killer riff
A 30 Minute post-rock journey into the current emotions of such a turbulent life. This is not a particularly accessible album, although I hope it reaches the right ears that will come to appreciate it
There's a lot of weird shit in this album but I was lowk losing it when I made it😭
a lot of good music has been made from people losing it lol
i mean ill take your word for it being innaccessible but ive enjoyed a decent amnt of weird stuff
Yeah it was definitely for the people im my life that wanted to hear it cuz I understood they probably wouldn't get it or like the time of music I was making
Kinda to soften the blow yk
totally fair
I made that last track with a broken organ in a museum I worked in that I 100% was NOT allowed to use or even touch lol
thats soooo sick lmao
im sure the organ appreciated its last hurrah
or it mightve fucking hated the music
was the organ like smt the museum was displaying??
or just smt in the back
Yeah right front and center
I used to live in an extremely desolate town and the museum got about 4 people a day so most of my day was just spent dicking around cuz I was the only person in the building
It really was
There was so little to do the only options for entertainment in said town were music or drugs
makes sense
Its been wayy too long since ive made anything im proud of these days tho
aw y not
Could be a few things, my standards on what I put out mightve gotten higher and also ive had to learn an entire new program to create music on that I dont have a license to use so all my work gets deleted after each session until I can afford it😭
that probably puts a dent into your plans lmao
when im in a rut w art i usually just make simple shit that im happy about
Yeah I feel like i gotta improve after each release so everytime I make sumn I feel I have to make it more complex or the chord progressions gotta be something crazy or a weird time signature which might be stunting my ability to put shit out lol
i def get that
im really guilty of always pushing myself w art but it maybe not panning out
you shouldnt try to experiment for the sake of experimenting
and if you are gonna go weird places just try to familiarize yourself w the places
also i like the albuma lot so far
Ah thank you🫂
.fm
Mh, weird
Not happy with the Uh?
The message glitched and it showed twice on my end smh
lol
Children of god> soundtracks for the blind
i can agree with this but it still hurts my soul
Idk why it's so highly regarded swans has lots of better albums
i like all the ambient work on it and the big songs are amazing
dont get me wrong theres a few songs that dont feel fully realized but overall its a great album and a truly unique experience
I still think to be kind is the best of all worlds for swans
The anger
The grooves
The ambient sections
The vocals
A lot of swans albums are too slow for me or the earlier ones not having enough groove but to be kind sits perfectly between all
Also bring the sun might be one of the best ambient tracks oat (imho)
overall it seems like the definitve swans album but i am still disposed to the early swans works
Filth and cop are the shit but a lot of those other ones like public castration miss the mark for what I enjoy in the early swans albums
i understand the arguments against them but sonically and aesthetically holy money and its similar works feel a lot like the natural evolution (or devolution) of the early industrial works
they feel like a truely bottomless pit that i just dont get from other music
my fav album overall is probably the great annihilator though
idk its tough i love all of them
I mean theyre arguably heavier but a huge chunk of the songs on albums between cop and children of god are an absolute slog to get through and dont really have that "beat down" feel the first 2 had
ngl i disagree completely 😭 i think the beatdown factor is still there but its just changed emotionally from anger to existential grief
Possibly but I feel like they dont grow enough, like the beginning of a lot of those songs sound exactly like the end and little to nothing changes
Helpless Child
Can't comment tbh, I've only listened to 4 Swans albums (3 studio, 1 live)
Idkkkk man I this dont think its as good as everyone says
i feel like the same can be said for a majority of the early swans releases, each individual song seems to focus less on progression instead opting for a more hypnotic approach
im gonna kill u with hammer
I mean for early swans songs Stay Here changes a decent amount

