#Redesigning ALL the thumbnails, total "rebrand". Looking for your opinions on the direction!

Not a big fan of the second picture of you, I don’t think you have to put your face in the thumbnails tho
Looking at your thumbnails and titles a couple notes
First don’t put text in the bottom right corner that’s gonna get cut off and it will look bad when it does
Titles should be shorter ideally below 55 characters, or else they will be cut off as you can see
When looking at tutorials I want to see the final result that I am being taught, you’re definitely doing better by showing the final result in the new thumbnails but I think that should be the main focus. I feel like a lot of the other elements are taking away from that
With that said you know your audience better than I do just some thoughts
Are you referring to the "Marvel" logo?
RE: putting my face in the thumbnails, I recently posted other versions without my face and someone commented the exact opposite saying I should have my face in them haha. Guess it's a bit of a personal preference thing.
And yeah I've been trying to have text a bit more out of the way of the corner, but can shift it more or move it around to another spot.
I've been doing my titles at 70 characters or less as everyone seems to suggest that for length as that's the max on desktop I believe. I try to get most of the important/catching stuff at the beginning of the title, but can reduce them even more if that's "better". Just hard to fit what the video is about sometimes with 70 characters even.
Agreed on the tutorial comment, I've been trying to show more of the end result in the thumbnails, though also sometimes feel like the "final reveal" needs to be kept veiled, depending on the type of tutorial it is...but yeah more often than not, it seems to be the better approach.
What do you think of the colour scheme/fonts? Been trying to stick to a specific "theme" to create some consistency
I do feel like they're at least a good step up from what I currently have. Been trying to use less text in my thumbnails, have some more dominating images of what the video is about, more consistent use of colours, etc.
Works with Adobe Photoshop, Affinity Photo, Canva, and more! This PSD file includes a Desktop and Mobile overlay pack with rounded corner overlays, timecode, rule of thirds, and center play button. Watch the tutorial video here: https://youtu.be/iLdoKBCoM2s
This is helpful
I’ve never heard 70 characters personally, and the biggest screen is mobile afaik so that’s what I would optimize for, you know your audience though so maybe it’s all desktop for you
The face thing is meh, once you grow an audience it can help you because that’s an element people can recognize but at this point I would let your work speak for itself UNLESS it adds
Ignore the torn down 3D printer
What I mean is your most viewed videos that adds, the emotion on your face helps convey the stories. In a lot of your new thumbnails I feel like your face is just kinda there
You can definitely veil the final result, it just depends what you’re doing
If it’s a step by step tutorial you’re asking me to choose your stuff over other peoples so I will look at view count final result and like to dislike ratio comments etc
If it’s more personality based like “the most complicated paint job yet” you could def blur it, maybe you with red eyes from no sleep, and then a tuner that says 24 hrs or soemthing that kind of thing
Ok cool, makes sense, I'll try to adjust some of them removing the face where it feels most "unnecessary".
And yeah I've read 70 characters online a LOT but maybe it has changed, maybe they're bad sources of info, no idea, just hear 70 characters more than anything but will try and tighten these up.
RE: the palette/fonts, what do you think in that regard? Going for a fun/poppy vibe.
Thanks for the tips!
Just found this site...not sure if it's still "up to date" but if so, it will be very handy for redoing my titles...
On fonts and palette I don’t think you should focus too much on that at this stage
Honestly I feel like you’re putting a lot of effort into this that could be spent making content
With that said I don’t like the font personally
I like Ryan Trahan type fonts personally and basic less busy thumbnails
A good example of these for your niche may be nerdforge, the great thing about youtube is the answers are already out there, you can see what works and copy. I don’t think I’ve ever watched a video that looks like your thumbnails especially with that font and color scheme, but that’s also just me, I’m not your target audience.
Hope that helps
