I have been working on this video for a good while. Unfortunately the recorded footage could have been more crisp due to a missing setting in my recording software which I realised when I already shot all the footage... The quality is still good enough to be enjoyable. Please let me know your honest thoughts. Thank you in advance ❤️

#Made my first ''real'' snowboarding montage. Please share your honest thoughts

Assuming the image above is your thumbnail, I’m a huge fan of the base image but I cant read the words at all (the gold especially).
Recommend spreading it out so its readable and consider if the colors blend too mcub with the background
It is my thumbnail. It might be a little hard to read but it actually says Shredders too. Its one of the official art assets of the game and their logo. Anyone that is not familiar with the logo will probably have a hard time reading it, but I think without context the word Shredders is bad regardless if I want to attract people that are not familiar with the game already. Thanks for the feedback. I was planning on making a better thumbnail. Probably best to actually communicate that this video is a snowboarding montage rather than have the logo on there 😛
Oh thats the other part, I actually thought from your thumb that this was a real life montage of you/someone snowboarding.
So the base image is great cause it looks so realstic but it definitely needs to be communicated better through thumb/title that its a video game montage. Otherwise you may have a bunch of folks like me clicking to watch a snowboarding montage only to realize it’s a video game.
Nah thats exactly what I want lol
Its not really a clickbait, but sort of
Ive pretty much watched almost every Shredders montage out there and some of them are incredible but they get no views whatsoever. So Im trying to change up the strategy
Thank you for the feedback regardless 🙂
Unless a person that does not care about videogames whatsoever would click the video it would be a bad thing, but my guess is that most people who like snowboarding would also have an interest in watching footage from a snowboarding game. Especially one that is build from the ground up to be realistic
and also made by pro snowboarders
A few things!
At 1:08-1:10 it seemed like the contrast was super bright to where you couldn't really see anything. With snow already being white and bright it confused me, as I thought there was at least a transition during that but there wasn't.
There's a lot of random edits that don't really make sense
Also I would recommend using way less POV's. There POV's were all over and didn't really fit a theme
Finally looking at the thumbnail I thought it was real snowboarding and I couldn't read the font. Also with the use of "snowboarding" and "tricks" hashtags it'll push towards people who want to see real life snowboarding, which will tank your AVD and overall trust.
Just some things I noticed!
Yeah this is exactly what I was saying @boreal flame. Your thumb is misleading and could lead to dislikes as well
Yeah the edit on 1:08 is a bit of a flop I agree 😛 But it was supposed to be some sort of flashbang effect if you will. Guess I should have left it out. Which random edits dont make sense? And what sense are they supposed to make other than be visually pleasing? I thought the POV clips were rather cool as the montages Ive checked for inspiration (almost all of them I guess XD) didnt use it at all. What do you mean with them not fitting the theme? They are switchups from the drone camera to POVs showing off the same line. The hashtags tip is good, but unfortunately there are very few relevant hashtags to use so I still think these are my best bet. It is snowboarding after all. The thumbnail uses art assets from the official game, other than the font I think thats just an interpretation I cant really change. Im working on a new thumbnail with clearer text. Thanks for the feedback
It really doesnt look anything like a real picture to me, but I suppose that is because I know what it is exactly. Any ideas on hashtags that would be relevant?
To give some reference as to which thumbnails other ppl use for their shredders montages if you browse those is there any that seems really good to You? https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=shredders+montage
Holy crap all the thumbnails suck you have a really big opportunity here lol
hahaha I figured youd say something like that
so yeah I took my inspiration from sucky thumbnails
I think I get what you're saying with that some of the POVs dont fit the theme that well
I just thought they look cool but other than the ones at the end where it switches back from POV to drone to POV are somewhat random
but they require more context just randomly showing a POV shot that doesnt transition well from the previous shot might be a bad idea
@daring mauve Better?
Yeah it's better than the original one
What does it look like with like red instead of the green?
