The primary good advice I got back when I was new was simply just "If you're not sure you're going to survive long, only carry two spare clips of ammo on your person."
Stuck to that method and had great returns.
So I'd say just listen to advice on a case by case basis. Even an asshole can give good tips.
And if you ignore good advice just because the person is an asshole or a clan of assholes, well, you're only hurting yourself. If someone tells you not to do something because it will be disruptive, even if it's a bit dickishly, and you continue to do it because "I play the game how I want," have fun pissing off multiple people on your side.

So I have heard of an outbreak of people sabotaging bunker bases on both teams by basically upgrading reserved area to stairs. Just saying there should be a toggle that the original builder can use to reserve bunker square to make it none edittable by anyone but him (or possibly his regiment) for 2 days.
