definitely, Blade
@blissful sequoia I got it
lol
dont change it, this is public to thousands of people moorep
dont let anyone else into your account lol
Derp can you access it
yea i see it
Thanks yall
but i dont have an account there
Oh, just tell me what you want to add/remove and I can do it
@narrow escarp Are you going to be watching Blu-Rays?
Let's get the optical drive out of the way
@blissful sequoia this was my budget build 2 years ago: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/BladeRikWr/saved/qhqKHx
oops wait
what do you think about this cooler? https://pcpartpicker.com/product/8pgPxr/noctua-cpu-cooler-nhd9l
seagate 1TB >_<
@blissful sequoia I'm paying that price right now because I am out of storage space
๐ฆ
for seagate?!
What's so bad??
I USED THAT WEBSITe
the 1TB doesn't get used anymore, but they were terrible failure rates, seagate is improved now but that size was terrible
Well
so just for fun
2 years going strong Derp ๐
I don't think Moore needs an i9 guys
its just not a trustworthy brand, yea maybe hybrids are different
i agree, i dont think he does either, but he might also be trying to make a beast
i9s.. don't really do that...
not for gaming
I don't think that's good for future proofing though tbh
maybe high frequency i7 is better way to spend the money
@narrow escarp I feel bad for that AMD CPU pre-Ryzen
I agree Derp, if anything, he should get a high end i7 then
Also I really recommend against buying 32 GB of RAM with the current prices...
i9 still in the tick phase, right?
i9 is bad for gaming
Did RAM prices ever go down?? Last time I checked was last year
Not high enough clock speed
No, not really @inner basin
If anything they went up I think
yes theyve come down a little from the high a year or two ago
still bad tho
but waiting for it to get cheaper, lol
@narrow escarp do you need an optical drive??
he also doesnt need a full atx case, mid atx will do i believe
Moorep... why are you getting 2 video cards...
He doesn't know too much when it comes to this, don't blame him
when you're better off buying a single better one?
and I mean that in a nice way
What's the pricepoint you're looking for Moorep?
He said $2k
"editing videos"... are we leaning toward high end i7 then?
Yea
I mean how hard is it to replace a chip
one day
I can manage that
Grabs Blowtorch
Depends
Some chips use the same connection (I.E. 1151), but if you get a chip which uses a different one you have to buy a whole new Mobo
i would get this case because i am ridiculous: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/G766Mp/cooler-master-mastercase-h500-atx-mid-tower-case-mcm-h500-ignn-s00
i really like that though
Y'all good with this CPU?
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/WtyV3C/intel-core-i7-9700k-36ghz-8-core-processor-bx80684i79700k
If you're going to get an expensive case
when you finish this thing and theres like no exposed wires or weird drives, it will look slick
yea, what mobo for it blade?
my room gets hot so that would be awesome
everyone covers the vents in this damn place
You know how many mobos there are out there?
3.1415926535 million
Idk derp we'll have to see
so when heat comes in my vent is only one exposed so rip
Mhm.
lol, theres like 1, its a mature cpu, theres going to be 1 that everybody loves
also, a bigger computer case doesnt mean cooler computer
If we were talking about the 8700K I'd agree, but uh, the 9700K is really new.
the case fans will push air through, case size wont affect temperature if no wires are in the way
@sly mortar it's an intel ... tock chip tho, or whatever comes after tock?
its like a 3rd iteration at least
its mature compared to an i9, im suggesting
i7-8700k has 6 cores compared to the one I gave you, which has 8 cores
oh
so probably the same motherboard could work?
if its that new itll be same socket i assume
@inner basin @blissful sequoia @sly mortar thanks
its #technical-chat, we like picking computer parts more than playing foxhole
Same socket as the 8700K
LGA1151 socket
yea but theres a new variation of the 1151 for i9's i think
i9s dont work in the older 1151s
@narrow escarp no problem
some ridiculous stipulation about that...
The same happened with the 8700K
We're going for the i7 though
When 8 series released you couldn't use previous mobos with it
lol
hehe
^ from the Intel page on the i7-9700k
ok so are we assuming the same motherboard works? it's a good mobo?
guys my last fan died
im operating a cooling system powered by the great outdoors
I just placed my tower in my window
you're right to do so, just that everything else hinges on it
sometimes i just pick the best reviewed
Fuck Icanari it's $273 XD
4/5 stars on amazon... eek
Derp yeah everything is dependent on the mobo basically
Yeah, but it's fucking amazing.
