Description variants:

"An old, bloodstained tome titled "Der Mensch: Anatomie und Physiologie" by Otto Ludwig, forgotten in the archives of a long-defunct institution. Medic carries it as a symbol of his... questionable scientific methods. Every time he opens it, suffering is sure to follow."

"He knows where it hurts. And where to hit."

"Tested by time. And skulls."

"A scientific approach to violence."

Left Mouse Button (LMB):

"Insight of Madness"
Medic opens the book (special animation: he theatrically flips through the pages and laughs maniacally 4 or 5 seconds, while the animation is on medic is healing himself +20hp each second).
▪ Grants +25% healing rate and disables the "penalty" for overheal during the next 10 seconds. Works with any secondary Medigun.
▪ Cooldown: 30-35 seconds

Right Mouse Button (RMB):

You throw it like a brick.
▪ Each hit restores +10% ÜberCharge

Stats Summary:

Pros:
• Grants +30% healing rate and disables the "penalty" for overheal for the next 10 seconds. Works with any secondary Medigun.
• Medic heals himself during the animation, +20hp each second.

Cons:
• The user takes 5% more damage from bullets and can't move while the animation is active (LMB).
• –15% movement speed the whole 10 seconds of the power.

Medic Voice Lines (on left-click activation):

"Ahahahah! Ja, das ist wunderschön!"
"Now you’ll learn... everything!"

(on right-click):

"Look into the book... and die!"

i forgot to mention that the book changes its color depending on the team

Is it balanced? I don't know. Does it sound cool? In my opinion, yes. However Medic has currently like one of the highest amount of melees in the game, I would like to see some more for other classes

The concept itself is incredibly charming and I really like it, I don’t have anything to add as of balance but I want to say how much I love the idea purely on aesthetic grounds

open bobcat
cursive mountain
#

I just want to see more melees in general

#

But since this is a book of knowledge it would've also been cool if it was a reskin of the Solemn vow

#

I think a sandwich-like item for Medic like this isn’t totally off the table

#

I think it would just be worth nailing down one thing it should do

mint geode
#

so this is just free mini-crits and extra healing for no random crits?

And if i make grammatical mistakes, sorry, English is not my native language

arctic epoch
#

downsides are laughable, 2% uber on hit is nothing

mint geode
#

idea on the spot, what if right clicking brought up a menu, similar to spy and engi's pda

#

and you get to choose from a few effects but you need to gain "experience" first, like for surviving enough close-range rockets you can get increased knockback on yourself so you can surf better

I really like the book idea but mini crits sucks. When you think that pulling the book out, activating the ability and bringing back the medigun takes at least 5.6 seconds it actually leads to a huge net loss of healing. Since uberspirtz also grants uber, the only upside are minicrit syringes whose strength increase is comparable to using blutsauger over stock.

mint geode
#

actually wait

#

mini crits stack with the mediguns

#

so if this gives mini-crits and extra healing, then the healing's gotta be jacked

#

from 24 hp/s to 40.5 hp/s

slate jackal

arctic epoch
#

you just need to change the downsides as they currently are pretty much nothing and the whole uber on hit thing should just be removed or changed into sth else. because the uberspritze already exists

stark bison
#

If i was to have a book. I would have passive uber generation instead of healing based uber generation.

#

So you could still build uber on a team of idiots

slate jackal
#

Thanks for the remarks, i will try to change and remake this idea.

but maybe you need add more Cons

slate jackal
#

Pros:
Grants +25% healing rate and +10% ÜberCharge build rate for 8 seconds. Works with any primary Medigun.

Cons:
–15% movement speed while the ability is active (RMB).
Decreased melee damage.
No random crits.

20% faster is a little crazy don't you think

slate jackal
#

I installed the game yesterday :)) so maybe

slate jackal
dense prawn
#

sure

#

also increasing the healing rate would probably increase your Uber charge build speed anyway

open bobcat
#

I think the problem is that it’s just doing way too much. Neat concept as a consumable for medic, but it needs a better effect

#

I think taking 3-5 seconds to increase your healing speed (esp useful for groups of Allies) ala the amputator in live is a good idea

#

But crits are kind of out of the question IMO

#

We have two crit weapons already on the melee which already can randomly crit

#

I’m kind of sick of melee crits at this point

dense prawn
#

now that I think about it there should be some other upside over better healing or uber building and the fact you're NOT doing that could be one of the downsides

slate jackal
open bobcat
#

This is a better direction

stark bison
#

Since you installed yesterday (^_^) maybe you should look into the burst healing of shock therapy

#

On a heavy, it does straight up 300 health with 30 second recharge

#

Just requires a melee hit

I like da visual concept, but listen to me in the gameplay features

#

I mean, change them

arctic epoch

#

I really like this idea a lot! My only thought is that there is a lot of medic melees right now, maybe this could be a primary option that could replace the syringe gun?
