefully will have more time to attack now! >:)

I feel like I could go on for a while, but I’ll end it here. I love and appreciate every second spent working on Art Fight. I wish all the best for the Art Fight team going forward

Hello fellow Art Fighters! As we approach July and Art Fight 2023, we have a few changes happening in the server to prepare for the big event!

The 2023 minigames season has officially ended and minigames have closed! We thank you all for such a wonderful minigame season! Please see the announcement in #minigames-announcements for further information and a feedback form.

The voice channels will now be closed for the duration of the fight so moderators can focus their attention on the server’s main channels.

After spending a long time considering options, we have made the decision to close the af-suggestions Discord channel. The channel has been here since the early days of this server, and it helped us engage with our users and take suggestions in a conversational way.

As both Art Fight and the server have grown exponentially over the years, it is no longer feasible to take suggestions in that kind of format. We are now unable to keep up with the sheer amount of suggestions, as well as communicate with each and every user about their input. We want to give our users the space to share ideas, but in a way that we can effectively listen and implement your suggestions.

We are still working on putting a new method in place, so please be patient with us, expect to see something before the end of the fight.

With all these changes comes our yearly spring cleaning of the past year’s team roles! Say goodbye to the leaves and shrooms as they'll be leaving soon.

Of course, remember that the reveal will be on <t:1687559400:F>! Keep an eye out for our prep-prompts to help you suit up your characters for the fight.

Sorry for the long wait- early bird team selection is finally open

For those unfamiliar, head on over to https://artfight.net/team/sort to find the team sorting page. From there, you can select a team for the 2023 fight (or let the site pick for you). You can change your team as much as you like prior to the start of the event.

Early bird team selection will be available up until the start of the event (<t:1688234400:f> in your timezone). After this, anyone just joining the fight will be sorted onto a random team first, but will still be able to select a team afterwards. There are a limited number of chances to switch your team (this is the same as previous years).

As a heads up, the site will likely be slow and possibly rate-limited due to the surge of traffic for team selection. If you're having trouble accessing the site, please wait a little and try again later as the traffic settles.

In addition to the early bird sign ups, the way content filters work on site has been updated! You now have more granular control over whether each category is Hidden, Censored or Always Shown. Users under the age of 18 also have some restrictions on which filters they can change.
These updates ended up being pretty complex and required an entire rewrite of the filter system on the back end. With that being said, if you encounter any unexpected behavior or bugs, you can let a moderator know in #af-help-archive and they will pass the message along to me! Also personal apologies for how long this one took to get out, I had tried to work on it earlier in the year but it ended up being a lot harder than expected which lead to the entire rewrite later.

With the update, every user's content filters have been defaulted to "Hide". You will need to update them to your own preferences on your settings page: https://artfight.net/user/settings

There will be a formal news post on site reiterating this information soon!

Art Fight 2023 starts in your timezone at: <t:1688234400:f>. As a reminder, drawing attacks prior to the start of the event is against Art Fight's rules and breaks the spirit of the game.

That being said, we're already seeing a ton of traffic and I imagine we'll get some kind of DDoS warning from cloudflare at the start of the fight when everyone's trying to open the site at once. I'm going to be working on optimizations throughout the week to hopefully help some of the speed issues, and I know I say it all the time but we very much appreciate your patience while we try to get things working

Important Part -> Because of all this, I will be putting the site in maintenance mode 5 minutes before the event starts to ensure the event gets going properly, then the site will be promptly reopened afterwards. Happy fighting!!!

Hey Artfighters,

I’m here to let you know that I'm stepping down as owner of Art Fight. This was a difficult decision, and it’s one that has taken me a lot of time and careful consideration to make, but I’m listening to your feedback, and I think it’s time.

I want to apologise for the confusion and lack of communication that has surrounded this decision. I know that many of you have been wondering what's been going on, and I wish I could have given you information and clarification in a more timely manner.

I've been working on Art Fight for the past 9 years, and it's been an amazing journey. I've seen the site grow from a small community of a few hundred users to what it is today. I want to thank each and every one of you for your support over the years. I've loved working on this project with you all, and I'm so grateful for everything. I love this community to bits.

I’d like to welcome @glacial oasis and @lilac loom back as admins. They will be in charge of things going forward, and I know that they will continue to build on the success of Art Fight. They will be here to answer your questions and make sure the transfer happens as smoothly as possible.

I'm so proud of what we built together. This has become a wonderful event that so many artists look forward to every year, and I’m so happy to have been here so long with all of you.

I want to thank you all again for your support. I wish you all the best in the future!

Art Fight has recently undergone some major changes in leadership and we would like to take some time to address them, as well as information about the event.

What happened?
-Takaia has stepped down, and has released a public statement. You can read her statement above.
-classicturtle and I are transitioning into being the co-owners of Art Fight, with a third co-owner being announced soon.

What about the event?
-Art Fight will not be shutting down. As of now, the event will still end on August 1st. If this time is to change, it will be announced accordingly.

Additionally, we want to take a moment to ask that everyone remains respectful to all staff members, former staff members, and users. Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated within the Discord or on the site.

As we move forward, we are dedicated to continuing to make Art Fight as successful as it can be and give it all it needs to grow. We are committed to being transparent and communicative with our users and staff alike concerning donations site expenditures. Thank you so much for your patience while we transition and work things out behind the scenes. There will be more details to come in the form of a newspost.

Beginning sometime this evening, the Art Fight server will be temporarily closing down. We'll be using this time to tidy up the server, cleaning up old and unused roles, channels, and more. This time will also be used to make some much-needed updates to the staff structure. 🫧 This means that you won't be able to see channels except this one for a short period of time.

We aren't completely sure when the server will be back up, but you will be notified when it is! We want to take the time to ensure our staff are settled.

