I'm looking for feedback on the entire video and specifically when and why you stopped watching.

Thanks in advance!

Howdy @ionic crag - I hope you're doing well today. ๐Ÿ‘‹

While I'm happy to share my feedback, I should point out that I don't typically watch these types of videos. (My normal genres are gaming / reality tv stuff, so this is pretty outside my normal digs.) ๐Ÿ˜…

On that note, here's a few thoughts:

  • Your thumbnails are polished, and your editing is really snappy and quick. It's clear that you're putting in a lot of work on this, and I just wanted to say that what you've produced already looks wonderful. ๐Ÿ‘

  • Per your request, I stopped watching around the five minute mark, but that's not due to any fault of the video / editing -- I'm sure if these types of videos were my jam I'd have been hooked the whole way through.

With that in mind, here's what I think might be an opportunity to improve:

  • Looking at other successful "repair" style videos on YouTube (screenshots), it looks like they're using thumbnails that draw the audience in with dramatic images or questions to pique their interest.

  • In the case of the first video, we see a nail and think, "woah .. is that actually fixable??" and in the second, we might think, "is it really possible to turn a broken 20$ phone into something worth 2,000$?"

For me personally, I think those types of images pique our natural curiosity, and we want to learn more so we click. ๐Ÿ–ฑ๏ธ

Thanks man I really appreciate you've taken the time to look at it! especially if it's not like the normal videos you consume!
I'm glad to hear I'm on the right track, really appreciate your input.

I'm not sure what these repair channels try to do but having a screw in a camera? looks to me like something they did on their own.. I don't think that's a genuine 'fix' in that regard! The other one looks more to be towards making money.. which is fine but it's not the point of my vids, for me it's more the struggle of mine.

For my channel I'm more looking into being mix of repair channels for 'serious' stuff and then integrate some fun in it like those crazy engineers are doing (think of micheal reeves, william osman, backyard scientist.. etc. etc.) where it's all about the story and finding the answer...... The only thing I'm not doing which both have is .... I don't show my head.. which gives me some disadvantages as most of the repair videos that are kind of popular have an actual person behind it (in the thumbnails I mean), like

I do think I need to work on my thumbnails and titles though! so good catch on that one

I wouldn't be too in your head about not showing your head~~

(See what I did there?) ๐Ÿ˜‚ Oh god I'm so old .... rofl

I've always heard that until a person has a large audience, it's the iconography (the imagery of the thing itself) that draws people in to watch, not a face they don't know.

true! true! It's just a disadvantage for thumbnails because I have rome for... something...else... I gues..... lol

I think you're off to a freaking incredible start!

the 2 that I showed are (now) well established guys so that's why showing their face works as it's just easier to pick up on the videos in your feed I guess ๐Ÿ™‚

Feel free to hit me up if you ever want a sanity check / another pair of eyes on a thumbnail. (I'm happy to help in whatever way I can.) ๐Ÿค

Cut through the video several times, but that is entirely because the topic bores the living crap out of me. Overall I estimate I watched a good 2 or 3 mins in total and from what I saw it looked good, I mean with the cuts and speed ups and fx's here and there, looking like most decent videos that cover these types of diy fix subjects etc.

Well that is the million dollar question

I think its rare nowadays to find people that will watch something like this just out of curiousity, most will probably watch if they get lured in by some financial gain aspect or some very click baity thumbnail as I think someone mentioned earlier.

Personally I would prefer a very FAST cut to the point edit, while yours is pretty well done, in todays short attention span world I would try to cut it down even more, leave out all hums, and hms, and mumblings, just down to the point robotic and then fast cut edits that follow. Everything needs to be time compressed.

So ye, those are my final thoughts.
