#The sequel to Custom Weapons...

Custom Classes. Seems like the obvious next step, but I don't know if that's within the vision of the TF2C team.

I also fear that this will incentivize server owners to setup a shitton of custom player models like how they're already doing it with custom weapons; but at the same time, I wanna dream..

Honestly having a module for custom classes would defenitely help lots

I mean if a server has custom classes i dont give a shit abt ill just not play on them, see no reason not to add at least a tiny bit of support

People unfamiliar with tf2c already think its tf2 but with custom weapons from youtube shorts rather than what it actually is, letting people just add more playable classes muddies the waters further and would give the game sourcemod vscript slop vibes rather than being og esque tf2 experience

#

Tf2 but with custom weapons from youtube shorts and playable fempyro, mimi sentries or whatever other deviant art shittos came up over the years

#

I think custom weapons are fine, for now especially, since people havent gotten good grasp at implementing/translating old custom weapons to new version of the game yet so a lot of potential behind that (playing around with new weapon live tf2 attributes for example) hasnt been utilised properly yet

i wouldn't limit ppl bcs of that

hollow jacinth
#

Still i think id prefer if the project just focused on being a tf2 game more than a hub for people to make their own micro source mods

#

I imagine devs have limited amount of energy and time to spend on the game in their free time so I think itd be better to focus that on new content curated for their vision for what the game should be rather than outsourcing it to community valve style lol

#

Wouldn't mind this tbh

#

Would be fun to have in custom community servers

hollow jacinth
#

I think part of tf2cs appeal is strong focus on what makes tf2 fundamentally fun and expanding upon it, its nice we get freedom to experiment with stuff devs figured out while working on the game already but yknow, its nice to see most servers be based in vanilla tf2 still instead of prophunt, cp orange and slenderfortress lol

sinful dome
#

hey those are also fun

dry jacinth
#

Nowadays it has gotten better after asking them

Ye

#

Popular youtubers like Panacek and Joe have been mentioning in their videos it's custom stuff

#

And people seem to understand better

#

Meanwhile others like Zhain never mention this and a lot of people get confused

#

So yes it's entirely up to youtubers commenting on custom stuff being custom stuff

dry jacinth
#

During the era VALVe shut down the downloads for it

hollow jacinth
#

Well thats nice

#

But im not sure if its relevant now

#

Im not beefing with existence of custom weapons, moreso just giving people ability to add in custom classes with new models because i dont trust people with that lol

#

Would be quite a leap from, there being no hats to highlight tf2s art direction more to there being server with fnaf custom classes lol

#

I think its too gmod esque, not reslly fit for this type of mod lol

dry jacinth
#

People will get bored of the vanilla stuff until devs release stuff again

#

It's a cycle that custom weapons help making the dry moments less dry

hollow jacinth
#

Sure

hollow jacinth
#

Just wasnt sure what your point was or how it applied to what i was talking about but i get you

#

Im not anti custom weapons lol

#

I think it fits tf2

I hate sourcemod vscript slop as much as you do, but this isn't live TF2. People aren't incentivized to capitalize on Casual mode for the sake of squeezing some cents outta Valve.

This is Eminoma; I believe they have the potential to put in the necessary efforts to better inform (new and old alike) players about the kind of servers they're playing on.

Here's something I had suggested for instance: #server-hosts-archive message.

dry jacinth
#

Is what I'm saying

glossy socket
#

Custom Classes would be incredibly useful for custom gamemode purpose

Freak Fortress 2, Deathmatch, you name it

Menus

#

And a lot of stuff

glossy socket
#

Yeah but VScript or SourceMod it doesn't matter

#

It has to be made customizable by the game at all

glossy socket
#

If VScript can do it, SourceMod can too

wheat topaz

would help with some fancy stuff

like juggernaut powerups

naive dome
#

I mean

#

You can port over SM plugins to vscript if vscript was the same as SM

hollow jacinth
#

I think what matters to me most is there being balance still to the vanilla tf2 experience and the gimmicky community stuff since the live tf2 community server have been dominated by slop for so long lol

glossy socket

#

But I don't think it'll be necessary considering that SourceMod is already an option

#
  • azzy submitted gamedata for it
#

It makes sense to piggyback off an established modding ecosystem

glossy socket

No?

wheat topaz

tf2c with lua coding 😳

#

nah nah, i jest.
lest?

glossy socket
#

Dude all it takes is installing a dedicated server, and drag'n'dropping metamod & sourcemod files into your game directory

#

lol

glossy socket
#

What went wrong exactly

naive dome
#

It just didn't work I tried

glossy socket
#

I downloaded the latest versions and drag'n'dropped them into tf2classified and everything works like a charm

naive dome
#

Like in tf2 nothing happened

glossy socket
#

Don't do it on a listen server tho

#

Or else you'd have to use -insecure

naive dome
#

Do I have to pay for a dedicated server?

glossy socket
# naive dome Where?

Listen server = server you host by clicking "Create a Server" in the game menu

naive dome
#

Or something

glossy socket
#

Actually I should see if I could make a TF2 Classified addon for it

naive dome
#

The reason I used vscript is to port over other plugins but some don't work

#

Some use menus some use stuff that vscript doesn't have etc

tropic quiver
#

usually people run it on dedicated machines they pay specifically to run their tf2c servers (that way, their servers can be up 24h/24) (hence people think it costs money), but there's nothing stopping you from running the dedicated server on your own machines or computers for free

naive dome
#

@glossy socket do me a favour actually

glossy socket

Sup

Port over the berobin plugin

Let's move this to #modding-discussion
