#Neutral Dominion

So i play sagat, often i get checked by a random jump when i try to whiff my attacks or get whiffed punish. What i want to do is reduce the amount of times i get into those positions currently a 1500mr sagat
what do you mean you try to whiff your attacks, ideally you want to avoid whiffing
but if you notice you're getting jumped in on a lot, think about in what scenario did my opponent jump? did they block a fireball? block a normal? take a mental note of in what situation they like to jump and just wait
doing nothing in neutral is a good option
against jumpers and to feel out what your opponent likes to do
I try to whiff in hopes they whiff too to see if i can bait out a whiff punish
if you're gonna do that you should be using low recovery normals like jabs
that way if you whiff a jab you can still anti air if they jump
better players are often looking for their opponents move startup, so doing a light can bait that reaction
it's a low risk option
whiffing let's say a st.mk is going to make you vulnerable for a very large time
no reason to take such a risk
How would i react to the startup of the attack?
I would try to react when the attack is there
you'd keep your eyes on your opponent, and when you see a move startup begin is when you press your whiff punish normal
it makes it significantly easier to react
which is why the counterplay would be to whiff a jab to make them think youre whiffing a move
then whiff punish them
this is higher level stuff but it's good
Ooooh, that makes sense since at times i react to the jump instead of the frame the jump starts and would often have a really late medium deep and get comboed
I was gonna ask how does a jab even get anyone to react since its so fast, but if i react to the moment the character moves, then i can see why
yep!
as for jumps it's such a large window you don't necessarily have to notice the early jump frames but it does help
and remember if youre pressing a poke.. for example a st.mk..
the moment you press that button you are unactionable for quite a few frames, so there's no reason to be doing anything other than looking for jump ins
i guess with sagat st.mk its a little different because you can confirm the hit, but generally speaking
if you press a long recovery poke, just be ready to dp
thats where your mind should be
because you arent actionable for that many frames anyways the moment you press the button, so put your brain into something useful in the meantime
@shadow belfry thank you bro after a 3 day break and some warmups, my neutral game is so much stronger
very glad to hear it 🙏
