hello!
i've been having a lot of problems with my drops ever since i started producing ehh maybe 6 years ago or something like that.

in theory all is there, good bass, layering, good drums that lead the ear, but in practice my songs have always had great buildups and shit drops, what am i doing wrong?

(btw i havent really done any fine mixing so it may be loud on your setup)

i wouldn't say they "suck" (at least, judging by what you posted here)... imo the one in this song just has way too much reverb and could use some more space between the notes in the lead. it sounds super muddy is the only think i find wrong with it

#

like the pieces are all there and it's interesting, just way too much reverb

yeah, i realized the reverb thing after i posted it, but i didnt want to delete the post and reupload it.
the reverb has been solved :)

i do absolutely get what you're saying by the lead has no space in it, i think i'm actually just going to tweak or replace that melody entirely, as that melody is just playing always and it does get annoying to listen to.

the muddiness is just because i haven't spent the time to eq everything properly, i like to do that very last

thanks for the input! :D

if there is i can't hear it at all. i hear the bass at least. but yeah, it needs a huge obvious kick to tell me "this part is a drop, high energy gooo". and don't be shy with the sidechain pumping in a style like this

#

that being said, and considering you have removed some reverb, make sure your hihats are clear too, as they tend to convey energy and movement. the snare is audible and probably fine with your update (but it would be good to hear that too)

#

something to consider: i hear the snare on the 3. but the drop might hit harder with the snare on 2 and 4
