it comes from the fact that you dont select 2 people at once but a single person twice. Think about a deck of 20 cards: Remove the first card from it and the probabilty of the card being chosen is 1/20. Since you have chosen a card now, theres one less card in the deck to choose from - 19 cards remain. So if you remove the second card, the probabily will be 1/19 (this also works for every other cards till the deck is empty). 1/19 happens to be slighly more that 1/20 hence the 10.25%.
The rest is just math.

I got death the first time I ever played

At the time I was on call with a friend as well and they were showing me the game. I have since tried and enjoyed every game except Skywars, Bedwars, and The bridge. Ground wars was the only pvp one I really liked. Bedwars is fun when I played with my friends but I think I was on Cubecraft for that

89,000 kills with no death queue is pretty crazy ngl

I do remember having an alternate account back on java edition where I had about 7,000 kills with less than 100 deaths on it

Biggest thing is back in the day, when you actually queued for the death role, it cost 1,000 tokens to do it, but the only way you could get tokens is by running. Each map offered a different amount of tokens but it would usually take between 7-10 runner games to get 1,000 tokens

Death bots sound like an awful idea. What happens in map #10 when you get to an unavoidable trap like the bee trap at the end of Steampunk and all 4 players know that if they are the one who goes first to trigger the unavoidable trap, the trap will kill them, set them back and now they've lost their chance at 1st. What would happen is that all 4 players would stay in front of the trap until the timer runs out because if they're the one to go first, it's an automatic loss. With a Death bot, someone has to go in to get rid of it but when it's the final 4 people, no one is going to be stupid enough to guarantee their loss by triggering an unavoidable trap.
