Got an idea for a Warden character of sorts, but need to research Folk lore.

A small ethnic enclave. They are caoivish but with a distinct set of features. Mainly dark bluish hair

Its a folklore from them of two things. The first is that one of their descendants was taken as the wife of Maelir the sea god (depicted in the FC book as a sea god who took many follies). Think of him as a Gaelic Zeus.

She was a kelpie and intermingled with her people who learned how to breathe underwater. Thougg in reality this shows in their skills at free diving to gather abalone, clams and Pearl oysters.

The other is a story about how in the south, long ago, during an age of fantasy from the south numerous Selkies; sea nymphs who can turn into seals also searched for a home but was not welcomed anywhere...until they came to Endless Shore where they were given home by the inhabitants of Lights End.

Whichever the case these people lived in Lights End. They lived a purely maritime life as freedivers.

Think Ama divers but with gaelic feel.

Renowned for their diving and swimming skills to gather seafood and considered "Mermaids of Lights end"

In the great war, they aligned Warden and one of their members was instrumental in ending a foreign occupation in the small Island by swimming from Tuatha to Brackish point to bring Intel to the Wardens.

Some even brag that their descendants were hands of Callahan (but this is disputed and cannot be verified)

One thing is for certain however.

When the Colonials took control of Lights end, a Consul named Maurinius Aurus the 5th and self styled as "The Magnanimous" heard of these people. He then had them rounded up and summarily executed as "spies"

The character is one of the last few remaining members who escaped that massacre. Operates mostly in the Naval division as a radio spotter, medic and logistician.

I'm not so certain on the lore (needs corroboration) but they were from a time when they didn't have Last names.

They were from a 'fantasy-ish' era back when people believed in legends.

In that clan, they do not have Last names. Only Last names are afforded to people of exceptional quality.

For example, in their folklore they have a hero name Iseult the Sunchaser, who is a fusion of Anaeid and Beowulf.

The clan don't keep last names unless they are considered very valorous or accomplished much.

Of course they can take Caovish last names if they're more Caovish than their traditional enclave is (which is the case for the character)

Again, all speculah. Will have to corroborate.

I will say their origin story does explain that while they aren't Selkies in real life, they were people looking for a home. They originally settled in Farranac, but were chased away.

They only found their home in LIght's End.

Too small to be a Clan of great influence. Even their most famous member, the one who swam to Brackish, isn't anywhere near as noteworthy as someone like Cormac Flood, ect;

So tldr; Not a big enough clan to make a massive political influence in Caovish politics. Just sort of their own thing as I don't like impeding on lore both discovered or not.
