Hello, will try to keep this simple. I would like to get to the point where I can pick up any fighting game and play it to certain level (Obviously with time and effort) . The level I am talking about about is use of deliberate actions/decisions as to opposed to what is called mashing etc. This seems to be a problem because the "mashing" is not very fun nor do I feel like I am making any progress.

I understand some of the resources out there but I'm still kind of lost on what to do and how to approach things. Fighting games to me aren't as intuitive and straightforward to learn and improve compared to other games for me. Any help/coaching would be welcome. I currently own all BB games, UNI (Latest) , Xrd Rev 2, Strive, SFV and will be getting more in the future.

well, the first layer of fighting games is frametraps

#

on top of meaties in 2D games

#

and whiff punishment

#

all of that is for stopping the opponent from mashing

#

make them accept they have to deadass just block against you

#

once you have made them respect your frametrap and are actually just blocking

#

the next layer, layer 2, is your mix

#

you take their willingness to block as an opportunity to mix them up

#

and crack open their defense

#

and thats about it early, no need to complicate stuff

#

oh and obviously learn the combos from your frametraps

#

preferably try to get a good knockdown from em to keep the offense going

and you take it baby steps

#

focus on getting one thing down at a time

#

frametraps generally go first, then meaties, then whiff punishment

has nothing to do with talent or anything, mostly just time invested