Regarding the budget and leadership transition newspost, it is still in progress, and we hope to be able to update you all on things soon.

After some much-needed changes being made to the server, we are pleased to announce the server will open in approximately one hour, or <t:1696348800:F> your time.

Here are some changes you may begin to notice:

• Channel reorganization

• To better help with keeping track of channel permissions, as well as help keep things nice and organized, you may notice some channels have been shuffled around, as well as the presence of a new "Creative" category that contains all the art and character related channels.

• You may also notice that some channels may be missing; most notably, off-topic-2. We're hoping to reduce the number of channels that our moderators need to filter through, and in doing so, we have made the choice to retire that particular channel. You are now able to, however, send images in #off-topic(off-topic)!

• In addition to off-topic-2, characters-2 will also soon be hidden; this channel will become available again on-season. We are going to have the channel still be viewable for a week so you can go through and save anything as needed! Characters-2 will be hidden: <t:1696955400:f>

• Server Rule Updates

• In the coming weeks, updates will be made to our server rules. You will be notified about these in #changelog (changelog) when they happen!

• Bot Transitions

• The Art Fight server is currently working towards transitioning our bots away from our current ones. This process may take some time, so please forgive any hiccups while we work on switching over.

• Staff Changes

• We have been working behind the scenes to overhaul some of our internal structure. While we cannot disclose all of these changes, you may notice the absence of our support team. As of now, the support team has been dissolved in favor of bringing them aboard staff fully!

That should be a general summary of the Discord-specific changes we've undergone the past few days!

Hi everyone!

There's a phishing scam currently circulating around Discord. It involves a friend asking you to playtest their game. We're making an announcement to spread the word and help protect you! See the image below for a mockup of what it might look like. Thank you @uneven palm for being in the example!

**The scam usually plays out as follows: **

1. A friend, acquaintance, or even a random person will message you and start small-talk
2. They will eventually lead into that they are making a game, and want you to play it / playtest it
3. They will send you a link (blogspot.com is one of them) that you will download.
4. This contains a virus that will compromise your Discord account, and potentially put other information in danger.

**How do I protect myself? **

The best thing you can do is be careful with what you click and download. The scammer might try to mimic your typing style, or bring up old conversations to build trust with you. It can be incredibly believable.

Additional Scams
There are a few other scams that have been going around. Here's what to watch out for:

• Masked Links: Discord added more markdown support, including masked links (example). This masks the link into a word or sentence. Hover over the blue to see where it leads.
• QR Codes: Discord added the ability to log-in through a QR code, which bypasses 2-factor authentication. Some servers have been able to make fake “verification” bots that resemble well-known mod tools (like Wick) and ask you scan a QR code to verify yourself. NEVER scan a QR code you receive on Discord to “verify” yourself; no bot will ask you to scan anything.

• These scams can sometimes come with more elaborate social engineering, ex. accusing the recipient of being “exposed” on a server so you’ll miss the suspicious signs in a panic.

• Steam Account Scam: You might be approached by someone telling you that they accidentally reported your Steam account, and you have to contact Steam support to avoid getting suspended.
• Fake nitro links
• Server scams - see my past post about it here: #announcements message

Hey folks! As you may or may not be aware, Discord has a new client-side setting called "Clipping". This enables users to create clips of moments during streams in voice channels, including other participants' voices.

Having your voice recorded in clips is on by default. To opt out, you must turn off a setting in your account to prevent yourself from being recorded. If you'd like to turn this feature off/opt out of having yourself recorded, here are some instructions to do so:

Desktop

• Open your account settings, found at the bottom left near your username.
• Select "Clips" from the sidebar.
• Toggle "Allow my voice to be recorded in Clips" at the bottom to off.

Mobile

• Open your profile, and tap on the settings wheel at the top right.
• Select "Clips".
• Toggle "Allow my voice to be recorded in Clips" to off.

Countdown to Art Fight Begins...

Art Fight is officially 2 months away! Are you prepared for this year's event?

• Have you read through our rules and filter guidelines?
• Have you got a grasp on attack ratings?

Well, we can't blame you too much if those pesky references still need to be drawn.

Here's some reminders while we wait for Art Fight 2024:

• The theme reveal date has NOT been released yet, but will be announced in the next newspost. You can read April's newspost here for more information.
• Achievements for 2023, Vampires vs Werewolves, have not been released. You'll get them shortly before this year's event begins.
• Art Fight officially starts on July 1st, 2024 at 12:00 PM Mountain Time. It is against the spirit to make attacks before the event starts, as it is seen as having an unfair advantage.

We can't wait to see everyone this year!

Hey everyone! We've noticed an uptick in scams and hacked accounts. As such, we wanted to make an announcement reminding everyone to be wary of any suspicious messages you receive - even if from a friend or someone you've spoken with before.

Here is a quick rundown of some common scams/hacks we've seen:

• QR Codes: These are when a server or user asks you to 'verify' by scanning a QR code with your Discord mobile app. Doing this will bypass the need for a password and 2FA.

• These may often be paired with a message saying that you're being accused of something serious in a server in the hopes that you'll act out of panic and miss anything suspicious.

• False Reports: These are when you receive a DM from another user, either a friend or someone you share a server with, claiming that they've reported/mass-reported your account for suspicious activity/hacking/scamming/etc., and that they've received a reply to their report stating that your account is scheduled to be banned, unless you contact another named user, often pretending to be a support agent or administrator.

• Fake Nitro: Often sent en-masse to a server and spammed throughout several channels with an @ everyone ping. Will often have you log into a website that appears similar to Discord.

• Crypto: Generally involve someone offering to help someone create a cryptocurrency, or will advertise a 'drop'/giveaway of a new or existing NFT/cryptocurrency.

