how do you even think of using a heavy core and a skull in a cats eye in 10 mins

i dont usually do super detailed eyes- i just started trying to more now
skulls are VERY commonly used to add sparkles to eyes, you just kind of pick that up once you start playing more
theres not really any other option except for buttons, and they dont stand out as much when you are far away.
for the heavy core, I had already used it in some simpler eyes as a pupil, I just put it on since it was black and it worked

my strategy is to find a good palette of color blocks to start with for white and eye color, add a sparkle if you want, use every non-block item you can find of the right colors (buttons, heads, hoppers, etc) and put them on it until it works. If I made for example a dragon eye I might use a candle and light it to create a little spark of some sort, or maybe try out a lantern. Glass panes work well too for adding shine.
then you just reshape the eye and touchup. The cat eye was originally completely square, but I made it more circular with stairs. Once you add the details you can really see what looks best.

Mobile definitely does not mean you are doomed to be slow forever, you can actually go quite fast, it just takes some time. Don't get into the mindset that you'll never be able to and just have to do small detailed builds, as that's certainly not at all the case.
You can get more cps than me who's on a controller, you just got to know how to build fast, which I know sounds obvious and I know you've already played a lot, but it's a continually growing skill.
