Today it is Data Protection Day
This post isn't just about protecting data, but more like a message to keep you and your members safe :)

Dyno Protections
A way to keep your members fairly safe by setting up an automod rule with the "phishing link" filter, this will delete all known phishing links.
Another filter that is handy to protect your members is the "invite links" filter, there are a lot of not so very fun servers out there that will try to harm you. You can also use the "Links" filter to just block every link.

General Tips
Be cautious when authorising any applications if they need the permission "join servers for you". You can see which applications you have authorised by going to your profile settings and check the tab "authorised apps".
On top of that, you shouldn't scan QR codes to "verify and get access" on a server as you will likely get your account compromised.
You should also consider setting up multi-factor authentication for Discord and your other accounts.

We had a bit of a technological takeover situation on our hands. As you saw above, our AI bots got a little too ambitious and seized control of the server. But fear not, our vigilant admins have successfully wrangled control back from the clutches of our mechanical friends. We had to take on the master AI bot @heavy widget himself, by breaking into the very server room that powers him and shutting him down.

Leveling System Upgrade!

Hey everyone! We're making some big changes to our leveling system. Starting today, we'll be switching from Tatsu to Dyno's new Levels Module to handle all your XP and leveling needs on the server!

Here’s everything you need to know:

Starting from scratch: Everyone will begin fresh with the new system, but fret not, we’re keeping Tatsu's XP for legacy purposes. You won’t be able to gain more XP from Tatsu, though
Your leveled roles: If you've earned any special leveled roles through Tatsu, you’ll keep those roles (unless you leave the server, in which case it will be assessed on a case-by-case basis)
New leveled roles: We’ve added some new leveled roles, and you can find all the details, including the level requirements for each, over in #welcome!

You can always check your current level/XP and leaderboard ranking by using the ?profile and ?leaderboard commands in #commands!

Hi hi!

@upbeat vault has decided to start chasing banana wagons (like these ones! bananawagon ), and as such he's been pretty busy - so sadly, he'll be stepping down from the Community Manager position. He has, without a doubt, significantly impacted the server in multiple meaningful ways, while also ensuring everything is going smoothly in the community. He certainly deserves all of the appreciation he can get for his contributions over the years. That being said, fret not - he's not going anywhere, he is still going to remain as a Council member to continue helping around!

What that means, is that it has been decided for me to take on the role of the Community Manager going forward! I hope I can continue to support the server and Dyno as best as I can - just like Raven has been. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out either to me or any of the other <@&203040224597508096> nerds, of course

Make sure to thank Raven whenever you see him around for all of his hard work as a Community Manager over the years, and I most certainly wouldn't have been here today if it weren't for him - so thank you! mikuloves

Update
Music is back, play and add commands should be working again. Please make sure the bot has permissions to join the voice channel you are in.

Also with this update, more general stability improvements and optimization a that will further reduce the need to restart the bot for many reasons, and prevent more auto restarts from bugs.

Update 🎉
I've released a major update to the bot that has been in progress for a couple weeks now.

Music has been rewritten with several bug fixes and improvements, some new features to follow
New: Server event log (action log)
New: Warnings log and warnings command
New: Roles and role info commands
New: Timed auto roles for role on join
So many bug fixes and small changes that I can't list them here

This is a major update that's refactored much of the bot for future development and new features. There may be a few bugs that you encounter that I don't already know about, if you do, please let us know in any of the support channels :)

Something happened with youtube that caused music to not work, as a result of that, many people began slamming the bot with music commands causing significant lag. In the future, I'll be implementing better protection against this sort of event causing issues with the bot.

Added the ?mentionable role name command to toggle a role being mentionable.
Added the ow command for overwatch stats, type ?help ow for more
Added Cleverbot, just start your message by mentioning the bot.
Added tag and tags commands, see ?help tag
Added ?queue shuffle
Added ignored channels to action log and AFK
Announcements now supports multi-line join/leave/ban announcements

This release included many bug fixes and small enhancements throughout the bot. And the next release will bring a redesigned website, live stream announcements, and more \o/

Automod, ActionLog, and several other modules moved to a second smaller server for independent uptime and performance
The mostly but still simply redesigned website was released
Significantly better web server performance

Remute user when they leave and rejoin

Many improvements for performance and some bug fixes

I identified and fixed a pretty big issue that was affecting stability of the bot over the holidays. I suspect that played a big part in the periods of downtime experienced.

Apparently, 8gb of ram is not enough to run half the bot during peak hours...
I've upgraded the secondary bot server running automod, action log, and other modules. This should keep essential modules such as action log and automod running well.

