#It’s rec room shutting down?

in 5 words: its either true or false
You do realise how long it takes to make updates for a game?
Just because they aren’t doing massive updates doesn’t mean they’re shutting down the game
She isn't playing for the final time, it's just rumours
False rumours
They didn’t get fired they got laid off
It's been really common for peoplet to make up rumours about rec room and a lot hasn't been true
Tell me that you don’t read the dev blogs without telling me you don’t read the dev blogs 😭
They say anything to spark something inside the community
It’s annoying especially with this
They might've lied but I doubt they would, they've talked a lot about being transparent
I know
They made like 3 blogs on they’re layoffs
People don’t read they’re dev blogs and then they go around saying stuff even though they literally talked about it
Exactly
It is clear that they aren't/weren't projected to stay stable in the near future but I think people are overreacting
I’m pretty sure they said that they could run this game to 2029
Rec room's community and game is different and I do miss it but I don't think its in that bad of a state
The devs would’ve told us by now if they’re shutting down the game
I think I remember seeing that, that's what they said the lay off helped with
I know, people saying 'credible sources' with no proof isn't really a credible source
I wouldn't believe it until there is some sort of evidence
They spent way too much money on MakerAi and they got so much backlash they removed it. AI costs a lot of money and they don’t a lot on it.
I thought it was very stupid of RR to go more into ai especially if there entire game is about being creative.
They lost so much money that they had to make everything cost more tokens
The devs are credible source they literally know what’s going on
I know, i meant people are saying credible sources are saying its shutting down lol
AI Kills games and I’m surprised it hasn’t killed RR yet
I think they've realised and avoided that
They haven’t
Roomie was a great AI addition because it didnt affect creativity
Roomie? Ai
Some rooms they made? Ai
And people pay for it
It costed a lot of money
I dont agree with the ai rooms tho
We wanted “pets” they could’ve used the MLM models but they had to make a flying robot
Which is kinda locked behind a paywall
That's true
I think they were looking at ways to profit from ai
and it back fired
It would've taken the work load off of them a lot
If your game resolves around creativity why the fuck would you add Ai to it? Most people hate Ai and stop using platforms when they go to it
Work load? That’s their job to work.
Yeah I dont understand why they want into that direction
They don’t get paid for walking around rec Centers
They bit off more than they could chew, especially with the small size of their team which made them lose money, they tried to save it with ai. That made it worse, then they needed to lay people off
It's a disappointing turn but I do believe they can sort themselves out
Also covid was a big part of their popularity and now that people arent stuck in their house anymore, rec room took a decent hit
I do believe that the rumours are fake because Rec Room would've said by now that the game would be shutting down, and besides, the game is doing somewhat well on the Quest store by being at number 13
Small things like them removing the weekly after seeing a large amount of people not doing it is evidence of them putting their time into more important things to make money
Not doing thingts like that shows the affect of the ending of covid and them losing money
I agree
They gotta release that making everything expensive so only partnered creators can buy it, not updating their RRO’s and when they make new ones they flop.
They say they’re listening to the community which I believe is true but I wish they could listen more to it. The only way to talk to the devs is from the RR+ lounge and guess what? ITS LOCKED BEHIND A PAYWALL!!
They need to either make a dev blog or do some collabs this year, the dev blogs could be about on why they aren’t making another quest or things they might add to RR
It used to be higher. Used to be top 1 when quest first launched
I do also think rec rooms choices of trying to be on every platform also hurt itself, a lot of kids invaded the game and it became so toxic
I mean, sure, they're doing some questionable things like removing fan favourites and all that, but, there is still a big group of people playing the game, y'know?
Because how many people are playing the game on Steam? Over 3K?
I think if they just shutdown, mobile and maybe switch it'll save them money. It would certainly mean they'll lose a lot of people but this game used to be a VR game and they've branched too far from that and that was the thing that was orignally making them money
I’ve played RR go 6 years and honestly this game has changed drastically which I don’t mind, every game changes but when rec room did it didn’t really make the game how it used to be back in 2020.
It’s either we are just growing up and realising that we don’t see what we saw years ago or we just want old RR back
And that means there isnt as much kids
Updates didn’t kill RR. We did.
