It

#

soryr. It's the name of your drive probably

#

You can change this with "Create and FOrmat hard disk partitions" (search for it from your start menu)

fresh belfry
#

I can confirm it isn't

#

I have the same letter and name

#

I made sure of that

celest monolith
#

oh is it this specific file?

fresh belfry
#

yea

#

just this file

#

and the usergig files for my vsts

celest monolith
#

Have you tried installing nightly onto your drive from the laptop and not the PC?

celest monolith
fresh belfry
#

It says usergig: and then the file

celest monolith
#

This could be your lmmsrc xml. May I compare a project file of yours to your lmmsrc xml?

#

I'm not certain I can help you, but I do want to find out about the issue.

fresh belfry
#

Sure, what do I need to send you exactly?

#

the project file and the lmmsrc xml?

celest monolith
#

yes.

#

On your laptop

#

ideally both your laptop's and PCs config file, but just your laptop is also alr

fresh belfry
#

Alright, so where do I find the xml?

celest monolith
#

In your home folder: C:/Windows/Users/%username%/.lmmsrc.xml

#

ideally for a portable configuration I recommend keeping the config file also on the drive so it is portable and using the -c flag in your shortcuts, but we can get to that later

Where inyour drive do you store your gig files?

fresh belfry
#

My directory settings are on (U:) music stuff/

celest monolith
#

by any chance are your projects being saved INSIDE the LMMS folder, along with all the DLLs and the executable?

celest monolith
fresh belfry
celest monolith
#

in the future ideally you want to avoid storing your project files in the install directory. can cause issues

fresh belfry
celest monolith
#

yes, you should store them ideally anywhere else, even alongside, but preferably not inside the install folder.
This shouldn't be causing your present issues, but you may want to consider it in the future.

fresh belfry
#

I mean, I do keep a secondary back-up folder, just in case, I first did it for my original LMMS files, but I can do it for general back-up too

celest monolith
#

Do you use soundfonts by any chance?

fresh belfry
celest monolith
#

If you do, they will also break. Would you like my help avoiding this also?

fresh belfry
#

Break how? Because of my issue or?

celest monolith
#

Can you replace your laptop's lmmsrc xml with this file (place it in the same folder, delete the old one, and rename this .lmmsrc.xml (don't forget the dot)?

fresh belfry
#

Alright

celest monolith
#

This may at least fix your gig issues

fresh belfry
#

Nope, didn't work

celest monolith
#

do you still face the usergig issue?

fresh belfry
#

yeah, I think the gig issue might be because of the other issue

celest monolith
#

I am sorry. This is the limit of my knowledge, and I cannot figure out why any of these issues are happening.

fresh belfry
#

I see. Well thank you anyway, I'll try if I can figure out some other way to use LMMS on my laptop

celest monolith
#

maybe another user or someone more familiar can help you. please let me know if you find a solution or if nobody can help you in the next few days.

fresh belfry
#

Alright, thank you, I will

fresh belfry
#

@celest monolith So the issue with that file somehow fixed itself, I'm only having issues with lmms not being able to find certain plugins

#

it was all plugins before, but now it's just certain plugins

celest monolith
#

I did not expect that.
I recommend you check your drive health, depending on the type of drive it is

So the issue with that file somehow fixed itself,
Do you use several versions of lmms on your system, or is it only that external drive U that has an installation?
I have a Nightly on an USB, but also 1.3 on HD. That 'works' except that if i go back to 1.3. I have to *manually *edit the .lmmsrc.xml so that version is correct. If i do not i cant run 1.3.
So this field
<lmms version="1.3.0-alpha.1.956+f5688e9" configversion="3">
Has to edited in notepad (never edit xml with a word-processor!) -well i use a code-editor, but notepad works.
So for 1.3 it has to be
configversion="2" version="1.3.0-alpha.1.102+g89fc6c960">
c960 is the Nót-Nightly release
Also -When it 'fixed itself' was that after a reboot?
Finally..
How on earth did you get the drive name to be 'U'?!

celest monolith
#

I've checked it out and at least they're consistent so I'm not too worried

#
  • the versions are consistent. The rest of the data, not so much

celest monolith

The version field is consistent between the two

Boom, if you face any folder-not-found issues, let me know and I'll see how I can help with your config files

#

@fresh belfry Could you explain how your external drive has the drive letter 'U'

#

Do you have 24 drives?!

fresh belfry
gusty axle
#

Yes but why have you done that?

fresh belfry
#

I didn't have my files on my external hard drive before, and my previous drive did have a U, dunno why

#

but so, when I copied them over to my external one, I had to change the letters for everything to work

gusty axle
#

Hmm.. It just that the more 'fancy' the more prone for errors. Its best to let windows do its thing, and not be 'smart'

fresh belfry
#

I didn't choose to have it like this, it literally doesn't work if I don't have that letter

#

you need to right file path for projects to load

gusty axle
#

I have done some tests and i have a Nightly that also do not load any VST
It is not the same as yours, but that does not mean it cant be the same issue
I will post here if i have anything new.

fresh belfry
#

Alright, thx

fresh belfry
#

Okay so, I figured out why some of the vsts still weren't working. I had to download/upgrade this part of windows to help them run, and otherwise they wouldn't be able to run. Some of the vsts also needed me to download their management app for them to work, like native access with kontakt and shreddage, or IK multimedia with Modo bass

celest monolith
#

Since I plan to use portable setups I usually avoid plugins that require management apps. You may want to consider what you usually use in the future and the inconvenience of upgrading any device

fresh belfry
#

I mean, with the fact I'm using free things, there aren't many things better from what I've seen than the plugins I use rn, so I'm gonna stick with this for the most part