Additionally, we've made a page to discuss scams/hacks in further detail, including tips for avoiding scams and hacks, what to do if you've been scammed or hacked, and a more detailed list of the most common hacks/scams we've seen in the server (including censored example screenshots). It is not by any means a comprehensive list, and you should do further research on current scams/hacks and how to protect or resecure your accounts.

When in doubt, don't hesitate to reach out to a moderator if you're suspicious about a message you've received!

Hi all! We have decided to test a report feature that will report users or messages to staff directly without the need for a ping or DM. We hope this provides comfort by removing any anxieties about coming face-to-face with a moderator privately.

Note that you do not have to use this system if you do not want to! You can continue to report to Chat Moderators directly if you prefer.

IMPORTANT: Urgent matters that need immediate attention or require a discussion with staff are better suited for a moderator ping or DM. Emergency / urgent matters include but are not limited to: trolls, scams or hacked accounts, or arguments in chat. In addition, because the user report system does not allow staff-to-user communication beyond set bot messages, anything that you feel would need discussion with staff, such as complex situations or help with filters / ratings, shouldn’t be sent via the bot. Use your best discretion and judgment!

You can find a more in-depth tutorial of the report feature in the User Report Guide, however we will also briefly explain it here:

• Find any channel that you have typing perms in and type "/report"(without the quotations). Other users will not see that you are typing, nor will they see that you have sent the command.
• You will then be able to input either a User ID or a Message link (Check the guide for a more in-depth explanation on how to enable Developer Mode and grab User IDs)
• Select a reason for the user report from the predetermined list:
  a. Unfiltered Content: any content that needs to be filtered on-site according to our Maturity Guide.
  b. Harassment: covers bullying, threats, and other targeted behavior.
  c. Uncomfortable Commentary: comments that aren’t necessarily harassment but is uncomfortable (ex. inappropriate jokes).
  d. Spam: repeated messages, emoji spam, or content otherwise cluttering the channels.
  e. Minigames: used as a catch-all for all Minigames behavior reports, standards violations, etc.
  f. Other: for reports that do not fit the other categories.
• Add any information that you think would be beneficial, though try to keep it clear and as to-the-point as possible.
• Hit enter to submit your report! If you have received an error, you will get a message telling you what went wrong. If your report was successfully submitted, you’ll get a confirmation message only you can see. You will receive a DM when your report has been accepted or denied. Note that we do not disclose why reports have been accepted / denied.

Hey Art Fighters! We have updated channels for this year's on-season to better reflect changes and for ease of moderation. The following has been updated:

The help channels will remain closed for the duration of this event.

This year our Discord has doubled in size, from roughly 123,000 to 218,000 in the past month alone. As such, the help channels are no longer an effective way for us to provide support. We found oftentimes the help channels would become very backed up and we don't feel we were able to provide support to the degree we wanted to.

• We are investigating new possibilities for help channels going forward, but for the time being, we do not plan on reopening the help channels.

• Whilst we have 'extreme nudity' and 'suggestive themes' filters on-site to apply to this type of content, we'd like to remind you all that any content that falls under either of these filters is not allowed in-server whatsoever, even if filtered.
• This also applies to our minigames, art-trades and advertisement channels: we do not allow the advertisement, request or offer of any form of suggestive or explicit NSFW content.
• Purposefully attempting to evade our chat filters in order to say banned words and terms goes against our rules! Attempts at bypassing our filters may result in your removal from our in-server channels.

Hello Art Fighters! We’ve had a ton of people reach out about Discord partnering with DomoAI to add generative AI capabilities to Discord. Thank you to those who brought this to our attention, we would like to assure you Art Fight has done everything we can to minimize the risk of these apps reaching our artists.

The server has both activities and external apps disabled with no plans to grant users either permission. DomoAI or any similar counterpart are also not added as a server app and never will be. Here is a quick FAQ to help with questions. **The security issue has since been patched, comments on the last and current newspost are fine to view now. **This issue concerns those who viewed the last newspost from May 24th, 2025 3:00 am MST to May 24th, 2025 10:00 am MST. We estimate that less than 100 people to be affected by this exploit, and currently know of only less than 10 confirmed cases, and are working with these users to help recover their accounts, and several have already been recovered.

How did this happen?
Our BBCode system had a vulnerability flaw in it that was temporarily exploited to attempt to gain user credentials, but it has since been patched.

What do we do?
If you believe you may have been affected, please change your password to something unique and secure. 2FA has also now been added, and we recommend setting that up for your profile either way! We also recommend keeping an eye out on your other accounts, and to change the passwords on them if they shared any credentials as your Art Fight account (so same email or same password). More information on this is in the latest news post.

How do we know if you were affected by this exploit?
If you accessed the comments of the most recent news post (Terms of Service Updates) on May 24th, 2025, there is a chance your browser was exposed to the XSS script, and we recommend resetting your password ASAP to be safe.

What are you doing to prevent this from happening again?
Our hard-working dev team has already patched this exploit, as well as added additional security measures to help prevent this from happening again in the future, including adding the ability to enable 2FA to your account--which we recommend adding for extra security. We will also be proactively doing a security review to help locate any other security concerns.

I'm nervous about going onto the site at all now! What if my account gets hacked/stolen/etc?
Art Fight's dev team has patched the vulnerability that this incident has revealed, and has added additional security to catch/stop malicious scripts before they can affect the userbase. All instances of the previous malicious script have been removed from the website, meaning that it is once again safe to view the last news post! We are working hard to continue to keep users safe, so you don't need to worry about accessing anything on the site. If you come across anything potentially concerning, please don't hesitate to forward it to a moderator - we're happy to look into it!