3k isn’t a lot of players
The game has definitely changed, us growing up is also a factor but they strayed too far from their original audience to try gain more
I bet only 1k of them are online
It's still a lotta people if you really think about it
The Nintendo and PICO port was a waste of money
3k but only maybe 500-1000 of them actually play
Ooohhh pico i forgot about that
And I hate hearing those people that are like "OoOo, ThE gAmE iS dEaD"
Like, if the game was dead, the devs would've stop caring about the game like stop making updates for good or whatever
They wouldn’t stop caring they would just be slow on updates and discuss what they should do to bring players back
Like, if Rec Room still has an active community, it ain't dead
That's how I see it
Those rumors were taken from OUR personal inferences and OUR personal opinions. What's an opinion to a fact? Honest question. Don't get me wrong, Rec Room is in terrible shape, and it's more their fault than it is ours, but we're only making it worse by jumping to these conclusions. Sk0l literally took evidence from the things we say daily (ex-devs included), and seeing that Tarapeutic video in my recommendation is nothing more than a personal vlog to me. Unless word from staff comes out, it's not shutting down. Better yet, if we're still getting updates, it's definitely not shutting down.
Yeah, and I've been saying this for months, but, I would LOVE for Rec Room to jump on the movie wagon by adapting the game into a film since like, y'know, videogame movies are booming right now
Because like, imagine going into your local cinema and there was a poster for a Rec Room movie, how cool would that be?
i don't think its getting shut down
They need to get their lore together first. Roblox has its lore practically done, but it's also all over the place.
Ignoring the random hunts, it's only Robloxians vs Korblox. Done, the end.
Yeah, I understand that, but, I just like the idea of a Rec Room movie being made, y'know?
Ehhh, after what Mojang did for Minecraft, I kinda hope it doesn't happen. They basically just did a Jumanji remake. What's to say Nick won't do a story rip-off of their own?
Probably make it more like Stranger Things...
What if it was fully 3D animated and not live action?
(If there was a Rec Room movie, I mean)
I would guess that it would peak like the Super Mario Bros. movie, but that's uncertain.
And the main question is:
What would be even be about?
The origin of Rec Room's campus, all the way up to the Elseware lore. Probably adding several references for funnies. With something like Rec Room, there is no end, so it would probably be a TV show, at most, and given the nostalgic vibe of the game, that's why I said it would be more like Stranger Things. Honestly, with a mix of Magic School Bus, with Coach being an interdimensional school teacher.
I’ve just been seeing so many mixed videos of it saying it’s not shutting down and it is and I just don’t know who to believe
At this point, it's a flip of a coin from developers.
I mean, people have said that the developers are leading us on from encrypted messages
I personally believe it isn't since all these ex devs aren't showing literal proof that the game is shutting down besides like those messages
I mean, rec room hasn’t even made an official statement so you might be right
Encrypted, but still estimated/premeditated. Those are ex-developers, and any information from staff wouldn't be given to them because they're laid off and not working with Rec Room anymore. I doubt they're shutting down, though, if they can still make updates, let alone, have an active playerbase at all.
Yeah, like, they would've said by now that the game is shutting down and besides, they're EX devs, they shouldn't be able to have like inside on what's going with the future of the game
Sure, they play the game because they enjoy the vibes and the community, but they don't work there anymore. Any other information from them would just be contextual and inferred.
I don’t even know where the rumor even came from to be honest
It came from here, and ex-devs on Rec.Net with their media posts.
But mostly here, from us.
And like, there was rumours of the game shutting down last year, but, look at where it is now, it's still standing
Standing with 2000 active players a day
Yeah, 2K active players is still quite a lot of people, if you think about it
Definitely
It’s still a good amount of players
And usually all the popular games are still filled up with players so it’s not boring
I'm pretty sure that's just Steam though, it's a bit more than that, when collecting all devices.
VR probably has the majority
And if the game still has an active community and showing their support, the game isn't going anywhere any time soon
I sure hope so
It's honestly the smallest, along with PC (Steam included). Consoles beat them by a lot, and mobile is in-between.
Really consoles beat them?
