#Be honest- do I need a new mic?

All my vids have an audience retention that looks like the one below. I worry it’s because they hear my mic isn’t perfect and then bail. I currently record audio on my headset, plug it into Adobe Podcast, and get the final result. Do I need a new mic? Or do I need to fix some other issue?

Video example with AR below: Movie Trailers Matter.

I like movies. Movie trailers get me hype for them. But sometimes I keep coming back to trailers even years later... why is that? Let's talk about it.

28 Years Later by Sony Picture Entertainment Studios: https://www.youtube.com...

  1. watched your video, gotta say quite good in terms of a video essay. like the humor and mood 2) that retention isnt good but isnt bad - its up to you what you think is good and bad. compared to some i would say its good 3) i think your mic is perfectly fine but i noticed some clips are slightly louder than others. when you edit try to make sure the db level stays the same. i know davanci and adobe premiere has a tool that makes everything (audio wise) the same level.

  1. if you think your audio is bad, experiment with obs and the filters, but i wouldnt focus all the attention on just strictly audio, focus some on making good content. just know that retention is based on keeping the audience ENGADED, theres different methods you can use.....also compared to your earlier videos your audio HAS improved.

Wow dude, really appreciating the in depth feedback there. I am working on it and have done some tweaking on OBS and have a ways to go. Maybe I just need some practice with my writing and tone to engage them more.

My main worry is that I hear more retention = more watch time = more views since the algorithm pushes the video out more (and as you can see my views have been 10-20 per vid)

I only started this two months ago, but any feedback is helping me on the ground floor- so seriously thank you for taking a look it means a lot

I mean, your audio isn't perfect, but personally I don't think it's bad either. Not enough for people to click off the video solely due to the audio.

Personally I thought it was a solid video.

If you don't mind, could you look at your analytics and look at how many impressions you got + your CTR

I feel like this is a video I would have clicked on if I saw it in my recommended so maybe you just aren't being recommended very heavily.

#

your average view duration doesn't have very many data points to draw from.

#

my view alone will probably boost it by a few percentage points lol.

Hey I just watched this, I don't think it has anything to do with your mic.

First I think this needs YouTube chapters, it helps because sometimes and instead of clicking off maybe I could have clicked to a different part of the video to keep my attention.

Second, I was confused that your video was pretty good quality but didn't really have much views I think that's due to the lack of maybe SEO related stuff like the video barely a description of what's it's about. Stuff like that helps YouTube know who to give this video too. Potentially reupload your thumbnail with a description of the video as well if you haven't already.

Overall, I would look that up and work getting better because the video was great, if it had chapters I definitely think it would be quite an easy viewing experience.