What information might've been taken from me?
The XSS attack attempted to collect autofilled Art Fight log in information--emails and passwords--from users. No other information (like birthdays) should have been collected through this script. If you use the same email/password combo, or same password anywhere else, we recommend changing it to ensure your accounts stay secure.

I've seen multiple concerns regarding why 2FA was not added sooner, and I wanted to address this here. The newspost will also be edited with this information.

I sincerely apologizing for the delays in releasing these necessary security features. We understand that users placed their trust in us to protect their information and security, and ultimately we let them down. It is not wrong to feel frustrated that 2FA was not implemented until after an incident, I also agree that 2FA should have been implemented sooner. However, due to an extremely large server bill during the last event, and the ownership transition still being in progress, we were unable to hire a developer until recently.

This information was planned to be included in our 2024 Budget & 2025 Roadmap newspost - slated to be released sometime this week (prior to discovering the exploit). The first feature to be implemented was 2FA, with a planned release being sometime mid-june.

Once again, I think it is fair to feel frustrated. As the new owner, I am trying my best to slowly fix the many mistakes that were made in the past, and I might make some new ones in the process. However, I remain committed to Art Fight and ask for your trust as we begin to finally reach the end of the ownership transition. I would also like to ask that you wait for the 2024 Budget & 2025 Roadmap newspost to come out, as this will go over what was mentioned above in greater detail, plus more.

User Report Reminder

Last year, we introduced an official User Report feature here in the server that allows all members of our community to report users or messages to our staff without a ping or DM.

With our busy season approaching, we’d like to remind you of this feature and encourage you to use it if you notice anything you think needs staff attention.

IMPORTANT: Urgent matters should be reported directly to a moderator due to the nature of the system. This system also does not allow for staff-to-user communication, so issues requiring discussion should be reported directly to a moderator. Questions should not be sent with this system. In emergencies only, you are permitted and encouraged to ping the Moderator role to alert all active server staff.

You can view a full overview of the feature in the User Report Guide.

1. Type /report in any channel you have typing permissions in. Other users will not be able to see you typing or be notified when you send the command.
2. Input either a user ID or a message link (see the guide linked above for a tutorial on user IDs).
3. Choose a reason from the pre-defined list (Unfiltered Content, Harassment, Uncomfortable Commentary, Spam, Minigames, Other).
4. Add any relevant information, but please try to be succinct. If your reasoning is unclear or discussion is needed, a member of staff may reach out to you for further details.
5. Send the message. Again, other users will not be notified you have used the command. You will receive a confirmation message letting you know we have received the report.
   Please note that we do not disclose our reasoning for accepting or denying reports. You will be notified by DM when we have taken action on your report.

2025 After-Event Update & Temporary Development Period

Below is a summary of the upcoming changes:

What's changing this year:

• Temporary read-only mode for the site — From September 1st to November 1st, we’ll begin a focused development period. In order to give our full focus to development & work on resolving our report backlog, the site will be toggled to read-only. This means:

• Users will not be able to edit profiles, submit new characters, reports, comments, or upload images.
• Browsing, viewing, bookmarking, & downloading will remain fully functional.
• A summary of staff work & site rule updates will be posted during or after this period.

• Temporary read-only mode for our Discord server

• From September 1st to October 1st, users will not be able to post any further messages in the server. This will give chat moderators time to review the Discord as well as assist site moderators in updating rules, attack rating guides, and filtering guides.

Why this break is necessary

• Our team is made entirely of mostly unpaid volunteers. Burnout & the increasing volume of reports have made it difficult to sustain moderation at the current pace, despite our best efforts. This break will allow us to reset, refocus on backlog, & improve our internal tools.
• Development focus areas — During this period, we’ll work on streamlining the reporting system, improving moderation tools, & clarifying site rules to prevent confusion going forward.

As a reminder, the website is still set to return on November 1st. Our site moderation team is already hard at work with development talks and are currently discussing our filter system. We'll keep you posted!

What's New?

• Added clearer guidelines to our rules about conduct towards Moderators and clarified certain rules to more strongly align with Art Fight's zero-tolerance AI policy; formally disallowed the exchange of currency/goods/services for invite-only codes, such as Toyhou.se and Vgen.
• Strengthened some of our auto-moderation measures, including...
  • Disruptive markdown is now properly blocked server-wide (*with some exceptions).
  • Added protections against cross-posting in the arts channels.
  • New server members are now subject to automatic screening against suspicious criteria and may be held from verification for moderator review.
• Clarified several internal moderation procedures amongst our team with the goal of increasing user understanding of our report and escalation systems. We recommend taking a moment to thoroughly re-read our server rules, as some of these changes have made our escalation practices less lenient.
• Re-released the #info, #faq, and #af-bugs channels with new and updated content.
• Introduced the #contact-a-mod channel to provide clearer guidelines about when to contact our staff team, which also includes a permanent and detailed guide for this server's User Report system.
• Added several new Contributor channels, with a focus on uniting all of our Contributors with new joint channels.
• A bunch of new Minigames updates, including updates to game rules, standards, and new public guides. You can view all of these in #minigames-changelog!
• Archived and/or retired some channels.

Regarding Moderator Applications

Our current goal is to have Moderator applications released in the next month or two. Issues with the current internal platforms we use for our applications have been slowing us down throughout the hiring process for the past year, so we are looking to migrate to a new platform before accepting new applications.

Part of this development period has been spent strengthening our training process and internal guides, so we are confident that once this transition is complete, we'll be able to begin seamlessly considering new members of the team. Hello Art Fighters! Today, we wanted to provide an update on internal staff discussions regarding site development, and what we plan on discussing next.