Haven't had a single issue in... 7 years of running this line of Mobos
Maybe slightly longer.
I'm just gonna look at ASUS mobos now...
i trust your judgement, blade is the skeptic i think
wants to research the crap out of it!
man i just made one at work that plays movies
what's the chipset arghhh
Intel Z370
Or 470
Can't remember
Depends whether you want the 9700K or the 8700K
8700K is 370, and I think they jumped to 470 for the 9700K
i got one of these a couple months ago https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813144209
thats the one that has a freakin screen on it
where it says true gaming, thats just like a lcd display
it's 600 dollars
see that comment - not backwards compatible?
ok
- Not backward compatible with older generation of LGA 1151 CPUs
why didnt they change the socket name!!!
Cause they're dumb
so blade can we assume the mobo icanari recommended?
How I imagine your all building this pc
easy to swap it out later for equiv chipset/socket/brand
@blissful sequoia you were asking how I play Division II?
lagged into a wall going up a rope again
yes i thought i read you said you were getting tired of foxhole anyway
Oh also
Yea when its the same people same patterns
The motherboard I linked has an integrated WIFI Adapater
didnt know we were getting a hoard of new people
How many more days is it?
only thing that makes this game fun
3-4?
for?
The ban
i think that 32gb is a good price. id do it.
let me look
lol i think we lost @inner basin to tomshardware
This program has stopped responding
bladerikwr.exe has stopped working
I resign
why?
I gtg bc brother's birthday is today, but if @sly mortar recommends it I guess I can too
its all good we got time lol
I'm currently on a case...
Note: PCPartPicker lists are not collaborative lol. Everytime you update a part make sure to update the link we are working on
New one: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/pDKNbX
@sly mortar @inner basin 8 days 4 hours
Wow.
๐ See y'all in 3 hours maybe
I thought it had been longer.
again, if i were building the pc id buy my copy of windows pro from another source cheaper
Pro?
$100 for windows home would be a painful pill to swallow
Why pro?
game bar features, etc
Game bar?
yea for like recording, i dunno windows 10 pro has more stuff, and if you can get it cheap...
ok ive got a good reason
you cannot deny this one
to turn off windows updates.
in pro, the group policy editor can disable them while you are logged in, which can be forever
home doesnt have an easy method
And I've never been forced to update.
i think theyre all hacks or something
the obvious remote desktop server is only relevant to some people
i woudl be bothered paying so much for the nerfed version of windows
@inner basin can you pls swap the SSD with this: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/2K22FT/western-digital-black-nvme-1tb-m2-2280-solid-state-drive-wds100t2x0c
Why that one?
its m.2, not sata
No, but why that m.2
they only have 3, they differ by size, that one is 1TB
very limited nvme selection on that site
Holy shit that one is slow
do you see a better one?
even if its slow its faster than the sata ssd i bet
Yes, but there are faster ones.
and it will look way nicer
Samsungs'
Yeah
its not listed as nvme, so ...
where do you see hte M
i always forget b and m, i wish theyd just write sata/nvme
I'm having trouble finding a case
The case I used is great, but they don't seem to sell it anymore.
picture this, with no wires inside
he wants red lights, and those can be configured to red or w/e, i bet the fans are loud and cheap tho
maybe the fans are not tied into the lights
Those are LED fans
nice powder coating, smooth edges inside...
do rgb fans have another connector to set the light color?
bigger fans are quieter!
Uh.. they're 4 pin I think.
the 4th pin should just be for the fan speed
theres another 4 pin connector?
yes!!!
why can't they make something that isn't a variation of beige
they make a grey one
Let me find that one...
its their cheaper ones, they dont come with all the bells and whistles
Mhm.
no fan adjustment speed, you buy them knowing what speed you want, for example
no extension cable either, no rubber stand-offs
That's dumb.
but its also just simple grey, looks better
nope, no redux fans in 200mm size, only 140mm and 120mm
Now available in a square frame version called NF-P14s (s for square frame) that lends itself to use in case and radiator cooling, the classic NF-P14 is a long-standing favourite among enthusiast users around the world and helped to found Noctuaโs reputation as a top-tier m...
thats what they look like
anyway id opt for a mid-atx case, not the full atx
Could get a be quiet! one
more options, cheaper prices, easier to move around and put stuff
and id get the windows pro from a different place as i mentioned, those are my 2 inputs
@blissful sequoia @sly mortar did we settle?
