Thing my girlfriend and I are working on, vocals sound decent despite being recorded on a brick

Out of ideas as towards what to do, some people don't like how the drums sound very compressed/lofi.

I enjoyed that. The vocals sound great despite being from a "brick" 😄
Is there a flanger or something on your hihats? that sound was a bit distracting even though it is interesting. maybe turn down the wet a bit.

imo the song just needs some more arrangement. I really want to hear the section from 0:33 to 1:00ish repeated again at the end of what you have here. maybe with a little something different like an new pad to make it more different than the first time.

All the drums have a flanger on em, but I have a layer of hats that is extremely compressed and distorted

honestly i love doing that with hats. it has a lot of nice texture and depth

im just saying that it's slightly too up front. maybe even just volume down on the compressed hihats a tiny bit

Maybe I could add an expander and some reverb to make it more airy, instead...?

i feel like that might accentuate the "problem". sometimes just volume down is the best thing. the idea is good it's just too much of a good thing
