Im assuming this is a new character because in the past you played birdie right
So yeah learning your aas is gonna be mega important
Especially on sagat where everyone is going to have a tendency to jump at you
I know DP aa is important but its not in muscle memory no matter how many games I tell myself to practice it
Ye it be like that
what should I do? is it just a patience thing?
Just a look for it and really focus on making the dp aa the first thing you do when you see your opponent take to the air.
Im not gonna fault you for how the rest of those rounds went because its a new character + youre playing a diamond player on their main
I've also got a problem of losing track of my opponent, sometimes I don't even see the jump I just notice that the space they occupied is suddenly empty
Yeah then just react to that happening
If thats the case
Personally i just react to seeing the enemy model touch the life bar
I dont even check to see if theyre still on the ground
Though if you plan on sticking to sagat
@peak shuttle is pretty good
Can give you tips on how to play the character more effectively
hi hi
sure!!
lemme take a look
Just watched your first match.
Against mika i definitely think you should be throwing a lot more fireballs. She has no safe way around them so it can really mess up her neutral.
Plus eevee wasnt jumping very often
I can give you some DP tips, however st.hk is also an amazing anti air with a wide hitbox and good reward on CC
I'm not too worried about the matchup mechanics, to be honest I can't even think straight or come up with basic decision on the fly
my fundamentals are garbage
How comfortable are you with non DP anti airs?
Something that can really help your jump awareness is placing small pauses in your gameplay.
Ok i just threw a fireball, where is my opponent right now?
are they holding their ground? starting to press a button? in the air? on the ground?
Sagat can play very reactively and its one of his strengths as a character
Learning to dp from crouching is going to help make it easier too. I can tell you the input but that depends on your controller
Fireball DP is kind of sagats fundamentals. If you cant play that game you're going to have a hard time.
lemme check out another replay
Ok so,
I wanna see you ABUSE st.mk
its one of the best pokes in the game, and most characters have a hard time challenging it at the right range
Any time your opponent gets in range of st.mk i would default to hitting it unless they can stop you
Its extremely hard to whiff punish
Think of it like a spear that keeps your opponent away from you
or spacing traps them
Some tips with illustration on why Sagat does well in Shoto wars. The master himself Mr Xian takes on the king!
if you are spaced out its extremely safe and spammable
Honestly if you just want fundamentals
You dont need to use many moves to play sagat
you can substitute dp with st.hk aswell
ok i'll limit the moves I use to those 4
st.lk is only 5f and reaches as far as many characters mediums. I recommend buffering fireballs
Its good if your opponent is too close for st.mk or you are trying to preemptively stuff dashes
Let me know how that goes for you
Try to focus on your spacing and catching those jumps, its the most important for sagat
Once you have confidence in anti airs you can really abuse your fireballs
You can def get by with just st.hk for a long time, but grinding out the anti air dp's will seriously pay off with sagat
I used to set the bot (starting at someone with a slow dash like honda) to have 2 recordings- walking around and then dash grab, or walking around into jumping in and just hammering it out for 15 minutes or so
Hk is good and gives more reward but DP opens up the entirety of the fireball game and let's you use his great fireball traps, which you will find really come in handy once you enforce your basic strategy
And for the basic strategy as sagat I refer you to this vid