Sorry yall I had to get a good 2hrs sleep before work
Its amazing what 2 hrs sleep and 3 large coffees can do to rejuvenate the soul
@narrow escarp Here's my current list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/R9GVvn
Differences TL:DR
More expandable mobo for upgrades
16gb Less ram
Way faster storage drive (3-4x)
Better GPU
No wifi adapter because it's part of the Motherboard
Thanks for everything, should I get an adapter anyway to boost signal?
@sly mortar I mean do they make 60 ft ethernet cords?
It's worth it as well.
not at all
They make some cord holders that you can push an ethernet cord into
Let me find a link
They're great
i have a problem where every time i try to join a war it says "lost connection to sever. please try again" and i have been trying i have reinstalled the game and it still happens
@waxen hound Please follow the steps listed in this message: https://discordapp.com/channels/203512636556574720/551236268004999168/551239621598773249
Also @sly mortar How the hell did you manage to keep the price the same while getting a way cheaper CPU
Is the 1TB SSD stick really necessary though...
Moore said he's video editing and stuff, I feel like he would need more storage space tbh
Because 1 TB is not enough for my saved Foxhole videos ๐ฆ
I mean, or just add a 1TB to it
Speed matters? I thought all SSD's were the same
yes but SSDs are way more expensive per GB
That thing is about.. 5-6x faster than the one he sent.
Oh @narrow escarp, you may need to buy an external optical drive as well (CD reader), so that you can install drivers.
๐ฟ
No, he needs to install windows.

screw you XD
I'm pretty sure there is a special tool just for installing Windows 10 from a USB
They had one for Windows 7 ๐
I have a problem where I can hear all audio but no ingame voices, how do I fix that?
i used a disc to install a really old windows then just upgraded for free to 10
@lunar sparrow Uh.. is an error message coming up in the chatbar?
no
Alright
I mean, using Windows 10 and not outdated software kind of helps me from accusations
like I see people talking and I just cant hear em
@lunar sparrow Make sure your voice OUTPUT device is configured correctly in Settings > Voice
So @narrow escarp your decision whether to go full 1 TB SSD or like 500 GB SSD and 2 TB HDD
depends on how much video you are going to record and store
Im probably storing and editing a shit ton
Eh fuck it.
1 TB SSD for "futureproofing", amirite
I really am going to go through with the youtube and recording wars etc post war
How much stuff is on your disc right now?
Mhm.
wait I have his stats
I believe the problem is that it is trying to play the voices through my monitor, but I have no speakers yet cuz I just got the pc and it doesn't show option for the headset so I think im screwed
I feel like more Colonial content on youtube is needed
even if its not my own id like to link up with others
System stuff is normally around... 300-400gb, so that would leave 700 for video on there... hmm...
@sly mortar
OH
Wtf kind of system stuff are you talking about???
Windows is 30 GB chill
Everything except videos
I literally will just be on Foxhole and Division II
probably not on Division II even
Ok.
I like editing and videos just never had the tech
Hmm...
I use to do it all the time in college for the radio / news
My suggestion for $40 more, (total of 2038), is a 500GB NVME, and a 1TB Sata for video storage.
NVM Express (NVMe) or Non-Volatile Memory Host Controller Interface Specification (NVMHCIS) is an open logical device interface specification for accessing non-volatile storage media attached via a PCI Express (PCIe) bus. The acronym NVM stands for non-volatile memory, which ...
TL:DR Super fast connection point that's directly on the Mobo
They're much, much faster than a regular SSD
Due to physical limitations of the SATA interface, I see
and they look awesome
magnetic storage is better for videos, 6TB hgst is like $165
@sly mortar i like that computer you built. does it need 3 fans? am i the only one who wont pay retail for a windows license? lol
oh i see why, nevermind youre right
@blissful sequoia I got my Windows license from a now defunct company for $30
still works tho, right?
