I notice this too, and I think it has something to do with the age of the playerbase.
young kids really like tiny things, like minifigurines, with little to no reason why. It's just something they like a lot. I remember being younger and voting similarly, I don't know why but it's just a thing that happens.
Tiny, detailed builds can sometimes get more. It's why I tell people if they are brand new to building just go for small and detailed if they want points to win, not overshoot with larger builds on accident until they are ready.
It really depends on the lobby though, I have a big, blocky cute style that usually gets similar results.