Filter System

Our principal focus has been revamping our filter system. As you may know, our filtering system remains largely untouched since Art Fight first launched, and was not originally designed for a site with the size user base that we have now. Due to this, we recognize it's time for some major changes. We hope that by revamping this key system, we can reduce moderation strain and cut down on the time it takes to close reports, as well as remove redundant and bloated or difficult to define filtering categories.

In order to do this, we will be implementing the ability to tag images and attacks, similar to the way users can add tags to their characters. With this change also comes the addition of a new tag blacklisting feature. This feature will allow users to hide images with particular tags, such as images tagged with “insect” or “tropophobia.” We believe this will enable users to better curate their Art Fight experience.

This feature is currently in development, alongside changes to what we require to be filtered. Keep an eye out for future updates and more information on how moderation will work!

Future Plans

As we move into October, we will continue refining our filtering and tagging system. In addition, a heavy emphasis will be placed on how we can improve the reporting experience and create a plan of action to address the report backlog.

In terms of site development, modmail and character CSS are in the final testing phase and we expect to release them soon! Keep an eye out for the end of the year, where we’ll provide a feature timeline.

Hiring

We have begun to switch our internal application tracking system, and it is going well! We anticipate that the application form will go live once the site goes out of read only mode. We'll put an announcement here and on our social media pages when it is ready!

Art Fight December Update

Budget and 2026 Tiers Newspost

• Work is underway! We expect the newspost to release mid-January. If delays occur, we will be sure to communicate that as soon as possible.

Site Development Update:

• The focus has been on internal staff moderation features so that site moderators can sort through reports easier.
• As a team, we're working on redefining internal roles as well as updating our moderation protocols to best fit our newly implemented backend tools.
• We're hoping to start development on the updated filtering and tagging system in the new year. There will be a survey to gather feedback before anything is formally changed!

Misc. Additions & Updates

• Reorder Character Images: Users can now rearrange character images by editing a character and navigating to its Images tab.
• Editing & Closing Reports: Users can now edit the contents of a report, as well as close it themselves if it no longer needs action. We hope this feature will be useful to older reports that may contain broken links or have been resolved.
• Modmail Improvements: We have implemented several updates and bug fixes to our modmail system following its release. We will continue to monitor the performance of this feature and make any necessary changes.

Accessibility

• Our team is committed to making Art Fight more accessible for everyone, and it is something we are placing special emphasis on as we enter the new year. Our first step is to hear from you! Future Updates

• HTML Update: We are currently in the final testing phase of our transition to HTML from BBCode. We estimate that the transition will take place sometime in May, and it will require a maintenance period – this will be scheduled beforehand.
  • All existing BBCode will be converted into HTML, so you shouldn’t notice anything different once this feature releases. The only exception is that the [spoiler] tag will appear and function differently, as it is receiving some QOL updates.
• Filter Update: Work on the filter tags update will now resume, with a hopeful release date before the fight. However, if we experience snags during development, we may decide to wait until after the fight to complete it, since we want users to have ample time to get used to the changes.
• Rule Rework: Following feedback on our accessibility form, we are currently working on revamping our rules for improved readability alongside some actual changes to the rules.
  Additionally, there will be a few smaller QoL updates released before the fight.

Like we shared in #site-status, I wanted to remind you all that starting at Today, <t:1778292000:f>, **Art Fight will be down for extended maintenance as our developers deploy the new HTML editor. **Since this deployment requires all existing BBCode to be duplicated and converted to HTML, we estimate that maintenance could last around 80 hours (ending <t:1778580000:f>), but we may extend or end early if necessary. This will mean that Art Fight will be completely down until we're sure the HTML update has succeeded without problem.

**All existing BBCode will be preserved as-is in case of emergency, so don't worry about losing anything! **Thanks for your understanding and support. This is one of Art Fight's biggest releases (backend and coding-wise), so we are very excited to release this update

Once the site is back up, we plan to post a newspost to show our newly updated Rules page, as well as information about the proposed new filtering system, followed by a feedback form for it.

HTML Update

We have successfully migrated from BBCode to a new HTML-based editor. We appreciate your patience during the maintenance period—this was one of Art Fight’s biggest updates to date in terms of sheer man-hours!

On the surface, this change will not affect most users’ Art Fight experiences. However, HTML is much more versatile than our old system, BBCode, and can be utilized in intuitive and modern ways to customize all text-based elements on the site. It has been a much-needed change. In light of HTML, staff are actively working on re-writing many pages with improved readability in mind!

Tag System Update

We have written a proposal for the new tag system we are hoping to implement. Please take a moment to read it via the newspost, and let us know what you think via this feedback form!

Rules Update

As Art Fight has grown and evolved, our rules have also changed to fit the needs of our staff and user base. Over time, this led to our Rules page becoming long, text-heavy, and overall difficult to read. Additionally, many rules were vague, leading to staff interpretations that were not immediately evident to users.

In order to make our Rules more accessible and transparent to users, we have overhauled them and their formatting. These changes include reorganizing the rules to flow better, rewording rules for clarity, altering the way rules are numbered, and adding new rules when necessary. Even though the page now looks very different, the majority of our rulings are the exact same and will continue to be enforced the same way they were before.

I know it was all in fun, but here's why it's not a good idea: we rely on pings so we know when we're needed and when someone needs help. If we're constantly being joke-pinged, we might start ignoring pings because we think they're all jokes and/or the ones where people actually need help get buried in the mess and we can't find them. It is important to preserve the use of pings to staff so that you don't lose the ability to contact us when you need it, so from now on no more joke-pings to staff, please! • Community Guidelines added and includes a set of guidelines explaining what behavior and content is acceptable on Discord.
  Some things that are included in the Community Guidelines are...
  - Do not share images of gore and/or animal cruelty.
  - Do not share illustrated pornography which depicts minors.
  - Do not share content that violates another intellectual property or other rights.
  - Do not share anything that promotes self-harm or suicide.