Yep
Well, it was originally a Windows 7 Professional key, but I got the free upgrade to Windows 10
Eh, you see
i was pleased to see the noctua on there
I hate how they look
moorep might not be lol
But I acknowledge that they're amazing
I leave my pre-installed fans on my case because they are hard-wired to the case's fan controller
well isnt that what youre signifying by it? something ugly that everyone knows is great?
because they can? why does american flag look so bad.
i appreciate that its a fan and doesnt need gilding
but they really went out of their way to choose ugly colors
ok ok, ive got the analogy. you know like those gold teeth grills? they dont look good, but we know they make you important
we know your dentist is the business.
im not a huge fan of those cooler master evo cooler included fan either, the 120mm ones
was their any money left in the budget for red LEDs?
ooo
@narrow escarp List with all the changes we discussed: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/NcVbP3
An LED strip is like $10
I find the modular cables to be too short when you weave them throuhg the back of nice cases, extensions for the video card power (https://www.amazon.com/Silverstone-Sleeved-Extension-Connector-PP07-PCIB/dp/B00B46XJ7K/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=8+pin+pcie&qid=1552801284&s=gateway&sr=8-5) are really nice and give a good look
if we're talking accessories like thermal paste. but I couldn't find it listed on their site
it's kind of a tough angle to plug in a cable on a video card and have it look nice without those sleeved extensions
or this is more specific to the use: https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-PowerLink-Support-Founders-600-PL-2816-LR/dp/B01MQ1YEYH
way cheaper and nicer looking, yea that thing
Thermal paste really isn't an accessary...
i agree, but its literally accessory
its really nice to just have that stuff around
Thanks y'all
My technical achievement today was getting my name off a YouTube channel I made
Lol

a
ive spend looking a solid 3 mins now looking at the hands clap to the beat of the song im listening too
@sly mortar is that ok?
That's alright
@narrow escarp If you are NOT getting a HDD (mechanical hard drive) that will not be an issue. It still won't be an issue if you DO get a HDD.
BUT it the motherboard ONLY has one SATA 6 Gb/s port, then your HDD will be a little slow ๐
Not enough pci channels on cheap boards...
@inner basin I have no idea what that means ill look it all up. I still imagine motherboards as little alien lunchables I'd have to stab for power.
i also couldnt help notice the 2070 costs as much as the 1070
maybe even cheaper, actually
@narrow escarp It's fine. The board has... 4 PCIe slots, and... 6-8 SATA 6Gb/s slots.
@blissful sequoia @inner basin going to buy today do we have a list that yall are good with? Thanks @sly mortar
Mhm
Final list currently: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/NcVbP3 @inner basin @blissful sequoia
@sly mortar how about 2070 instead of 1070?
@gritty token Do it
im seeing its actually cheaper
budget is $2000
used lol
ohhh
bump up to 2.6k
i was told 2.6k lol
Oh
money came in
Alright
1080TI LETSSS GOOO
That's easy then
im not too fond of the 2070 / 2080
^
how come?
performance per cost
lol
1080ti does wonders
the whole machine ... performance per cost ... is out of this world
by that logic he should have a 980
Do you know how fucking expensive 2080 Tis are?
i mean i have lga 1150 and im happy with my computer
Minimum 1200
Shit works well
but the 2070 appears cheaper than the 1070
minimum
its like 3-4 years old
but i just posted a link
Yeah... and it's ~89 more expensive than the 1070
yall really gonna let moore buy 3 case fans?
Yeah?
just why
Because he isn't getting watercooling?
And even with water cooling I'd still suggest 3 fans...
VIDEO EDITING
here's the 2070 on the same site: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/mYYLrH/evga-geforce-rtx-2070-8gb-black-video-card-08g-p4-1071-kr
its 489 and the 1070 is 499 isnt it?