Released on: 1996-10-22
Composer: Michael Gira

Im not even tryna say it to be a contrarion because my fav album is their most popular but I just dont get soundtracks for the blind
Like there's a ton of good stuff but
I dont think its like "one of the greatest albums in music history"
Soundtracks is very hypnotic and tense, though I will say the copper disc a tad bit weaker than the silver disc
Especially because of Hypogirl and Fan's Lament
I fucking love the intro of hypogirl tho
Soo godamn angry
The Swans Are Dead version is better
Though it's also one of the weaker tracks in the album, too
i mean rhythmically yeahh but like the idea of it doesnt its kind of similar to an oxygen in that way rhythmically it changes a lot but the overarching feeling is that unending beatdown
To Be Kind my beloved
Oxygen just adds more instruments
There's no chord changes or progression its just more noise
But its so good still
I havent even listened to swans in ages now that I think about it
i think no doubt one of the most innovative albums of all time though
i cant stop
I've slowed down with Swans recently
been spamming for like 3 years straight
Lift yr skinny fists is still the better of the Big 3 post rock albums
A bit more into Converge and Radiohead now
And Cryptopsy
What's the big 3
I agree, btw
the swans are dead version of blood promise is my favorite song of all time
F# A#, soundtracks for the blind and lift your skinny fists
is soundtracks even really post rock?
100%
My favorite song from SAD is Helplesa Child
To a certain extent, yes, absolutely
So basically RYM's top 3
Radiohead is overhated by older generations gen z seems to be the only ones who get it
i feel this about a lot of swans albums like they certainly take influence from certain genres but they never actually sound like anything you would hear from that genre
Yeah? Thats what I said those arent my top 3 post rock albums lmao
Those are just the most known post rock albums
I see
Also I hate when people bring up rym as if the music on there is anything but bad
Never said that btw
I personally use it, but if you don't like the top albums on there, good for you for not trying to blend in
i dont use rym but a majority of people i get recs from do so i think its probably a good site
people just want to be different or niche like nobody cares
just listen to what you think is good
I never said i dont like the albums on there
I don't think I ever implied that, I'm just saying
Well, the use of you implies it, but still
Exactly people are so desperate to make taste that doesnt look like ryms top 100 that they end up forgetting that basically every critically acclaimed album of every genre of the last 100 years usually has a spot somewhere in that chart
I don't use RYM but I think those are pretty legit top 3 post-rock albums too
They're just the ones that come to mind to most for fame
Ye
people that care about music enough to write reviews are gonna like some good music just how it is
Iirc, RYM's top 3 is Lift Your Skinny Fists, Spiderland, and F#A#infinity
Like everyone's who's been on the internet for a while has seen the skinny fists cover
no lie i dont really care for gybe
I would also throw in something like The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place just in terms of how much it's shaped post-2000s post-rock in pop culture
even though I know it's not a beloved album for post-rock fans
like they are good but i dont get blown away in any capacity like with most post rock ive heard
I have it on vinyl lol
Die a million times
I consider myself a post-rock rookie
for the popular ones i like sigur ros a lot more
my top 1 post-rock album will always be Departure Songs by We Lost the Sea
Perfect album
Ive lost liters of tears to godspeed you black emperor
I stopped giving af about having "original" taste a long time ago and just started listening to anything I thought sounded good regardless of infamy or stigma surrounding it
Yeah fuck yeah put on spiderland and death grips idgaf
Good music deserves to be listened to
ongg
had a friend that was really into lil peep when he was still alive
couldnt get into it at the time so i didnt want to try again just because he died
he tends to get a lot of hate (that's mainly why I brought it up, because of the infamy/stigma comment), but I think he was a pivotal part of the early-mid 2010s emo and cloud rap culture
a lot of modern emo trends can be traced back to things that he popularized in the emo/rap scene
whys that?
Boris live
Was it a slow show or a fast one cuz there's kinda no inbetween
i gotta listen to some more boris for sure
pink was fun but ive heard that theres a lot of variety in their discog
post rock discussed and no mention of Cloudkicker?

Kinda synthwave or darksynth-esc
Somewhat similar to this kind of sound
I don’t listen to a whole lot of that kind of music, can’t really give many recs unfortunately
This one might be closer to the sound you’re going for
Synthwave yeah
Carpenter Brut is a major artist in the genre
There's like
Perturbator
Oh I know of them too ig
The Furi soundtrack is mostly that
Future club
Hotline Miami obviously
I like the genre a lot I've tried making it a few times
Don't think I did particularly well
I had a couple month synth wave phase a couple years ago. Think it’s a really cool sound just not one that stuck with me in the long run
I have phases yeah

Irony - as in incorporating things you think are actually shit into your own high art or life with a knowing wink (and even if, when called out, you say “no I actually think that is brilliant, the height of expression” etc.), is a cancerous, dangerous, boring and useless trait.

