Hi, I'm plat 3 with Cammy and need someone who knows the character to show me how to play her. I'm currently in a slump with her and need advice on how to get good and play a few sets with me.

Hey! Until one of the other coaches who is better suited to help with this comes around, I'll ask you if you can share some recent replays that we can take a look at. Even if you're mostly looking for a normal coaching session or sets, this will still be useful and provide more context and information to us to help you out

My CFN is Lily Bergamo, but the update kinda screwed me and the replays aren't available anymore (?). So I'm gonna play with cammy right now and then report back

@visual quail So it's been a while since I played Cammy, but I did look at the replays.
Since you're feeling like you're in a slump, I see a few things you could set your sights on as a priority to improve.

  1. I saw one anti air in the 5 replays I watched, and it was too late leading to you getting punished. You weren't getting harassed by jumpers but it's a critical skill for neutral. Go into the training room, practice the anti air preset.

  2. Regularly your simple confirms weren't being confirmed. I saw probably 5 cases of 3 jabs into 2MK. Go into the training room, set bot to block random and the on block action to walk back for maybe 10 frames. Practice throwing 3 jabs. If the first hits, finish it with spiral arrow. If not, don't spiral. This will get you far better oki and damage than the nothing you're currently getting. Confirms can be done in other routes, start with this one.

  3. Your neutral "tools" are jump, DI, and hooligan. These all can be hard countered and are relying on a failure to react from your opponent. If they can press DI and DP re-actively, you will get perfected constantly. Look into a few other neutral tools and try integrating them.
Some ideas to practice. Pick one for now, as you grow more comfortable add in more.
Outside of range to hit, 2MP buffer spiral arrow will only hit if you counter hit. Throw that out randomly at a safe range in neutral.
2MK xx drive rush, confirming into a combo if it hits (see point 2) and forcing strike/throw if it doesn't.
Instant dive kick can catch people poking and lead into a combo.

what exactly is a confirm?

wild moth
#

You basically do some safe or hard to punish move, and if it hits then you do the unsafe follow up

wild moth
#

Jabs for example are fairly safe

#

3 jabs can't really be punished, but spiral arrow on block absolutely can be

#

so you do 3 jabs, and if you see the first one connect then you finish the combo

#

But if you see it blocked, you don't finish

In the training room menu there should be a tab for reversals, and inside that a subtab for blocking
On the block lines, there'll be a button to pick what option it uses. Go in there, and in the common moves tab pick walk back

Is there any reliable way to get rid of bad habits? I think I'm mashing buttons too much like I do in every other game besides souls stuff. Do I just have to be super conscious about it?

visual quail
#

I don't know, man. I feel like it's mostly my attitude and me getting extremely tilted that's holding me back. Maybe I should just stop for like a month or two

wild moth
#

For example, if you jump constantly, figuring out what you're jumping for and finding a better option to implement that fills that need.

#

That might be trying to whiff punish with 2mp xx spiral if you're not conformable in neutral, or writing out a better defensive plan if jump is your panic defense option

visual quail
#

I feel like I'm actually getting somewhat better. I had a very jumpy Chun-Li and managed to AA most of the jumps

#

Not much, but it's a start

#

Although I definitely had some misinputs where I got spiral arrow instead of dp

I can try to help.
Ping me over the weekend and we can play some games!

#

Otherwise I can watch some replays if you upload them somewhere as I'm usually not near a console to check a code

wild moth
#

Glad to hear that @visual quail !

Input errors are to be expected. Anti airing is both a technical input and very heavy on the stack. As you continue you'll get better, faster, and more consistent, but even pro players miss their DPs occasionally. Even with the inconsistencies, being able to reduce the free combos and strike/throw that jump in provides is extremely potent.

#

Also David is absolutely a great player, better than me for sure and way better at Cammy specifically. Definitely take him up on his offer if you have the time :)

visual quail
#

and just a general question: what is delay tech and how do I learn it?

shell basin
#

I do!
And delay tech is pressing throw a little bit after you wakeup.
If the opponent hits you you block and if they throw you, you tech

#

There's a setting in training called throw escape that it's you up to practice that

visual quail
#

I feel like maybe I'm just playing the character wrong? I played with a master cammy in the battle hub and they just rushed me down and mixed me up constantly

outer zealot
#

yeah that's the character

#

if the opponent isn't preventing that why wouldn't you just pressure all the time