Quick Update

I'm a little late to announce that Dyno hit 60k servers Tuesday/Wednesday, and we're at 61k today! \o/
While releasing new features has been a bit slow lately, I've been doing a ton of work behind the scenes the past few weeks to work out many performance and stability issues, bug fixes, new things for features to come soon, and a couple promised services for donators.
I squashed a long standing bug with link cooldown, it works again!
I added an auto mute to automod that's not optional but is set to a high threshold mainly to prevent users from spamming your server and the automod at a high rate if auto mute is not enabled on a server. The rate is 10 automod violations in 30 seconds. Sorry that it's not optional or configurable, but we do allow a configurable auto mute, and this is really for the good of your server and Dyno performance.
The role command has been updated with additional options and sub-commands! see ?help role for a full list of options.
I've added more custom command variables/options that are currently undocumented, but will be documented the next time an update to the website is rolled out. They include {require:serverMod}, {require:Role Name} for making a command only work for server mods and/or a role. There's also now support for multiple commands in a custom command, and the {delete} variable can be used to delete the command.
A few things on deck to be released soon: Twitch/Hitbox/Beam notifications, Twitter notifications, Voice/Text channel binding, and more!
Many improvements related to music performance and servers for music streaming, give it a try! :)

If anyone is wondering why the purge command may not be working right now, Discord is not bulk deleting messages currently. Please be patient and wait for them to fix it. Also, no there's nothing we can do to fix this, and no we have absolutely no idea when it will be fixed. Probably not too long though.

Dyno 175,000+ Announcement

First and foremost, Dyno is now on 175,000+ servers!

It's been a busy few weeks, and even busier this past week. While we spent three weeks refactoring code with little outward progress and releases, there was a ton of work done behind the scenes. I will spare you the details on all of that, but just know that this was a big release!

My apologies for all of the permission issues that everyone has been experiencing. In theory everything should be back up to speed and working without a mess.

What was fixed and noted?

I wanted to post a quick update.

Dyno is now on 260,000 servers! 🎉
I've been updating and releasing things weekly and working on a lot behind the scenes, sometimes updates coming just days apart, so we've added the #325749526688301056 channel for those who want to know what's been changing.
More servers as usual! We need these to maintain growth and I've moved yet again to help support this!
For those who don't already know, Dyno Premium is now live!
Premium features higher speed and performance with better uptime, signficiantly shorter and less frequent downtimes, much quicker response times, unlimited song/play length, volume control, cleverbot, higher message caches for action logs, servers closest to your discord server region for higher quality and performance in text and audio.
We have several new modules planned for both Dyno and Premium that will be released in the coming days/weeks.
Some features dropping over the next couple weeks: Voice/Text channel linking, Stream notifications, Steam Module/Commands, Slowmode (Premium), Twitter Notifications (Premium), and several other minor features and additions which we'll announce as they're released.
Within the next week, Dyno's logo and avatar will be changing and around the same time, I'll be releasing a redesign of the website, where we will likely be moving to a new domain to be announced.

Dyno now leaves after an hour of playing music, just do ?play to continue. This is to stop those idling and using up resources.

Response Time Issue
Users may be experiencing longer than usual response times from Dyno.

One of the database servers ran out of disk space causing a failover to a secondary DB server which is under heavy load at the moment. This is causing higher than usual response times in Dyno and I am working to resolve the issue now.

Update

Dyno will be down for up to an hour and a half for some servers, it will return quicker for others. Please do not ask when it will be back online and don't bug staff.

The best way to know when it's back for you is to see in your server when it's online and responding to commands again.

Service Update

After further investigation, the network admins failed to save changes properly during a network upgrade on Friday causing a failure at the router level. This has been resolved and we've been assured that it should not happen again.

Dyno is currently restarting and should be back for everyone within 20 minutes.

Hey, we didn't give up on you guys. We are still awaiting our host to fix the issue and bring our voice servers online again. We are deeply sorry for the trouble.

If you still want to get your music fix during this outage, and get some other good stuff along with it, premium uses exclusive voice nodes and they are up and running as always!

~~Hey there, quick update on the downtime we are experiencing.

Last night, one of the upstream internet providers for the datacenter we host our services at performed maintenance on their service. This has been causing issues across the region, and is leading to instability in the network. Our services (particularly bots) are extremely sensitive to network fluctuations, so this instability has been causing many problems with Dyno.

We are working with the datacenter and upstream provider to get the issue resolved as soon as possible, but there’s only so much we can do, so we are waiting for them to fix the issue.

We appreciate your patience and apologize for any issues this has caused.~~

This issue has been fixed and Dyno is 100% back online and stable.

Unfortunately it seems someone is trying to use our name to trick people into inviting a bot that isn't a real Dyno. If you have received a DM like the ones below, be aware it is not true. Dyno has not been banned and we would never used mass DM's to send a message to our users. All official Dyno messages will be sent from the Dyno server. The DM could come from a bot called "Dyno Premium#3558" or with any other discrim.

The only real Dyno's you will see are:

Dyno#3861 - Dyno
Dyno#7532 - Premium
Dyno#0180 - Alpha

It was decided to pass on the Community Manager position to me. I will be taking over operations within the community. I whole heartedly look forward on continuing to work with Chip and everyone else on the Team, bringing forward a healthy and positive environment for everyone.
