I wanna decorate my strongholds and I am wondering how I easiest way possible get decorations. The GTN didn't seem like the best way since everything was too expensive.

Just doing the first missions to get a SH will grant you some free decos as well as where to find some quick and useful ones you need for a couple of credits at most
Certain Flashpoints drop some really nice decos depending what you’re looking for too, so you can look up what drops from where and farm some that go for quite a lot on the GTN only costing you a bit of time

Realistically the GTN / cartel market are the only way. This game is big on making you pay alot of decorating as everyone is rather interested in it
While you can do star fortress to get random decors each time or flashpoints to get some also it'll be very slow and grindy
