Been playing various fighting games for a decade very casually, never making it out of bronze or equivalent rankings. Looking to actually get serious with SF6 and MK1. Just picked up Chun Li and think she will be my main going forward.

Looking to improve my fundamentals and make better decisions in matches. Anti-air and neutral are areas i know need a lot of work. Hoping to find someone who can give me some coaching sessions every now and then as well.

Still learning Chun Li so the muscle memory isn't there yet, making wrong inputs, don't have bnbs ingrained yet.

A few replay codes of recent matches:
N6G5SPRHV (Lose vs Zang)
6EHTKVGEF (Win vs Chun)
HRPDDXM9T (Win vs Manon)

Not a coach but hopefully I can give some insight, I watched those matches and some recent ones as well that you had with chun.

So I'm gonna begin with something I think it was good. I was expecting bronze chun to give a lot of space since it's a charge character, you were contesting a lot, I want you to keep doing this.

The bad thing is you're contesting with the wrong buttons, it seems like you have no plan at all and are pressing everything (no offesnse). MK and cr.HP in neutral are atrocious in neutral, I don't want to see those buttons ever again. In bronze your neutral is pretty simple, walk into range and hit a button, if they are walking towards you to do the same thing you preemptively press a button, lets forget about whiff punishing for now. The good buttons are, fw/bw.mp , standing jab, cr.mk, that's what you want to use. Ocasionally HP or HK but remember non cancelable so you're bound to get DI'ed.

Which leads me to the next point, from the matches I've seen you didn't react to DI a single time. With chun you shouldn't be getting di'ed at all, most her buttons are cancelable.

I didn't see the opponent's jumping much but when they did you didn't anti air. You want to get into the habit of anti airing with tensho kicks, its down down kick so it's pretty easy to get, upper body invincibility so you can do it pretty late. For crossups, jump back jab or jump back grab.

#

Now, you have no combos whatsoever, and for your rank I'd stay away of the stance combos for now. The problem with chun is, you kinda have to confirm, I see you doing 1 button to legs, hazanshu and a ex spinning on neutral. All are punishable, you want to confirm these.

So for starters, lp lp lk, you can confirm that. Mp, cr.mp also confirmable. If possible confirm mp, cr.mp to spinning legs, requires you to charge pretty fast and hit the cancel late, but it's worth it because it gets you oki.

Now meaties, in that rank you instantly climb if you have meaties because people refuse to block, so I want you to get in the habit of doing sbk into dash mp for meaty, it's a manual timing, so don't mash. And if not possible do light/medium legs into jab/throw. You're plus after legs on hit, its just on block its punishable.

Another thing I want to see is more kikokens. On neutral l.kikoken forces a reaction since you can follow it. People either jump, block, or DI. You want to be ready for all. So just throw the l.kikoken and follow it, then a button, if the fireball hits you have your confirm to go into the above.

#

Last thing is knowing what's punishable. I saw a luke whiffing DP in front of you 2 times straight without getting punished, and when you did punish it was cr.mk to legs. I want you to get a bigger combo here, let's do, and this is the only time you're doing stance, hk stance mk, ex spinning bird into heavy tensho kicks or one of the supers (all work here). This is also your counter DI combo.

This will be your bigger punish. For things that are faster, you just do the simple ones above. If you're unsure, don't commit and test before with a button, then you know if you can get a light medium or heavy, convert accordingly.

#

Once you get higher up you want to start to develop the stance, but I think its overwhelming for now, so I'd keep with the simple gameplan. Just mp, cr.mk and jab in neutral. Anti air, counter DI, and punish accordingly you don't need more until gold. If you can incorporate meaties, but for chun you need to confirm into SBK, so once that's usable that's your next step.

@fast crest Thank you so much for the in depth review 🙏. I've spent the last few days in the lab and made massive improvements. Played 24 matches today before I saw this (13 win streak in casuals followed by a loss, then 7-3 in ranked placements, last 2 matches were very bad losses to Gold 1's.) Placed Silver 4. I can't post any replays right now as I'm at work but will first thing in the morning.

To touch on some of your points I was able to counter DI much more today. I also realized how much I'm being punished in neutral for pressing the worst buttons. Did a better but still a lot of room to improve and I will focus on the buttons you listed for neutral. I've added a few combos to my game play but will definitely practice the counter DI one you listed, as I currently don't have one.

Anti airs, Kikokens and SBK need a lot of work on my end.

I'll post some more replays in the morning, especially the Gold matches as I did not do well in those fights and Gold is my current barrier

A few more recent replays:
KKTSX4YAH (Loss vs Ken) Gold match where I completely fell apart
W8QX9B7MG (Win vs Ryu) I struggle a lot against opponents who jump continuously
TX588R4M3 (Loss vs Ryu)
JWNUAMW6X (Win vs Ken) Actually counter DI'd and anti-aired, so small improvements I guess
