I’ve been struggling with both ctr and general impressions on my channel, I don’t know if it’s an issue of content or thumbnails so to start I’d love to hear what you think of my thumbnails I use a bit of a formulaic style for my videos and would like to hear your thoughts

#

Generally I am just looking for some branding advice

Quick gut reaction is that the green border stuff on the thumbnail is making it wasted space and the channel logo needs some sort of black stroke maybe to make it pop out more so that's my instinctual feelings making the stuff that's in that weird border bigger so can see it better and making the logo more easy to see for your branding

I see what your saying, at least with the logo, I need background since my logo has negative space included and generally the border is meant to make the thumbnails a bit uniform across my channel but maybe I can trim it back, maybe reduce it to one corner, keep the uniformity but make less space taken

prisma saddle
#

Yeah it looks like the logo you're using a white glow effect? Which makes it kinda fade away and less visible

lime stump
#

It’s designed to have a neon glow but I’m seeing that the current design kinda loses that effect

prisma saddle
#

Also with that green border using the glow effect too it basically makes it harder to see doubly

#

They blend together too

lime stump
#

I’m seeing what you’re saying

#

You think a layout like this would work better?

#

Quick sketch

prisma saddle
#

That's probably better if you put the logo maybe on the left corner instead so they're not on top of each other

#

Then you don't have them blending together like that

lime stump
#

The purpose of having the bricks in the first place to have it looking like a bar sign or movie poster so I’d like to keep them together

#

But maybe if I have the logo fully on the brick I can fix that

prisma saddle
#

Hmm yeah that could work if you make it slightly bigger

#

The brick part

lime stump
prisma saddle
#

Yeah so then the glows aren't competing with each other and blending into each other and then you aren't wasting all that other space like your current thumbnails, can make the inside portion bigger so people can see the detail better

lime stump
#

Thanks man

prisma saddle

Hope it helps 👍

Yeah, I just wanted people to instantly be able to recognize one of my videos as one of mine which is why I put the border to begin with but I’m seeing I overdid the design a bit now

#

My videos did get an boost in views a bit since I did that but I think that’s also just cause I’m putting more work into the thumbs

#

For a while my only thumbnails were the game splash art without edits

prisma saddle
#

Sounds like you're making progress, that's good. I did major in art in college and took a bunch of art/graphic design in high school so I try to look at it from an artists perspective

#

But also the thumbnails you have a small space to work with so you can't waste space need to maximize it best you can

lime stump
#

Yeah I think the new design will help with that

the let's play niche is basically impossible to get into and it's also not a niche that lends itself well for making good thumbnails

#

you also basically haven't developed any youtube skills at all
at least learn editing first

lime stump
#

Unfortunately other niches don’t hold much draw for me so this is what I’m doing

merry kelp
#

well, you kinda have to put in the effort to develop your skills first
it's not just the niche that's holding you back
you're still just at square one when it comes to your skills

Ok do you have a recommendation on guides for YouTube editing using davanci?

#

That id be able to apply in realtime without slowing my content consistency?

Like it doesn't matter how consistent you are or if you upload less because you're just never going to grow if you don't even have these basic skills yet

#

Like I want to emphasize that to be successful on youtube, it requires effort and dedication on your part to independently research, practice, and develop the skills necessary to make a youtube video

prisma saddle
#

@merry kelp that's a good video for sure I used that one and a few others when I first started

merry kelp
#

yknow what's funny
I don't think I ever actually followed any of these full beginner tutorials for davinci or any editor for that matter

#

I've always felt that it's better to learn hands on because you can't really develop proficiency with your software without actually using it a bunch

#

ofc that might not be true for everyone

#

but there is a reason why tutorial hell is a common occurence for beginners

prisma saddle
#

I spent like 16+ years using mostly premier pro, but in the very beginning probably like windows movie maker and whatever the apple video editing software was. Also used to do macro media flash in the beginning and Adobe flash too when they bought it so I have been familiar. I used the tutorial more so because davinci was kinda not what I was used to with premier pro

#

If you've never edited before definitely try to just play around and have fun with it, and reference the tutorial when you get lost or dunno what to do. I just think that tutorial was good for helping me get acquainted with davinci resolve

I learned the basics from this.

You don't need to follow the whole tutorial. You can stop before the video gets into "Cut Page" (around 1 hour 13mins mark).
Once you have some sorts of basics this is a good next stepping stone