One sec
They're different tiers of card
EVGA 08G-P4-5173-KR SC GAMING ACX 3.0 Black Edition GeForce GTX 1070 8 GB 1.594 GHz (47) $499.99
willing to bet the 2070 has better performance
EVGA 08G-P4-2277-KR FTW3 ULTRA GAMING GeForce RTX 2070 8 GB 1.41 GHz (0) $627.68
yall might wanna explain to moore how to apply the artic silver
Those are the same tier
He hasn't even fucking ordered yet
and circuits everything dead
im thinkin that evo comes covered in thermal paste already that has to be removed, just a guess
yeah
its pretty common, even noctua does it
actually maybe they dont, i cant remember
It doesn't
isopropyl works? i usually use the citrus based cleaners
or in a seperate tube
yes its pre-applied with a plastic cover usually
I have the EVO, I have 2 EVOs in 2 different machines, and neither came applied
That's not normal Derp.
Then you're getting bad heatsinks
i would never
i saw them come with a tube of paste you can apply
but never pree applied
it just sounds weird
"oh you ordered a heatsink lets pre apply STICKY HARD TO CLEAN stuff at the bottom of it"
well its less messy than you putting it on yourself

intel even puts it in little lines on their stock cooler
not just one sheet of it
Well yeah... that's a stock cooler..
how tf is it messy yourself?
you put a dot in the centre
and press it down with some plastic shit
so it spreads
really? you cant see how buttering your own toast is messier than getting pre-buttered toast?
ive probably still got themal paste wiped on stuff ill never get it off
Updated Parts List with 1080 ti and 2TB drive: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/mNGtD2
its a machine, not a person that applies it
i trust machines even less lmao
wtf is the point of a 2tb drive
VIDEO STORAGE
why 2tb, why so small?
because he already has a 1TB SSD on the side for video storage
host a furry website lmao
2tb seems so small like why even buy it
860 EVO: Videos which are being edited
2TB: Storage
cause youre never gonna use more than 2tb
how much is a 2tb drive?
i have trouble using 1 tb
if youre not doing intense stuff
2TB is $140
you wont use 1tb
you guys are amateur ๐
if you reguralry maintain it
6tb is like 160!
and clear it of useless shti you dont use
For a fucking Archive drive yeah
Not for a drive which you can move videos on and off of
huh an archive drive?
i see putting a 2tb drive on a modern computer like putting on a floppy drive or cd rom lol
What the hell do you use your PC for?
"server hostign"
well ill tell you what i never use it for - deleting files
i dunno, 2tb seems very small to me
dude you know how long it takes to fill up 1 tb?
i can fill that up at work in days
hint i got 130 somethig games on my pc
still got 100 gb left
granted its mostly 6-10 gb games but still
Seagate is fine
seagate not fine
Yes they are
a hdd is not a hdd, you guys are nuts
no matter whcih company
They're perfectly fine unless you're using them for servers
theyre garbage
No, they aren't.
im using only toshiba tbh
absolute garbage.
thats survivor bias
your drive is fine, so all drives are fine
they are definitely a bad brand, they make a terrible 2tb

(said he never would get a 2tb )
(shits on a 2 tb drive=
you got a vendetta agaisnt the 2 terra club huh
no its just ... its as outdated as an armored car in late war
and seagate is the worst version of it
you want really shity hdds?
the sweet price point for drives is STILL 4tb as it has been for at least 4 years
hgst is by far the best, what are you talking about
godamn hitachi
And that's still ATLEAST 200-300 dollars
how can you think hgst is the worst and seagate is fine
oh you guys just dont deal with storage much hehe
youre still in that 5 year seagate warranty mindset i think

toshiba is great!
all are fine for the average consumer tho
i mean seagate used to have the longest warranty on retail drives, 2 years longer than others, and led people to believe that meant their product was higher quality
it was empirically not
the only hdd that died on me was a WD
its statistics, dont operate on your own experiences
ive lost many a deathstar in my day, before they became the best drives ever
ive got a bunch of those ibm 40gb death stars still just for laughs
the only drive worse than seagate...
my first hdd was 30mb
i even bought some of the early sandisk NOR flash memory, 10mb of it cost me $70
Man if you look back
Since we got schools running
Technology made such a leap
100 years ago we were still fighting trexes with sticks
Now we are almost at the stage of mars colonizing
colonizing mars less plausible than fighting t-rexes with sticks lol
im still reeling the way you guys defend seagate, im so saddened
its like if 1/3 people who bought seagate got a brick in their box instead, and you guys are like "i didnt get a brick, my drive works great"
Yeah... 1/3 people don't...
