#People say my content is good, but I don't know how to market myself.

Hi there, I recently launched my new channel a week ago and have 51 subscribers, 450 views, and 16 hours of watch time. A decent portion of these are due some some reddit self-promotion. While not bad, I was hoping to grow my channel significantly faster.

Based on feedback I've gotten, my content seems to be fairly well-liked. Friends and new viewers enjoy the content, and all my videos so far have a ~50% retention rate, give or take a few percentage points. However, YouTube isn't recommending my content to new people as much as I'd like.

I'm sure there are improvements I can make to my titles and thumbnails, and I hope to do so. However, the biggest problem is that YouTube is recommending my worst video the most. So far, my latest video has nearly 1000 impressions, 5/6ths of the entire channel, but only a 3.5% click through rate. 2 of my other videos have a 10% CTR, and one has 30% which is insane! But YouTube just isn't recommending them.

Does anybody have any advice as to how I can shift which videos get impressions? Thank you!

I would say the low CTR on that video is because of how many more impressions it has gotten and/or the title/thumbnail is unusually weak compared to your other videos.

YouTube isn't going to instantly start pushing out your content in the recommended feed, and self promo of a specific video is the only way I know of to shift impressions to certain videos.

I am also going to advise against doing too much self-promo on reddit as unless you are doing it through reddit ads as it is generally frowned upon and could result in an account ban if done to the extreme: https://www.reddit.com/wiki/selfpromotion/

If I were in your position I would be very satisfied to have the numbers you are getting already.

Thanks. I'm aware about reddit's rules, and I definitely don't want all my viewers to be from there. But it can help to give a boost from time to time.

I know I'm selectively picking, but it's frustrating to see channels with a similar level of quality get picked up by the algorithm in just one or two videos. I feel like there must be something I'm missing, but I don't know what.

Could you dm me your channel so I could look at it and better answer your question?

Private your worst video then! If you feel like your bad videos (or video) is what's hindering your growth, then definitely private it so YT stops recommending it.

It's also possible that you might think is your worst video in your opinion, isn't the worst video in the algorithm (otherwise, it wouldn't recommend it). If you don't have quite a few videos though, it might just be picking out of very few options.

But, yeah-- if you think it's a bad video, just hide it. YT will have to pick another video to suggest.
