Eh, I don't really think any of them should be shut down but it makes sense why it was Rec Room instead. The game had a hard time sustaining in the market due to it's general identity crisis. Wasting alot of company time and resources on things that absolutely did not matter that heavily, like attempting to have the game be playable on majority gaming platforms. Not saying Vr Chat is any better, its just they didn't take too many risks and this is why they are still here because of it.

I think it being playable on a majority of platforms is the only reason they made it this far. I see more screen players then vr players when I get on. Yes it sucks but from a money standpoint those screen players are probably the reason they didn't shut down years ago

I think them appealing to investors instead of their player base is what backfired overall the players are what keep your game running. If your player base leaves you lose your investors. Investors do not care about your game only an how much money you make frfr

With update and stuff they need to make it compatible and cross platform for every platform (say wallahi bro) but it adds time and money spendings because each platform got its specificities

The engine they use (unity) does a lot of that compatiblility on its own and the backend shouldn't change really at all. But yes I guess if say play station had an update it could affect things but idk how often play station updates to the point of breaking input and stuff. However, yes more platforms does mean they have more companies to pay to keep their game on those platforms so in that regard yes it costs more money but in comparison to player count it's probably not much. But yes now that I think an it if only 2% of your player base spends money on your game per month it probably wasn't a wise decision to go to more platforms increasing your player count this increasing cost with still a terrible spend rate

Most definitely. The problem though that comes from it also being multi platform is them also having to pay flat 30% pay outs to each platform company that players purchase things on. So they were banking on return costs of how much resources went in to making said platforms compatible, hoping players who played in them, purchased things to essentially balance out the cost of even putting the energy into making the platform work. Which is huge reason why they didn't even attempt to port Rec Room over to PSVR2 because it most likely wouldn't have gained them any profit due to majority of the players not using that product in general.
The investors part is very accurate aswell. It was probably why they tried to push A.i. first aswell.

Recroom never had 3.5billion to my knowledge. They were once valued at a 3.5billion dollar company though around the COVID era when recroom was popping off. If they did have billions then its likely long gone by now.

Lack of money no funding. Recroom only had 2% of people spend money per month. Which is a really really bad rate. That 2% needs to pay for the other 98% of people which they didn't specify how much that 2% spent but it wasn't likely much

That and general profitability and market issues. Rec room is too big for VR and too small to be mainstream. And with the whole VR thing not being good and rec room being viewed as a VR app, they probably didn’t see it going anywhere and decided it was a better idea to shut the game down now and leave the employees with a parting gift rather than trying more and losing money in the process

Exactly if you know a business is going to collapse inevitably it's likely better to shut it down and at least keep enough money to not be homeless. We think it's bad for us but it must truly be a nightmare for the employees of recroom

Even if this were possible for you to give them this amount. It would probably only keep it alive for about another week. The game lost many investors and couldn't properly keep their servers open due to costs. Ontop of all of that, most of their Development team were getting paid around 21+$ an hour. Multiplying that with the amount of people they DID have on their team before the mass layoffs, they were burning through money super super fast. Then A.i. being adding into the game most likely was what solidified the grave for them because they had to pay to upkeep that in the game, and realistically Roomie was a tread that no one used after a week lol
