Does the short intros I just added in my video first time bothers anyone, or it does add to the experience? also does the first few seconds of music loops play well?

a vaporwave music video with pixel art style

hmm
any idea how can I make a balance between both?

Depends on your style they may be willing to take the slight retention drop

I want it feels like an old glitched found footage of something

You should see some of my intros, some of them absolutely break every rule about what creators are "supposed to do" xD

#

just because they break the rules, you can still keep high retention if it's done well

#

250K views, 75%/30 seconds and I don't speak at all for half of that which is supposed to be a big nono

#

This is getting into really dangerous territory but 70%/30 seconds and I don't speak at all for the first 42 seconds (55K views)

#

you're always gonna see that in long form videos with thousands of views

#

70%+ retention in anything longer than 5 minutes is good

I don't try to be as risky anymore, but I still do unconventional openings because i have a knack for it and the retention charts don't lie, but if you can get a 70%+/30s retention on a video whatever you're doing is good

#

I just think since Big John is doing something very unconventional, can't really hurt to go all in on the aesthetic if it's done correctly

#

ofc the hard part is doing it correctly, but that's something that's learned with experience and practice

thanks for your honest opinions

I was thinking about a 3D glitched logo as well
still trying to learn the blender

Intros are bad

#

Don't do them

hardy lance
#

tho @merry rampart should know to never really trust any advice you get 100%, everything i say, and everyone else here says tends to be anecdotal unless backed up with evidence. But when you're a small channel you can experiment with stuff however you like and it's not really ever gonna shadow ban your content or do anything permanently irreversible

merry rampart
#

sure let me find it

I see that now

But I still think they're bad

#

Its not worth a 20 percent drop in retention

hardy lance
#

And if it doesn't work out, John can just drop it

grand valley
#

He should try

And with the YT editor you can even remove it afterwards if it doesn't really work out

#

If Big John was doing almost anything else I'd say absolutely don't do the intro but niches are niches :)

#

As a larger channel Im still able to experiment, but it takes a lot more time for the algorithm to shift an audience of 50,000 then say, 100

#

a few weeks/ month maybe if I drastically shift content

#

Yeah, Im actually about to do a major niche shift as well, although I've already been preparing my audience to enjoy my content less for minecraft and more for my style of video

merry rampart
#

the discord wont let me to upload it here (it's 8mbs) where else I can upload the opening?

#

alright

# merry rampart isn't it with the danger of shadowban for bigger content creators like you?

Big content creators scream shadow ban when they stop making content people want to watch, or more often their audience grows out of their niche, you saw it with a lot of those old Minecraft youtubers that got really big in 2012, the ones that went to Fortnite did perfectly fine while the ones that didn't change their content died, makes sense if you think about it

#

Huge channels with millions of subscribers do need to take a channel shift a lot slower though, they need to accommodate their audience because going cold turkey with the algorithm finely tuned for millions or 10s of millions of people is going to hurt real bad

#

This is why its way more common for youtubers to just make a second or third channel

#

that way you can accommodate two separate niches and not deal with the algorithm shock or whatever

does the link works?

thanks 🙂
