do the opposite of targetting first. Killing someone in first place is the same xp value as killing someone in last place. Going for groups of players gives you 2xp per kill + bonus xp for multi-kills on a single trap.
I find a common misconception with a lot of deaths is that they think either 1st place gives more XP or kill xp is based on the level of the player killed
