usually it means deconstructing crafted stuff to learn schematics for its better version, for example, you deconstuct green gear to learn the blue gear schematics, then you deconstruct blue to learn purple, purple to learn gold

make sure that you:

• see %% of success to learn new schematics on mouseover before you put an item/stack into the decon window
• decon items crafted by yourself (bought from gtn probably won't work, i'm not sure if you can fix it by adding your own stacks)
• don't put in the decon window more items that exceed "100%" to learn new schematics
