#Minimal House Track With Sampled Vocals

Some notes:
- Kick and bass pluck are interfering--put a more powerful sidechain on the pluck so you don't hear the clipping. You can even see it in the spectrogram and waveform of the track. You can add a sidechain using a peak controller, or with the calf sidechain compressor. There are a number of good tutorials on how to do it so look one up.
- At the beginning, the pluck has a few really high frequencies that I don't think are intentional (third pic). I had to hit the screenshot button a couple of times to even capture it with peak hold on. You should EQ each set of tracks and keep the bass in a certain frequency band, the lead in another, etc...
- When the kick half-times, and then quarter-times building up to the "drop" (as much of a drop as minimal house can be said to have), put an envelope on that sucker so it's not just playing the entire kick sample over itself and getting super distorted
- Overall, good start--mainly saw issues with mixing and frequency ranges of certain tracks (EQ). Then just make sure to master it to the right loudness level and it will sound great!
Also, on (3), you can just cut the length of the midi notes
im having trouble with sidechaining. I have both my peak controller and sidechain compression on the same channel but nothings happening
you have to connect them
Create peak controller on kick channel -> add sidechain compressor to desired channel (in this case, bass) -> right-click on "Detection" -> connect to controller -> select "user controller" -> select the controller you created from the peak controller (generally just called "Controller 1")
but i typically connect to an amplifier and have the peak controller have a negative amount
I did that and the S/C Listen seems to be moving around when the track is played but i cant hear much difference
mess with the multiply and amount factors in the peak controller until something sounds good
i.e., these:
what does each do?
base: the base value the controller stays at when no sound is going in
amount: the amount it changes from the base when sound comes in
mult: the multiply factor for amount
attack: the "attack" or time it takes it to affect after a peak is seen
decay: the "decay" or time it takes the effect to fade
threshold: the threshold to detect a peak
i think i hear a difference
i do hear a difference
Also what should FX be set to?
Here's just the instrumental of what I fixed. Ngl i didnt know how to fix most things but I added sidechain and envelopped the kicks. I think it sounds alot cleaner now
much better--now put compressors on your tracks to trim off anything above about -1 or -2 dB and a limiter at about -0.5 dB. Then limit the master track at slightly below 0 dB (like -0.1 dB)
whichever FX track you wish it to be on
FX tracks are numerically indexed, with 0 being master and 1-infinity being tracks you create. it won't even let you go beyond 0 unless you've created an FX track or multiple
Which compressor should I use?
The stock on is good
just make sure to be intentional about how much you are cutting
The track sounds great but if you cut too much it will take that dancy feel away
I heard the fixed instrumental and the old one, and it sounds great! The basic groove of the whole thing which loops for the whole song is rlly repetitive
i would say lower it down and introduce more instruments fitting the mood of the track and take them in and out to make it better
Calf Compressor?
there's a plugin just called "compressor" that comes with lmms
Ya
I mean it works, have not used it before
I have mastered the track and I think it sounds really nice