I will do anything to see them live they’ve been my fav band for so long
I’m seeing Sunn O))) in June tho so I guess it kinda compensates

sad to hear about the bands current situation 😭
it blows my mind evrrytime I hear it
O Yeahh😭😭
pretty unfortunate but i guess some good music came out of it at least 😓
😔 atleast i guess
same shit with crystal castles
yep, another electronic band same situation sadly
im tired of artists i really fw ending up with horrible controversies
or listening to an artist and its really good and then you learn after about it
that one is especially rough
happened to me with Daughters 😔
yeah same
yeah that’s fucking horrific
whenever i have to weigh my music morality its always the first example that comes to mind
i read through the girls story about it that she wrote and I don’t think I could finish it
same here 😔
its disgusting
it was horrific dude it actually hurt to read
have u read the thing she wrote ? Think it’s on Reddit or smth
absolutely horrific poor woman
i heard the description of it but not the actual post
i will find it since i think my playcount at least warrants it at this point
ahahah

guess it was a bit ago now
their *
yep
the thing is i had heard some of the lingua ingota songs beforehand that i can deduce were about him now and its been a mindfuck for a little while
OH MY FUCK I JUST CLOCKED
dude I just realised the lady was “Kirsten” and Lingua Ignota’s name is obviously Kirsten
Holy shit I did not clock that
I haven’t listened to any Lingua yet but holy shit I just clocked
yeah its really crazy both insanely talented musicians in their respective genres
kind of makes it surreal outside looking in
but its a real thing that happened
Bro how did I not realise Lingua Ignota and Alexis were together
bro how did I not realise that holy shit
yeah I get what u mean
but yeah definitely check out her stuff its very transformative and takes you to different place
I will def check it out , I’ve really been meaning too

I still dont understand if Venom is supposed to be Black metal, or speed, or thrash.
Venom isn't black metal, they're black metal predecessors
I'd say they're speed/nwobhm

Speed is probably the best category for them.
def speed and can be described as proto bm
the first wave of bm was heavily speed metal influenced
Ehhhh, depends on which part.
First wave BM should not be thought of as a specific sound and anyone who says it should knows nothing about black metal.
You had deathier stuff like Rotting Christ’s Satanas Tedeum in 1989 and Toten’s Macabre demo.
You had stuff that basically sounded like Norwegian BM already like the Czech scene with stuff like Master’s Hammer.
Obviously stuff like Sabbat, Bathory, NME, and Zadkiel were heavily speed inspired though (Zadkiel in particular).
i guess ive just mainly heard the speed influenced stuff but ill check out some of the other stuff u said

This song & music were created using a combo of AI music generation (Udio), human-made lyrics and arrangement as well as human singing and music. It's a parody - It is made to sound authentic to the time period not to fool anyone, but to have some fun guessing if it is real or not.

The '50s progression (also known as the "Heart and Soul" chords, the "Stand by Me" changes, the doo-wop progression and the "ice cream changes") is a chord progression and turnaround used in Western popular music. The progression, represented in Roman numeral analysis, is I–vi–IV–V. For example, in C major: C–Am–F–G. As the name impl...

yo the end credits song "dead mans gun" from rdr1 is so mf peak wtf 🥹 i just discovered
Swans released Live Rope on streaming
wtf does that mean
I wholeheartedly believe that Unhallowed > Thorns of Crimson Death > Where Dead Angels Lie
hat sure
im sorry but the other 2 are pretty generic fits 😭
Ive never seen the camo pants fit
you've never seen the camo pants fit??
With the shirtless vest? Not really
Idk cartis outfits are extremely important to his brand and I seriously doubt hes just throwing stuff on that happens to look like ecco2k
you can't tell me you've never seen the second fit though
I went to a live carti show and I'm convinced 80% of people there never looked at the stage a single time
they just had to be convinced he was there and that was enough
What does that have to do with fashion
they could've had a blank stage with speakers doing adlibs and crowd would be moshing
Thats just rage crowds
as in they aren't looking at him 😭
Social media? Photoshoots? Public spottings? He ain't mc ride bro hes seen very frequently outside of concerts
And also people tape live shows all the time and just watch at home

Hate this album.
Okay there's no fucking way you've heard of Sabhankra
One of my least favorite meloblack releases.
Someone gave them to me in an album exchange a couple years back.
It's like the exact type of melodeath designed to get on my nerves.
The album itself is meh but this song in particular is very good imo
Also, speaking of Turkey, don't y'all have one of (if not, the) the first female fronted black metal bands in the second wave?
What's the name? the bm scene in Turkey isnt that big
Astarte.
Aren't those gals greek?
Are they? I thought the band was formed in Turkey.
Nope! What genre?
Orchestra/Epic
Interesting. Not really my thing, but I'll put it on my list.

