What is wrong with my video (Minecraft Hardcore content)

There are a few things i could point out but these things are in no way attacks on your video

  • hardcore is over done now. There are reasons why but look at thrite, he died in a hardcore series and ppl begged him to stop doing hardcore, they care abt the content.
  • you should have started from the beginning if your playthrough imo.
  • the idea of updates every episode isnt a bad concept however your spin doesnt come into play till the next video, meaning viewers are essenially watching a 1.0 playthrough, in most other minecraft videos, the spin is either ever present or quickly being built to within the first half of the video.
  • another point which is VERY unfairly tilted against you is the audience expectations, most people expect what you did in 10mins to be summed up in 3-5mins apart of a 45-60min video that had either fully updated or atleast got to 1.11 if your not willing to commit to something like that it is MORE than understandable but try re-inventing the wheel, be efficent with what you can do

But ultimately this video is from a small channel that has only recently uploaded. If youve heard what alot of other youtubers do they makes tons of videos before they stick (ofc ppl do it in less and you could be included) so if you have faith in your formula stick to it and improve it.

I agree with a lot of the points Accord said - I haven't watched the video yet - but I want to say I think the idea is actually really good. It reminds me of a like group survival series I watched when I was a kid, except obviously it is just you, but I think it is a great idea!

I stopped at 22 seconds. I felt like the intro was a tad quiet. Then at 14 sec when you say "today that changes" your recording changes. then goes back to what we had before.

  • Normalize your volume - this makes the entire sound of the video be the same. Be careful here though, cause it can make it sound worst.
  • "I've been playing Minecraft for 13 years..." as your starting line isn't a hook. I'm going to assume you scripted this. If so, anytime you write a sentence, ask yourself two things: Why should someone else care? Who says you are the person I need to watch do this playthrough?

I don't know Minecraft, at all. But just by reading Accord's feedback, I already know Hardcore mode has been done. So. What can you do while playing on Hardcore mode that adds to that? Is there a goal you can do in the most inefficient way possible? Is there a time limit to get to a goal? Can you build something specific that no one else has? Or from materials no one would think to choose? These are hooks. What can you do that no one else has done, even if by the nature of doing that thing, is the wrong way to do it?

#

when you can say: That is outlandish / improbable - you have a good hook

#

when you can say: I don't think anyone has tried that - you have a better hook

#

when you can say: Why would anyone do it this way? That's a GREAT hook in my opinion.

#

the WHY is the best hook. If you can get more people asking WHY - your gameplay videos will be so much better. Get that WHY in the title / thumb nail. You need people asking that before they even hear you. Then, that is your first line "Why [topic] - I found out, and you won't believe what happened!"

#

now, not only am I hooked to find out why, but I know there's a payoff here

#

THEN go into background, what got you here. If you've ever seen any movie that does; "I bet you're asking how I got here." ( check the first 10 sec of Hi Fi Rush's trailer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-2TR7_k8mE )

IGN

From Tango Gameworks, the developers of The Evil Within comes something completely different. Hi-Fi Rush is a cel-shaded rhythm action game where your moves help create a living soundtrack.

it's totally a trope, but it's one way to spin from your question to, ok, this is how I got the idea

#

This, I feel like, is the energy you are trying to go for when you're saying "Today, That changes"

#

it's very "inciting incident" and I feel like I am missing why this is the inciting incident a bit. I think I know why now. It's not the words, it's the energy

#

think of this like a roller coaster for a second

#

"Today that changes" I should be ready to go down the biggest hill and be EXCITED

#

but you gotta build up to that

#

part of it lands flat cause I don't have that excitement.

#

also; by having "Today that changes" RIGHT at the beginning, I now know the rest of this video is just going to be highlights of that adventure

#

do not give an answer to a question, without setting up a new question to answer later - wrap up answers by the end

#

if you were determined to stay on a Hardcore playthrough with no other meat... I'd suggest looking through the clips and find THE BEST ONE

#

that is your LAST clip

#

But, I HIGHLY recommend finding a way to add stakes to this adventure. Some goal you can reach, but is unlikely or a goal that seems really silly to try to do or to do in a way that is really silly.

#

I'm circling now so I'll stop there. TL;DR

  • WHY should I click?
  • Stakes! Get us invested!
  • Best for Last - Your answer to the first question is at the end.
  • The journey to get there. Increment each step until you get to the climax. I want to be excited to go down this hill when we're about to get the answer

a lot of the advice here (plus more that hasn't been brought up so far) you would have noticed yourself if you paid attention to how other big creators choose the type of videos they make as well as how they make them. So yea just try to take into account the wider array of content out there and how you might be able to make your video fit into what people want.

plus lack of background music, especially at the start, is very bad. Music is a very overlooked part of videos that is very important to get right. I also make minecraft videos, and I use shazam to find the songs other creators are using, as well as looking at describtion for credits, or just asking around in discord. A lot of the time i can't find the music though so it's just part of the process.
