i noticed my videos had garbage view times and wanted to improve that.
Can you give me some improvement ideas?

Okay so let me say some things

  1. you are very monotone, you have a nice voice but its very flat there doesn’t seem to be any sound of excitement or joy, it sounds like you are bored yourself. So try to be a bit more enthusiastic, this doesn’t mean shout, just make the way your words sound more interesting

  2. the visuals themselves are quite dull, not saying the game is boring but you hang onto scenes for a little too long sometimes

  3. it’s 1:50 but the outro starts at 1:20 meaning your video only has 1:30 of content, people like seeing a little more. If you update people on every little thing you do, then ofc some updates are going to be more mundane. My tip, update people when you make several changes, and big ones, that way you always have something interesting to talk about

  4. its a part 2 video, people will be like “oh let me watch part 1” then when then come to this video thats when points 1-3 happen

So all in all your major issue is you sound monotonous which in turn makes it sound boring. And your content has no depth to it, its all very surface level. So to fix it

  1. practice saying your words with emphasis

  2. post longer videos with bigger game updates. focus on releasing good quality content, 1 very good 15 minute video with lots of interesting things will do better than 15 kinda boring 1 minute videos.

Hope this helps

As someone who is "sorta in this space", ill add a little to this. I'd go further and say , the video ends at 0:57 seconds in. No one needs to see "what your plans are" in a powerpoint-like presentation in a youtube video. And the outtro as stated, is filler, which will destroy your retention.

I initially planned on my channel being a dev log channel for my software. I immediately changed course bec of how difficult it can be. No one really cares about "what you are going to do". They want to see "what it can do now". So my channel is now much more interactive, and I removed the dev log style a long time ago. On YouTube, people want to be entertained, or educated.

That would be MUCH more interesting, esp if your audience is more technical

velvet schooner
#

And i want technical people to be atracted

median elm
#

i guarantee you that no one watched your outro, or cares about the outro, i think that mainly destroyed your avd.

Tbh i clocked out during the outro

#

Its "no offense" , the issue is, the outro has no significance to the video

velvet schooner
#

I need to remove this historic piece of my channel 😦

#

It is gonna be for the better

median elm
#

I dont know your channel's history, which means, your viewers also dont know the history

#

You used to be a robot channel?

The outro needs to do two things

  1. wrap up the video, quick summary

  2. quickly let the audience know what you will do next, not in a powerpoint slide way

velvet schooner
#

Next devlog will be better

#

After i improve my spagetti ah code that is

#

I mean it works

#

But flextape

median elm
#

That's fine! show them the spaghetti code, but tell them what makes it " a mess". thats part of the entertainment and educational aspects

hasty phoenix
#

You could do a quick before and after scene with it such as a “This was the code before i cleaned it” and “This is it now” and you can go over a few major changes that you did

median elm
#

I also want to give you some positives.....I was legitimiately interested in your video, while you were showing your game

#

bec of the "cool" factor. I was asking myself...wow, you really made this?

velvet schooner
#

I think i should add like a 3 second or less waring on the video that its technical

#

Cuz ppl outside of tech will not care about me cleaning my code up

median elm
#

That's something you have to experiment with

velvet schooner
#

But is it a bad idea

median elm
#

Make the video for the audience you want

velvet schooner
#

Will youtube match my content to the right audience?

hasty phoenix
median elm
#

I think if you are changing an audience, you dont want to "notify your subs"

#

it depends on who your current subs are, and what you are aiming for

hasty phoenix
#

YouTube’s algorithm is extremely good, it will find the people but its up to you whether those people click and stay on the video

velvet schooner
median elm
#

Then you have a good head start

velvet schooner
#

But idk about their interest in game sev

median elm
#

If they are tech, i think showing code isnt a bad idea, just make it easy to follow

median elm
#

like you mention a bug where the item falls into the ground, would be cool if you clarified what caused that

velvet schooner
#

I think i will be able to transfortm my code in like under 2 hours

median elm
#

you will figure it out eventually tho to fix the bug, it could be a video idea for you

velvet schooner
#

If i wont be able to ill make it a feature

#

And like add some cool mechanic to if

median elm
#

lol, you'll get it

velvet schooner
#

If it is on godot engine i am cooked

median elm
#

ahh

#

fair

#

submit the issue

velvet schooner
#

It is probablt with me tho

median elm
#

or , there may be a workaround

velvet schooner
#

Or maybe an item shouldnt be characterbody2d

median elm
#

Either way i think what you are doing is really cool.....you should test a 5 minute video, explain you are using the godot engine, and go thru your thought process on how you started the game

#

test the waters

#

see if ppl are interested in the details

#

dev logs are boring, but going thru the engineering process is super fun