This is the Turkish Pentagram, not the one with bobby
Give this one a listen too, it's my fav from their discography.
Speaking of Turkey, I just realized that there's a Turkish band called Imprecation.
Aren't those guys American?
Pure black metal unlike the American band which is both black/death, but more of a death metal band.
Ahh, you mean the bm band
There's Imprecation (US) and Imprecation (Turkey).
yep yep
The US band is really good, I will say that. Disgusting drumming.
What's your opinion on blackened death?
Apparently Wes Weaver was a member before his death too?
Depends on what you consider blackened death.
I heard someone say "its for people who pay for a high end headphone but still want to hear blast beats" and i cant unhear it lol
Stuff like Behemoth. I'd say Kanonenfieber but then it'd be like saying if Slipknot was heavy metal
Are you thinking of stuff like Angelcorpse, stuff like Dissection, stuff like Blasphemy, or stuff like Behemoth?
Ah, I don't love Behemoth.
Dissection is considered blackened death? I've always seen them as meloblack
For black/death, I love me some Goatpenis, Anal Vomit, and Mystifier though.
Dissection, Dawn, Unanimated, and The Moaning are all blackened death.
Some of their albums or whole genre?
All of their albums.
Huh, weird. I feel like Storm of Light's Bane or the Somberlain dont really fit into the genre
It's because of how heavy the Swedish melodeath influence is on there.
Unless you ask Jon Notveidt, in which case Dissection was never a black metal band and was just a death metal band.
But most people would disagree with him and say Dissection is meloblack/melodeath.
That's really odd
Dissection is definitely black>death
Have you listened to Non Est Deus?
It's from the same guy that made Kanonenfieber
Been a LONG while, but yeah.
I don't remember much about it.
Flaggelation is a fine song but like save us is kinda ass
For orthoblack, I always preferred VI.
orthoblack?
"Orthodox black metal" made up genre that people often put a more dissonant category of black metal with themes around orthodox Satanism in.
Ahh
Surprisingly, they do not include Deathspell Omega here.
I wonder if Sabaton is considered Catholic Metal then
By the way, how much do you know about the Turkish metal scene?
Do you know of the Akmar scandal?
If you want actually good Christian metal, there's always Warlord.
Not much at all.
Basically, in the 90's there was a passage named "Akmar Passage" in Kadıköy, Istanbul
Now Kadıköy itself is known for being an inclusive and safe space for all, but Akmar Passage was basically a hub for Metalheads to stay in
Classic US power metal EP.
Interesting.
People would open metal shops, etc, it was basically the underground scene of Turkey
Around the early 2000's, some Satanist murdered his girlfriend in the passage
Then the government decided to step up
They started closing the shops, major arrests etc etc
Now the place is full of bookstores
However at like the -2 level there are still some metal shops/record labels
I mean Christian and Metal in the same sentence feels weird.
Ye, a lot of Muslim countries seem to have crackdowns on metalheads at random intervals. Apparently according to some Syrian guys in that scene, the government used to periodically arrest a bunch.
@austere lagoon probably knows way more about this.
It's sad, really
At least Turkiye is (somewhat) a secular state
the blokes at Afghanistan have it harder
What do you think of Thurisaz? @nocturne condor
Ngl, I thought you were talking about a completely different band.
Not a big atmo guy, so I don't think they'd be up my alley.
The weirdest band to me here is Incubus.
Actually really important early death metal band and they were Christian.
1988 death metal album called Serpent Temptation.
I mean there's being Christian and doing dm, and doing Christian Metal
Those two are different
To me, Metal is something areligious
Oh, no, the lyrics of Incubus are outright Christian.
Only other big death metal band like that with big cred is Mortification (and Embodyment if you're really into Texas DM ig).
Mortification kinda sucks imo.
Once Upon the Cross bangs so hard.
My favourite is Even the Gods Can Bleed
I love the opening track of Serpents of the Light too.
Ooh, speaking of the big very anti-religious death metal bands, you big on Nunslaughter?
Hells Unholy Fire is a banger album.
Were you the one that recommended Acid Witch the other day?
I was not, no.
There was Witch Vomit ,Anal Witch (?) and something else -Witch
Ah, I recommended Anal Vomit.
Ah right
Have you hit up Molested yet btw?
Not yet, i'm studying Probability and Statistics rn
I'll tell you what i think of it when i do
dw
cya
It's actually borderline melodeath.
