I have a friend starting a legion of the first prince army and I heard that they changed how you play it with the new slaves to darkness book... so can you no longer just play a bunch of whatever demons you want in the army? He has 40 bloodletters and a demon prince are these models still playable in legions of the first prince army ?

No
At most they can use 30 letters
I believe it would require them to have 12 units total though

Daemon prince is fine because it's a slaves unit

Legion's going kaput as its separate army, but it's now a 'Damned Legion' subfaction for Slaves to Darkness. The main bonuses (besides being able to field Be'lakor and the new Eternus model) are the ability to pick an Undivided mark unit and treat it as also having a specific god's mark, and being able to give allied Bloodletters, Daemonettes, Plaguebearers and Horrors of Tzeentch the mark of their respective deity. So, Bloodletters will still be useful, especially if you need chaff and don't want to field Chaos Marauders.