lets go back to 2015, the era of those drives: https://www.backblaze.com/blog/hard-drive-reliability-stats-for-q2-2015/
9% failure rate
maybe not 1/3, but what number would it take to stop buying that brand for you?
meanwhile hgst rolling around 1-1.5% in that same era
and the price is about the same
nothing important for me to keeep
warranty is the same
then id buy the hitachi
sure fine, but if youre still buying seagate 2tb drives, i mean ... why
toshiba 0 failure rate tho
they probably didnt buy many toshibas? dunno
backblaze tends to buy a lot of WD
they look at drives as commodity, seagate too, they dont particularly stumble when there is a failure, its just a cost thing for them
but i think when you have a single drive in your computer, no mirror, failure rate should be important
yea their sample size for toshiba and samsung may not be reliable
wd is ok... better than seagate
...
i think of WD as a middle of the road brand
Here's the thing though... out of 17,895 drives, 3% stopped function. For WD, out of 45 drives, 1.5% stopped working.
That's a massive difference
And not a beneficial difference for WD
You can check other benchmarks, they buy more wd over time I think. Consistently Seagate has shameful failure rates, i read those benchmarks every quarter
Yeah.. but unless those benchmarks use the same amount of drives from each manufacturer, it's effectively worthless.
Because duh there will be more failure rates in 18000 drives than 45
Hgst is also clearly the standout quality up until last year
Yes 45 is too low of a sample, but their sample for Seagate is high
Yeah, so stop comparing it to a sample of 45 drives
If you want to compare them, go find different data with around the same amount of drives
1000 drives is a good enough sample
Not if the other sample is 18K
And frankly I don't care about WD
I'm not comparing to wd. I'm comparing to hgst
That's still a different of 6K drives...
like i said, 1k is a good enough sample size to have a low margin of error
they dont have to be comparable sizes
i think an interesting phenomenon with hard drives, is there is a turning point in their life if they can make it past their failure rate per year begins to drop
kind of like old people, if you make it to like 110 your death odds start going down each year
some hard drives and people are like super durable
it would be super cool to build a server out of these survivor drives, because theyll probably live like 20 years more
Alright boys
lets get buying if were ready?
I am off in 2 weeks so it would give the shit time to ship
then assemble
@blissful sequoia @sly mortar @inner basin @gritty token
are we the only people you are asking about spending $2k?
why do you guys have 2 ssd's
@sly mortar holy shit, reading the old convo, pull your head out of your ass mate. why do you sound so entitled to think you're right about everything
you guys have a 1tb ssd and a 500mb ssd listed in addition to the 2tb hdd
Where's the part list?
you really only need 1 ssd. ssd's are meant to be fast, not store a lot
get the 1tb ssd and use it to put your OS and a select few games that you want to boot up extremely fast on.
then just get 2 hdd's instead for storage space
for everything else
1tb ssd should fit plenty of games and other programs anyway
@narrow escarp when you buy the parts do you get it from that site or go to each individual retailer?
1tb HDD is my current situation right now... need more storage lol
yeah same here
each retailer I think
@blissful sequoia Each retailer, PCPartPicker is not a seller
because i suggested adding something that wasnt listed on that part site
it might be going amazon is the better move?
amazon wont necessarily have all of that
Amazon > Newegg
But Newegg generally has a bigger inventory
i know it probably has most of it
its only a $10 addition but not on the part list
i know for a fact it has the ram listed because i was literally looking at that ram on amazon last night
@blissful sequoia You can custom add a part
i wasn't editing the list
and icanari already picked the case i liked so i thought that was 1 win already
first thing that list needs is to get rid of the extra ssd unless you want 1.5tb of ssd space honestly. 1tb is more than enough imo
lol
speaking from experience?
SSD is nice
lol
Yes
yikes
Too much experience
wait whats the problem with editing videos on hdd? its sequential
what goes wrong with it?
hmm i always thought the transfer speeds were pretty good...
Rendering was ~30-40% on my HDD than my SSD
any video work i do is encoding, wouldnt care about hdd i guess
because the video is raw its a lot of transfer?
