It stands completely in the face of Sony doing shitty things
Team Asobi was formed after Sony closed all of their Japanese studios and consolidated them into one company. By any measure, it was bound to be a disaster company and game. Sony was also starting to move towards live service games and outwardly said that they had no good IPs to release games with.
So Astro Bot coming out, being one of, if not the best 3D platformer ever made, being a monument to Sony's IP and legacy to gaming, and being a complete spit in the face to Sony's live service move, releasing right next to Concord was simply just perfect.
It's also so sweet that Team Asobi acknowledged Nintendo and Mario and their effects on the industry and the game as well at the acceptance speech
They recognised that Nintendo and Mario left a massive effect on people growing up and playing games, and wanted to honour that with a video game, and also honoured Sony's legacy at the same time
In a way it's a complete love letter to a big sphere of video gaming, for developers and their love for video games as art
