Im not sure how modern paratrooper do it, but it's possible they weren't equipped with night vision and simply assumed odessa's lights were out, so they jump when the call was made. Other than that, I'm not even sure if the event is true

The Ukrainians say that nobody made it to shore, adding “we didn’t even have to open fire”.