Or whatever Shredders branding color usually is
red seemed a bit to intimidating thats what I started with
the branding color would be yellow I guess
But I wanted to derive from all the other color schemes
and when put next to all the other thumbnails I just showed this one stands out
Im not sure about the diagonal text placement
I'm a fan of the first thumb.
I would not worry about misleading your audience with "real" vs "game" content
Dropn the text
You don't really need any text if you do your title right
The second thumb is worse in every way to me
And there's a subtle difference between "click-bait" and "click-worthy"
You aren't claiming to be creating live snowboarding
So who cares how your thumbs look if they are sourced from the game?
Pro tip, get Nvidia Ansel to really up your in-game Screencaps for thumbnails
If you have a compatible card that is
What is this?
Thanks for the feedback ❤️ My stance was alongside your thoughts but its always good to hear multiple people's perspectives
I mean there is a lot of subjectivity to it after all
I do think the first thumbnail is way cleaner
and I am not exactly trying to bait 10 year olds in clicking my video
with a ''flashy'' thumb
rather keep it neat and clean like the first
Ansel is a powerful screenshotting tool made by Nvidia alongside game devs
I messed up the recordings anyways because I was recording with a constant bitrate of 6kbs
It let's you take pictures normally not possible
changed to CQR and its looking a lot more crisp now
Nice I will have a look at it 🙂
👍
You can even take HDR pictures, and x25 the resolution to something absurd
But the big thing is being able to do really helpful things, like removing in-game models to get the best shot possible
It uses AI?
I think my favorite tool in Ansel is the adjustable Depth of Field
Nope
It uses good old fashioned game engine hooks and post processing
and by pictures you mean a static image right? or can it also enhance recording footage?
Just the screenshot
It's actually rendering the screenshot for one frame on the GPU buffer
It's as good as you can get for upscaling
The tool was designed before NVIDIA went all in on AI
So it's not trying to do things via AI
Because it was before RTX came out. Pure CUDA power
Awesome thanks for the knowledge, looking into it this seems like something I'd def be using for future projects 😄
For sure - is one of the best tools I know of for video game content creators for sourcing thumbs
Play around with it, it's kinda fun 😁
Hey just to make sure that I am not crazy but the video quality in this second montage is a lot more crisp. right? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1xrUuN3wvk
Shredders is such a fantastic snowboarding game! I really should have given it the time and love it deserves. I think I can say that I'm finally starting to get decent at the game :). Hopefully it shows in this second montage.
Let me introduce you to a world of perfect snowy vibes. I proudly present to You: Below Zero: A shredders snowboarding ...
Im still working on a good thumb ~_~
Yes I used CQP to record the clips for this one, but I am not sold about it being that much more crisp
Also the filesize is about 4 times as large
What settings did you use?
CQP using x264 is great at 18-16 range
Nearly indistinguishable from native
Filesize will be larger, because it shoves as much bitrate as it needs to maintain a constant quality
Hence Constant Quality Profile
With that said, there's almost no reason to keep your raw footage if the only purpose is to post youtube content, because YouTube will compress it anyway
Just upload the raw footage as unlisted content to store if you need later for b-roll
And delete it from your HDD
@feral rune Yeah this is exactly how Im going about it. I also have 1TB cloud storage so I can store things there. I used the NVIDIA x264 (new) encoder with a CQP level of 17
And upon giving it some more time and comparing again to the older footage recorded on constant bitrate I can clearly see the difference in quality
FIlesize is indeed gigantic especially when recording fast moving frames
I made some 10-20 second clips of fast paced Rocket League and theyre around 300mb each 😮
Thanks again for the help ❤️ !
If you want a better file size, AV1 is the answer. But that has its own drawbacks
Do I have to install something for that to show up under streamlabs / OBS? I have seen several people recommend MKV, what exactly are the drawbacks and how much smaller would the filesize be?