As of today, everyone will be granted 1 free username change on the Art Fight site. This is being put in place to reduce the amount of multi-accounting and helps out everyone who was thinking about wanting to change your username. Be careful as you only have ONE chance to change it. The limit is in place to prevent us from hopefully getting flooded with requests because this has to be done manually by staff. If you would like additional name changes after your first, it will be a donation perk. (Please note that the donation perks page is from last year and is not up to date yet.)

IMPORTANT: when you get a name change, you agree that you are giving up your old username and anybody in the future that signs up can take that username.

Also, note that we can adjust your username for minor changes (capitalization, number removal, etc) for free!

Hey, guys! I'm coming with some great news!
As of right now, the site is working fine and as it should, and we're fairly certain that it should stay as such from now on. Short modding announcement: it has come to my attention that some offence was caused because mods may have been unfairly moderating the word autistic. It was never our intention to offend anyone, and we do believe that autistic is not a slur or a bad word itself. We only removed posts with the word if we percieved that the word was being used for ill intent. We may have made some mistakes in the past about our interpretations of the intent behind some posts, so we sincerely apologize for this, and for causing any offence in the community. Autism is not a bad thing, and autistic people are always welcome in Art Fight! We still intend to moderate use of the word should you attempt to use it with the purpose of insulting, hurting, offending, etc. anyone on or off the server, but we will be more careful from now on to make sure that, when we take action, the intensions behind the word's use are considered more thoroughly.

• #staff-botspam is replacing #minigame-marking, and will now be in the AF-CHANNELS category. For now, only the prompt ping command will work in there, but in the future it will be a spot for any bot commands that players can use.
• all the prompts channels that you are able to post in will be combined into one channel called #prompts. This means you can post your finished prompt pieces, WIPS, and discuss the prompt all in one channel.
• Each current prompt will be displayed in both #399301312967081987 and #prompts. As the prompt expires, the post in #399301312967081987 will be deleted to make room for the new prompt, but the copy of the post in #prompts will remain as a record of past prompts, for whatever reasons people might want to have a record of it.

In order to keep minigames running smoothly with the addition of the Verified role, we have now assigned the Minigamer role!
-When you join the server and make an introduction, you will be assigned the Verified AND the Minigamer role.
-This role allows you to chat in all of the minigame channels!
-If you have the DTBAN role, obtained by not completing any claims in the DTPAY minigame, you will lose the Minigamer role. In order to access the minigame channels again, you can appeal your DTBAN by sending a mod a DM with your finished claims. You will then be given back the Minigamer role.

Due to the system of roles on Discord, this is the only way we can effectively use roles to reduce the possibilities of raids and make sure people are fairly doing their part in the minigames.

Hello everyone! We've decided to implement a change to cooldowns for #featured-character based on user feedback. From now on, first time winners will not be able to re-enter their own characters for a week after winning. A user's second win will come with a two-week cooldown. After months, almost a year of not realizing our mistakes, we've JUST noticed that both Sun and Moon roles (the art fight 2017 teams) were spelled INCORRECTLY!... So we're embarassingly going to change them to their correct names, Sun being "uwu". and Moon being "owo". Not only that...But we realized there's a typo in the "Verified" role. It's actually supposed to be "junior meme :3".

In addition, we also realized that not only were team colors off, so was the moderator color. We've also fixed that.

So I know some of you don't like your past attacks, and I completely forgot that there was a simple and obvious "fix" to that - editing your thumbnail to something different! So if you no longer like a certain attack, for now (until we support hiding your attacks), you can edit the thumbnail of the attack so the preview no longer shows the attack. SERVER UPGRADE 2018, NUMBER 2

Turns out you all are slowin' the site down again already . Another upgrade is imminent, planned for 10PM AF (Mountain US) time. This should hold us over for a lot longer than a day this time.

Just as before:

• the site will go into maintenance mode and then be down for a bit. Our server host estimates it'll take 20 minutes, but who knows if that's accurate. (and some additional time is needed for a couple other maintenance things.)
• Your content is safe, and the site will return exactly as it was, except faster
• Just in case, we're making a backup of the entire site just before the upgrade takes place

2017 ACHIEVEMENTS ARE FINISHED!!

We ended up having to do it by hand again after all the waiting . Because of this, we were bound to make mistakes, unfortunately. If you don't have an achievement you qualify for, check the following requirements and make absolutely sure you actually qualify for the achievement:

• to get the Winner and Team Moon achievements, you must have made at least one attack for team moon and currently still be marked as team moon (light blue username)
• to get the Team Sun achievement, you must have made at least one attack for team sun and currently still be marked as team sun (yellow/orange username)
• to get any achievements for number of attacks, your current total number of attacks must be that number or greater. The available number of attacks achievements are:
  • 1 attack
  • 10 attacks
  • 35 attacks
  • 75 attacks
  • 100 attacks
  • 150 attacks
  • 250 attacks

To check what achievements you have, go to this url and replace [USERNAME] with your username: https://artfight.net/~[USERNAME]/stats . Hover over each picture for a description of what the achievement is for if you need to.

If you still think you're missing achievements you qualify for, please report yourself from your profile page. We will be checking to make sure you earned them!

This is just a quick announcement to say that we are extending Art Fight 7 days to make up for the site being down for the first days. We're sorry about that again!
To clarify, Art Fight will be ending on August 8th, 5:00PM US Mountain (AF time) / 7:00PM US Eastern. The front page has been updated to reflect that.

Some other things to note:

• Don't worry about not getting achivements. We'll definitely make sure you have them in the end.
• There's no promise about the search coming back, as it was contributing to the slowness of the site, but for now you can find characters by browsing https://artfight.net/team/characters/7.coffee & https://artfight.net/team/characters/8.tea . You can also ask others in the Discord for characters to draw. We hope you understand!

