#Companion related questions

I've been playing about 2 weeks now, and I have some questions about companions (am up to Alderaan doing a Trooper Playthrough if that matters).

1: What is a good crew skill for F2P, and how do I use crew skills? I understand I'm limited to just 1 currently. I right now have it set as Armormech because I was hoping to create costumes for my character/companions. However, I cannot figure out how to do anything with this skill now. Could someone explain (or show me a guide) of how to utilize this skill in F2P?

2: I have collected 2 Discovery items, 1 for "Diplomacy/investigation" and the other for "scavenging/slicing". Are these related to the aforementioned armormech skills? I have not used either yet due to not wanting to waste them by mistake.

Thxs 😁

To actually make armors you need to first max out the level of your skill by crafting low level items or gathering items depending on the crewskill

Then you must begin to get the correct schematics to be able to make what you want. This is either gotten from other players of luck during crafting

Being F2P makes crewskills all but worthless too you. They not worth the time if limited to just one.

As for those other items. They related too other crew skills

Ah. So in general all of the items are useless?

a shame, but atleast I know not to use em until I subscribe in the future 🙂

any crafting skill requires materials obtainable from 1 gathering skill + 1 missions skill (+slicing for endgame gear)

for Armormech you need Scavenging and Underworld Trading, but f2p can learn only 1 crew skill, so you can
a) learn different skills on 3 alts
b) subscribe once and you'll have 2 skills per char after your sub expires + other nice unlocks (very convenient)
c) buy additional crew skill unlock (very expensive)
d) buy mats from the GTN

or if you don't plan to subscribe i think it's easier to learn any gathering skill instead of crafting, sell mats and buy armor from the gtn/ask people to craft and sell it if not presented on the gtn (if you play on Darth Malgus tell me what you need and your char name, i can craft almost anything except for retired schematics)

discovery items give you purple grade missions, if you have appropriate skills you can unlock and run those missions, otherwise just sell them on the gtn or store in your bank

I do also have the security key, so I could potentially save up cartel coins and just buy a 2nd skill

#

do the 2 other items relate to any of the gathering skills?

diplomacy/investigation are "missions" skills, they're less valuable than "gathering" scavenging/slicing

scavenging, archaeology, bioanalysis, and slicing mats will give you good money
slicing is kinda special, it's less valuable at low lvls, but very profitable at high lvl
the rest are good at any lvl

it'll give you 2 random missions, may be 2 scav, or 1 scav + 1 slicing, or 2 slicing
if you have spare space in you bank, you can store them, but they're not very valuable so you can sell them without regret

If planning on subscribing is the future, doing all gathering for now would be helpful. If you have the max 4 characters, you might even look to see what gathering skills feed into the crafting skills you want to use and have say 2 characters only gather and the other 2 do a mix of gathering and crafting. That way you are able to get to what you are after as well.
