im using the start01.ogg sample and its about 8 seconds long give or take, but the sample gets choppy after the 1 second limit even when i put the sample on loop so it could play fully through. im still pretty new to the lmms softare so im not sure how to smooth it out

choppy as in it's breaking mid-playback or having a popping sound when it starts/ends?

if it's the former, you may not have dedicated enough buffer samples for LMMS, you can change it in the performance tab in the settings window

if the latter, that's just the audio abruptly cutting, you can use the volume ADSR envelope in the filter and envelopes instrument tab to set a small bit of attack and release so it doesn't pop

i switched my software from lmms to fl studio and everything is working great so i dont think its my cpu, maybe just the beat itself but idk

Maybe the audio interface was the problem, would you try going into the settings and changing the audio interface to something different? (Edit -> settings -> audio)