Since there's been increased activity in the voice chats, we wanted to announce that the voice chats will be closing for the event. The voice chats will likely close the same time as the Minigames end (June 15th). This decision was made after AF2018 due to constant rule-breaking that went on there, and the strain that was put on moderators. VIP voice-chats will remain up, however!

We added a question in the 2018 feedback form about them, and 73% did not use them, 17% said they were not important to them, and 9.1% said they were important. We're sorry if this is an inconvenience for you, and you're free to make your own servers or groups to voice chat in. I have some some quick announcements regarding the Discord server for this month:

• First thing first.. Yes, Art Fight is starting on July 1st!

• As of June 15th, the minigames on the Art Fight Discord will be closing down since Art Fight is starting up again. Like last year, you will still be able to edit your finished claims, so don’t worry about rushing to finish. Users will continue to receive the timeout role if they do not complete their claims within two weeks.

• Discord voice-chats will also be closing on June 15th. This will be for the duration of Art Fight due to constant rule-breaking and strain on moderators. The voice-chats will open some time after the fight is over, but not immediately after. VIP voice-chats will remain up during the event, however. We made an announcement about this a few months ago!

• Advertising commissions/adoptables/etc will also be disallowed starting June 15th.

• We will also be removing the Tea and Coffee team roles to prepare for the new roles, as well as some role color changes. You’ll notice a new icon in celebration of Pride Month, also!

In preparation for the annual Art Fight main event, as of now minigames are officially closed. Here's what you need to know:

• The last person in #draw-the-person-above-you is being claimed by @dusty impkid. Buzz won't get anything in return until minigames reopens after AF. While the channel will remain opened so users can edit their claims, please refrain from posting in there.
• Featured character had their final draw, and this character is the last character - and FC will return with a new character when minigames opens back up
• The #fight-prep last post will be made sometime today and will remain up until Art Fight starts.
• We currently don’t have an official return date for minigames, but we will announce it when we do know. Please be patient and do not ask when.

Hello minigamers!
Featured Character will be taking a temporary break from Dec. 26 - Jan. 2. Here's what will happen:

-On Thursday, December 24th 2PM EST the final 2020 featured character will be pulled on stream! This will be similar to usual Saturday streams where a new character will be pulled. You will have the following 48 hours after to work on and submit your entries.

-On **Saturday, December 26th 2PM EST ** the FC channel will close for entries/chatting and will remain read-only until reopening. All entries will be held for a new winner pull upon reopening.

-On Saturday, January 2nd 2PM EST The first FC of 2021 will be chosen on stream!. The winner will be chosen from the entries that were submitted before the closure on December 24th. The FC channel will also reopen for chatter and entries to be edited if need be once the stream begins, however no new entries will be counted! until the first 2021 winner is pulled.

Hello <@&414108664433999872>s! The time has come where minigames are going to come to an end in order to prepare for Art Fight as it rapidly approaches!
Minigames will be closing in one week onTuesday, June 15th at noon MST (Art Fight time).

Why are minigames closing?!

To prepare for Art Fight! This gives staff a chance to put our full focus into preparing for the main event (As well as you guys!). Minigames will reopen once again a bit after Art Fight has ended!

What this means for each channel:
🛄 #draw-the-person-above-you , #draw-the-interaction-above-you , #design-for-the-person-above, and #discontinued-finish-taay will be "closed". A mod will make a final claim and will ask that nobody claims them further. Technically, the chats will still be able to be typed in so you can edit any claims still (Though please do not make any new claims!). They will remain this way until minigames reopen.

The final #featured-character will be pulled Saturday, June 12th at its usual time. This will be the final winner- all "entries" made for this character will be made out of the kindness of your heart, as there will not be any further raffles after for this off-season. Along with that, the final featured character will remain open for "entries" up until the minigame closure on Tuesday.

✏️ #prompts will remain open until Art Fight opens. You may still chat in there and post your prep-prompts for your achievement.

☎️ #guess-adopts will close completely and there will be no more #sign-up-games.

🎲 #minigames-general, #minigames-help, and #timeout-help will all remain open for the duration of Art Fight. Timeouts will still be given after closure at each 2-week mark for unfinished/unmet standard claims or sign-up games.

Submitting NEW reports for Incorrect Ratings on Attacks will be halted in approximately 24 hours from now (August 5th 2021 at 5:00PM MDT). After that point, you will no longer be able to report attacks for incorrect ratings from Art Fight 2021.

This is being done in preparation for the winner reveal, which is set to occur on August 15th 2021. From now until then, Site Moderators will be working hard to go through reports and ensure that the final tally will be as accurate as possible. Halting new reports will ensure that this process is feasible to finish by the promised end date.

Please make sure that any Incorrect Ratings reports regarding Art Fight 2021 Attacks that you wish to file are submitted via our onsite Report button (found on the Attack's page) within the next 24 hours.

Art Fight Minigames will be reopening on October 1st 2021 at 11am Mountain Time (that's 1PM EST). This is approximately one week from now.

In the coming days, #761229129831022592 may briefly go down so that we can implement any changes and potential new game(s) that we have been working hard at behind the scenes! We will post another announcement once the changes are implemented so that you have a chance to revise or learn any rules before the reopening.

If you are someone who does not yet have the minigamer role but you want it please look over #761229129831022592 ! This channel contains all the information you need on how to obtain the role.

There are some important things we would like to note about minigames reopening this year:

Finish The Art Above You will not be returning this year.
After careful consideration of feedback and the channel's overall activity, we have made the decision to discontinue this game going forward for the time being. We hope that you can understand why this decision was made, and we sincerely apologize to those who were hoping to see it return.

