#Suggestion to integrate a new channel to the server.

Dear Marching Band Discord Staff,

Hello, my name is Sky, and I would like to make a suggestion that I think can really benefit this server. I believe if a debate channel were to be integrated into this server, it would benefit it in many ways, including but not limited to helping solve topic issues in a calm, collected, and respectful manner. It would also give people the chance to have friendly debates with people that may have different opinions on things.

I understand that this could create tension and arguments within the server, so I have come up with ways to solve these issues. Issues that could pop up are very controversial topics, like political views and politics in general, which I believe you could create rules that people must abide by while debating to leave these debate topics out of the server entirely. I believe a good way to enforce the rules is that if they break a rule in the debate channel, they get permanently banned from speaking in the channel, and depending on if they break an actual server rule, they get punished for that as well. Doing this could keep people from starting arguments and keep it respectful.

This is why I believe you should add a debate channel to the server and a good way to make sure it would stay respectful and peaceful at all times. I believe you should make a trial period, and if too many outbreaks happen, you would cancel it and not integrate it into the server. The creation of said channel could really make it easier for people to communicate in a respectful way without it seeming argumentative. This is my opinion on the topic, and I believe you really should integrate it. I really hope you do consider this, as it would be a great improvement for this server.

Well, I believe it would be good for the server to have a specific channel to have these kinds of conversations in so people that don't want to involve themselves in these kind of conversations and debates do not have to see it if they do not want to. And some good examples of these are some recent debates I've been in like the importance of counting and band funding and many others. Another reason for this is because to some people this may seem like people are having an argument while they are really not and I believe if we had a channel for this specific thing people will be more comfortable in channels that these conversations happen in like #general and #band-serious as you stated.

But I understand why you believe this may be a bad or useless idea but that is why I brought up the idea of a trial period, this could last a week to a month to see how the channel plays out in actuality.

I feel like it would cause unnecessary drama and cause others to argue even if people certain people say they won’t. People also don’t have to join in on conversations in #general and #band-serious if they don’t want to. Also as matt has said, this is a marching band server, even though we can and are allowed to talk about other things, it is still a marching band server. Im not speaking for the other mods, but this is would be an unneeded channel for me and the other moderaters to check on and watch in our already busy lives to make sure people arent taking debates out of hand.
