#I'm curious how those of you with gaming channels gather your footage

I've been doing two different methods to gather footage for gaming videos, but I'm curious how everyone else does it. Sometimes I'll record entire sessions and then later go through the recordings for clips to use in a video. But other times I'll specifically record gameplay that works for my video in question.

I'm curious how everyone goes about this process. For example I recently have captured pretty much an entire playthrough of cyberpunk 2077. But that's like 70 hours of gameplay. The idea of going through all of that to pick out 10 minutes of video sounds daunting and not practical lol.

What do you want the footage for?

It depends. Sometimes I'll do game reviews, sometimes I'll try and create something more specific. I've found if I'm doing something more generic, then any clips tend to work.

But usually when I'm doing something more specific I find myself playing a game with the intention of getting a specific clip

I read a tip on the subreddit to clap into the mic after something happens that you want to clip. I setup OBS to record 2 separate audio tracks, one for game audio and one for mic. Then in the editor, you'll see spikes in the mic audio. This way you don't have to scrub through hours and hours of gameplay footage. I just started doing this and its already helpful

I record everything then watch it back at 1.5-2x speed

And pick out the good parts

For me it usually depends on the focus of the video, if it’s a playthru/lets play (to which I record it all and clip/edit significant bits), if it’s more so a specific clip or bit, I’ll record only that bit if I can anticipate the moment coming.

Not sure if that makes sense. I usually use Action! to record off my PC, as well as the free DaVinci Resolve to edit.
