#VSTs not making noise whenever I tab into it.

So, I mainly play notes with my laptop's keyboard as I don't have a midi keyboard. Whenever I use any of the VST synths built into LMMS I can usually play notes just fine. However, with 3rd Party VSTs I find it rather difficult to do this.

With plugins like Vital or Noizemaker I have to into LMMS and use vestige's keyboard in order to make any noise since these third party VSTs usually pop up in a separate window. I want to know what sound I'm creating without having to constantly go into vestige and playing a sound through that. I wanna play a sound while I can still fiddle with the VST itself kinda like how FL uses it's VSTs. Is there a way to get around this at all without having to use a midi keyboard?

From the way LMMS handles note input at the moment, I'm guessing it's not at the moment. Hoping it's something that can be implemented in the future though.

I know of one similar situation and wonder if it could be the same that is causing this for you. One of the best soft-synths : Synth1 blocks playback from PC-keyboard if an internal controller is being moved! It looks like* Focus* is set on the controller and not the actual OSC and no sound is the result.
So what to do to make it possible to fiddle with UI controllers but at the same time having notes playing?
There are two options!
1) Use the LMMS dial-array
This works but it can be a bit cumbersome to find the dial that should be changed
2) Insert a short sequence of notes in a segment, and loop-play that
That works perfect! All VSTs UI controllers can be set and changed and the effect of the sound can be heard in real time.

it gets a bit annoying having to press a note, go back into the window where the vst is and change stuff, go back and play a note, go back to change some stuff with the synth, so on and so forth

yeah since you're presumably running wayland you should disable it because it does nothing

#

(actually, are you running wayland?)

I don't quite know? I hate to say this but how do I check if I am running wayland

Oh, I think they exist as separate windows ye ye. They're not embedded inside of LMMS

rugged glen
#

yeah then it's wayland and you should disable embedding because it doesn't work

I see I see

Alright tried playing some notes, thought it's still not working. Still have to play notes through Vistage and can't play anything through the plugin itself

also, last time I did use vital n' stuff on LMMS, but again I had trouble trying to get it to play any notes without vistige

#

even though it DID have a piano roll at the bottom I couldn't play the notes on my laptop's keyboard. I had to click on em to get them to sound

No yeah I still have to play notes through Vestige

#

I may just have to put a note on the paino roll if I don't want to have to click out of the separate window for 3rd Party VSTs then go back to play it directly on Vestige
