i hit play in the song editor and the audio in real time lowers volume if too loud, idk if that counts as rendering or not.

ah, no I don't think that counts as rendering. Maybe try turning all the instruments down and then turning your PC volume up?

I'm not sure, sorry. I think this might just be a result of your audio clipping, and the only solution may be to turn your instruments down.
You could try a different version of LMMS to see if your issue is fixed (e.g nightly)

although it's a nightly version exclusive, i've used 1.2.x for a long time and i had no issues with audio processing

this issue only happens on nightly?? hm. This seems like like a bug we need to look at. For the mean time, you could try alpha or 1.2.2, sorry.