I don't know exactly why, I just know the outcome
soooooo are they gonna put up more servers so there isnt a queue in every land?
they're making lots of money off this sale so.....
i hope not, because 3 days later theres a bunch of empty servers we have to deal with
should be scalable
we had like 3k active last winter sale i thought
I'll see about something
i mean not very scalable if we're sitting here for 15 mins waiting to play
you can go to a different region cant you?
all regions are queued?? wow.
yeah
should hae played warden
:/
no waiting
well you are in queue because the population is unbalanced
weve had more people than this before active in the war
All of the regions are not queued
Fishman's, Oarbreaker, Farranac, Deadlands, Reaching Trail, Great March, and Tempest Island have no queues for the colonials.
However, there may be a global queue in effect
the word is 2:1 pop
maybe put up something when joining? "Hey 90% of people already chose colonial, you should probably be warden"
That's the "queue times may be longer.." sign.
@vernal timber They already have that
It's something like "Colonials are at capacity. Expect queues."
Any idea why the imbalance? Like explaining the stock market...
Last time it was so different it was a streamer
because we are superior
just the look maybe
Its the fist and knife
honestly looks cooler
Has that "might" appearance
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/NcVbP3 @sly mortar @inner basin @blissful sequoia so this is what im buying?
Noh
Differences:
Better GPU (better video stuff, and better games)
More storage (2TB harddrive extra)
@sly mortar whats up with the 2nd SSD?
lol which people
blade
hmmm his thinking is often very similar to mine
but i feel like 1TB is conservative
Do you know
big difference in price?
How expensive 2TB SSDs are

yea i guess im finding it surprising how little space you guys operate with
ive got a 512gb ssd now and i feel like it was fine when i bought it 2 years ago
is it more expensive to have 2 ssd like that, tho?
@narrow escarp what do you think about those fans?
are those going to be a painful eyesore to you?
oooh i see you got 500gb more storage, bah, i guess im the only one who hates segmented storage
i find it odd the number of people who still have an OS and data partition separate into the windows 10 days
I mean, you could just make the m.2 a 1TB as well, not really necessary though.
It's $100 more for that
$200 more if you just get a 2TB m.2
if it were my computer id do 1x1TB nvme and 2x4TB magnetic
id spend the money on storage and probably cut elsewhere, like windows license, etc
id probably spend a good chunk on a nice screen too
$450 will get you a pretty great display
@sly mortar have you ever done an SLI rig?
Not worth it
Also, 2x4TB magnetic is... something around $800
You lose so much of the second card's power from SLI, and a lot of programs don't support it
i would expect it to be around $300
yea i dont know anyone whos done SLI, but i think i have questions about it
and there was a 4x SLI thats like defunct that nobody uses and its hard to find connectors
yeah skip sli
did you have a bad experience, hayden?
not bad but not great
disappointing performance?
err - im confused, its not just supported at the directx/opengl/vulcan level?
each game [engine] has to support it?
No, SLI doesn't use about 2/3 of the second GPU
And yes, each engine has to support it on top of that
god that really does sound awful
On top of that, most games have to specifically code for it as well
yeah some games get good boost other none
if you can get a 2nd hand card cheap down the track its might be ok, thats what i did
but dont buy new, 1 better is always better, less power, less heat, more space, better support
wow i just assumed it was lower level than that
Nope
i mean it has its place if you got lots of money and 1 of the best card isnt good enough
but i mean if you already hav ethe best
quadro not a gaming card though ?
Titan is a different card
oh
Better than even the 1080 TI
Having trouble talking to people in the game in the past 3 days
I can see them talking but can't hear
I also do not have a mic at the current moment
its an old bug that sometimes happens
i think in the settings for voice there is option to reconnect, see if that helps when it is happening
make sure its set to the right sound output device
Reconnect doesnt seem to work, and I'm on the only active speaker setting
if you dont see a connection error, then soundmeeter software has been our answer to that problem
something about the voice software doesnt work with some mics, and redirecting it through voicemeeter (or vb-cable I guess) gets around the problem
there are various voice chat problems
lots of resources about them in #technical-read-firstโ also
So voicemeeter didnt work either. Could I be muted?
either way
yes if it has worked b4 for you it is likely just this bug, it will also likely pass
@narrow escarp If you need help assembling a computer, don't hesitate to ask
