#Sandman Idea...?

I kinda want to see the Sandman in TF2C, but I 'm a firm believer that it should have been a ranged damage weapon instead of whatever we got in live, so here's the stats I have:

M2 to fire a baseball that deals 50 DMG (from 15 in live TF2)
Ball recharge: 8s (from 10s in live TF2)

-) 20% swing speed penalty (?)
-) 50% less ammo for secondary pistols
-) 66% longer recharge for secondary throwables

The idea here is to make the baseballs a main source of ranged damage.
Up for discussion.

Possible alternative stats:
M2 to fire a baseball that deals 35 DMG (from 15 in live TF2) and stuns players for up to 4s
Ball recharge: 8s (from 10s in live TF2)

-) 20% swing speed penalty
-) On secondary miss: 20% movement speed penalty for 5s

Aaaand... there's the cue that I have little idea on what I'm doing.

A part of my intention is to bring the projectile combos scout used to have in live TF2 here, but in a slightly more controlled manner in that it doesn't immediately kill 7/9 classes in the game.
Another is to encourage the use of these baseballs as the main ranged option for damage, hence the nerf on secondary weapons when this is equipped.

I tried to do this as a golf club for Civilian once, and it got a little bit of decent reception.

The thing about the sandman that nobody seems to mention is that -15 crosses a LOT of damage thresholds and basically makes you fodder for anything

So it basically created a scenario where scout NEEDS to land his sandman ball before a lot of interaction or he’s frankly just going to loose

#

I think the problem with the sandman is that it didn’t really punish you for missing, so the main downside didn’t really come into play most of the time because the scout could launch his ball, miss, and run away and not actually have to engage.

Fix that and I think the sandman would be a viable and less hated weapon in both live and TF2C.

Kind of a non-answer but I think in general the stun probably wouldn’t work because “stuns don’t belong in multiplayer games” has become sort of a stock response everyone’s heard whenever sandman discussion pops up.

Until that idea actually gets confronted and people are more open to it, it’s kind of unthinkable to add it

Problem with that is that the scout can just run away. It’s gotta be something that prevents or punishes that. Inflicting slowness, preventing double jumps, etc.

Slowness seems to be the safest way to do it, I think.
