Hey there people with RR Steam issues!

I am writing this quick post explaining why and how to fix you guys not being able to launch Rec Room.

This is due to an issue with Windows Defender false flagging the Rec Room Anti-Cheat (Referee) and automatically deleting it from your system
Rec Room (unofficially stated) has stopped paying for their application's Signed Key which prevents false flags like Trojan:Win32/Ravartar!rfn being shown, don't worry you guys aren't being hacked!

The quickest way to fix this is to do the following:

[WARNING, REC ROOM'S SOFTWARE IS A TRUSTED SOURCE, DO NOT DO NOT DO THIS FOR ANY OTHER REPUTIABLE DISTRIBUTORS]

• Open Windows Security inside the search bar!
• Open Virus & threat protection and find the section for Virus & threat protection settings
• Click manage settings
• Scroll down to Exclusions and click Add or remove Exclusions (this will require you to be PC Admin)
• Add the FOLDER path C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RecRoom\
• Either restart your PC or head back into Protection History and click Restore on the RefereeClientApp

It's a false flag, Windows freaks out when a company doesn't pay for their Signed Key system for their apps

Well Referee has been decompiled many times (which is why there is often exploiter's in rec room), someone would of pointed it out that Rec Room is malicous

Honestly if I were you, use windows defender, the biggest thing to stop any virus is some common sense, dont download random files that get sent to you, dont downloaded random stuff off the Internet...etc.

1. Open Windows Security

   • Click the Start menu
   • Type “Windows Security” and open it

2. Go to Virus & Threat Protection

   • Click “Virus & threat protection”

3. Open Settings

   • Scroll down to “Virus & threat protection settings”
   • Click “Manage settings”

4. Add an Exclusion

   • Scroll down to “Exclusions”
   • Click “Add or remove exclusions”
   • (You may be asked for admin permission — click Yes)

5. Add the Rec Room Folder

   • Click “Add an exclusion” → “Folder”

   • Paste or navigate to this path:

     C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RecRoom\
     

   • Select the folder

6. Restore the File (if needed)

   • Go back to Virus & threat protection
   • Click “Protection history”
   • Find RefereeClientApp
   • Click “Restore”

7. Restart (Recommended)

   • Restart your PC to make sure changes apply