Timeouts regarding this game have already been issued as needed, and we will continue to expect overdue claims for this game to be completed from those in timeout for it.
This channel will soon lock to new posts, as well as get archived eventually, so this is your warning to save anything you need to save from that channel asap.

Additionally, Featured Character will not start the same day as minigames reopening.

Hi everyone!

Recently, there have been cases of Discord accounts being hacked. Over time these hacking schemes have looked more legitimate, and so I'd appreciate if you could take a moment to read below, because this information could save your Discord account, as well as your personal information, from being compromised.

What should I look out for?

The most common message users have received is something along the lines of "do you want to try a game I've been working on?", followed by a link to a file. However, this could easily change to something different. It's best to just be wary in general of all DMs.

You might think it'd be easy to differentiate a bot vs a human, but unfortunately it looks like some of these DMs are coming from an actual person, which can make it more convincing.

Here are a few things to always keep in mind.

First and formost:

• Do not click on suspicious links, even from friends
• Do not DOWNLOAD suspicious files
• ALWAYS be wary of random DMs.
• Be cautious of strange DMs even from FRIENDS. Their account could have gotten hacked!

Please reach out to me or a moderator if you notice any suspicious messages from this server.

Hi everyone!

Just a quick update on the Discord front of things.

We are updating our introduction system. You will no longer need to post in #introductions in order to get access to MOST of the channels.

Instead, we have replaced the intro system with the Captcha bot. Upon joining the server, users will need to head to #615411561376382977 to complete a captcha. After doing so, they will receive the verified role!

However, this does not completely negate the use of #introductions. We still heavily encourage you to fill out an introductions, so people can find your artfight, see your pronouns, and know more about you!

Filling out an introduction will also come with its benefits...
Linking your Art Fight in the introduction will AUTOMATICALLY give you access to *#target-hunting, and *#minigame-marking. So as long as you link your Artfight, you will get in!

There may be more incentives to post an introduction at a later date. Stay tuned!

• If you posted an introduction before today, you won't have access to the Target Hunting channel just yet. We're looking into how to fix this, but to access it sooner, please just simply re-post your introduction to gain entry to Target Hunting. You can delete it after if you want!
• If you are already a minigamer, you already have access to Minigame Marking.

That's all for now! We're still getting used to our new bot, so please be patient as we work out potential issues. For the most part, though, everything should be running smooth.

Howdy everyone! Some interesting news today- it seems that the mysterious red button that we dealt with exactly one year ago is back :( Rest assured, the team is working tirelessly to delete fix the site. Expect a resolution by the end of the day! next morning I'm sleepy

Also, on a slightly embarrassing note… I had the site's code open on my computer and got up to get a snack, and when I returned my cat was at the keyboard I don't thiiink she did anything, but I'll make sure to implement some more cat-proof security measures in the future.

On top of all that, it seems that a good number of the staff have turned into rats??? Please don't let them chew on the servers.

Hi everyone!

Recently we were made aware of a new type of scam. This scam involves a user going to your direct messages and asking about your commissions. After talking more, they will try to persuade you to join their server in order to view their references.

This server will contain extremely graphic images posted intentionally to scare and hurt people. Do not join the server.

What should I look out for?

If you get any sort of DM (direct message), it's always best to be suspicious at first. Do a background check on the user, if they have no posts in your mutual server(s), it is most likely a scam or scandal to try to scare you. With this particular instance, the user seems to target artists by asking if their commissions are open. Additionally, they might even offer you extra money in order to join their server.

If you receive a suspicious DM, please reach out to me or a moderator.

Head on over to https://artfight.net/event to find the team sorting page. From there, you can select which team you want to be on for the 2022 fight, or even let the site pick for you. You can change your team as much as you like prior to the start of the event.

Early bird team selection will be available up until the start of the event on July 1st at 12PM MDT (18:00 UTC). After this, anyone just joining the fight will be sorted onto a random team first, and there will be a limited number of chances to switch your team (this is the same as last year.)

A heads up- the site will likely be slow and possibly rate-limited by Cloudflare with the sudden surge of traffic for team selection. If you see this error, please wait a little bit and try again later as traffic settles. Thank you for your understanding!

And one more important note- drawing attacks prior to the start of the event on July 1st at 12PM MDT (18:00 UTC) is against Art Fight's rules and breaks the spirit of the game, so please keep this in mind as we get closer to the event start.

There have been reports of suspicious messages coming from members of this server. Often the message will accuse you of something serious, with the intent of you joining a server. After joining the server, a bot will ask you to verify via the QR code feature. For those not familiar, Discord added an easier way to login to your account - using a QR code you scan from your phone.

Do NOT give out this QR code to anything but the official Discord login screen. Be wary about vague and accusatory messages. Please be cautious out there and report suspicious messages to any <@&205247659429068800>.

Hey everyone,

You may have noticed multiple pings a few hours ago. Unfortunately, the verified role somehow became mentionable by regular users, and some users took advantage of that. We then closed the affected channels to clean up messages and investigate.

At the moment, it's unclear whether or not a permission got changed, because the audit logs only go back a month. We do not suspect this was the cause, and our investigation produced no evidence of permissions being changed or settings being altered in any way. After discussing with official Discord staff, they have suspicions this was a bug on their end, though this has not yet been confirmed. We have submitted a bug report as requested by Discord and they are investigating.

Due to some rumors, we would also like to clarify that none of our accounts were compromised, and the server wasn't "hacked", so please don't worry in that regard!

We apologize for the inconvenience once again. Should you notice any other unusual bugs or permissions, don't hesitate to bring it to the attention of a moderator or higher up.

The channels will open up again shortly! Thank you for your patience.