Yeah, ever since crossplay became a thing, people were able to play it because not a lot of people had VRs due to affordable pay.
I wonder if Rec Room still gets updated on the Pico because that headset just randomly went radio silent for some reason
Rec room hasn’t really been keeping up with their updates
VRs and PCs are expensive. You have a better chance of getting a laptop for the same price as a console on Amazon than a whole desktop, even.
I would love for Rec Room to have a PSVR2 port even though Gribbly said that there wasn't like any point
I agree.
I mean, it is a 10 year old headset and tracking wasn't really that good
Isn’t PS VR better now?
The 2nd one is, yeah
Like, it's got:
- Inside out tracking
- Eye + hand tracking,
- Two OLED screens with 2,000 x 2,040 pixels per eye
The list goes on
Nah, because apparently Gribbly thinks it wasn't worth the money porting it over
Probably was too lazy to do the work
And wasn't Rec Room mean't to be on the Apple Vision Pro?
That’s gotta be one of the most stupid ideas I’ve ever heard
Most people with the Apple Vision Pro are uncs
It's true
The game was meant to come out on it
Is it happening or was it brushed off?
I think they canned it because of how flopped the headset was
I didn’t even understand the concept of the Apple Vision Pro
Like why would people buy that when you can just buy a VR headset that’s cheaper and better battery life
The closest thing we have to a Vision Pro port were these two screenshots
There's a video of it as well
That as well
Really?
I agree with him, they've got enough bank to last till 2029, so, the game isn't going anywhere anytime soon
wanted to make that video to clear up things
I DIDN'T KNOW THAT WAS YOUR VIDEO
Man, I'm stupid
yeah 😂
your all good lol
i go by many different names and have multiple youtube channels, it gets confusing
And it'll be kinda cool if they did more IRL merch collabs like that time they made a Makeship plush of Kevin
i still have mine lol the kevin plushie was cool, only 1,672 were made i believe
Someone's selling one on ebay but without the sword
I wish Rec Room made like perm items like CDs or whatever
i knowwwwww i would love a cd soundtrack
Because I'm not a big fan of like limited time stuff, tbh with ya
me either
alot of revenue could have happened during there 2022 peak if they made more merch
I think 2020 Rec Room was prime, ngl
I think I joined at a good time because I joined like two-three months before the FNAF hoodie came out
i remember the fnaf hoodie, that was like one of the best collabs
I remember the AJR collab
i remember the PSVR Frank collab
whats weird though is that PSVR had a PSVR exclusive skin for the burst paint rifle but they removed it from the game when they dropped PSVR 1 support
It's still in the game
Well, for me at least
it is? because i still don't have mine even though i played on PSVR
I think you can only use it if you have PS Plus, I'm pretty sure
I know you can use the skin on other platforms
that makes sense, i no longer have ps plus
I've got that one paintball burst rifle skin where it's like wooden
i forgot what skins i have its been so long since i actually took the time to play rec room
but anyways, ima hed out, i gotta film more videos for my main channel, it was nice meeting you though
I think my first ever skin was either the comic sword one or the lifeguard one for the railgun
Same to you
That would be gas, actually, just a whole Vol1-Vol3 collection to play on a phonograph, or those small little speaker things with tiny discs.
Yeah, a CD release of every RR soundtrack would be pretty sick
Agreed.
It just depends of their choices in the future but right now the answer is no
i have one
i wish they made more man
i wouldve bought every single 1 of them
they should do a mouse bot
and a big bog monster plush
A Jumbotron plush with removable screens would be pretty sick
they should hire us fr
honestly i was shocked that they didnt get that many buys with kevin
I think it's because he was a limited time plush and not a permanent one
it was from makeship, they said that if they get a specific amount of sales from that plush they would make it a permanent product
They could do like a re-release of the plushie
or do another 1 of their characters..
cough cough mouse bot
Mouse bot does sound better. The rest would be better off as action figures or something.
.
Pretty grand idea.
I don't think rec room is fully shutting down maybe for other consoles beside quest which I like the idea that rec room will go back to their old ways by going back where it all began quest and maybe a few years rec room will come back to concoles
The won’t shut down other consoles any time soon
I'm pretty sure the whole Meta shutdown was a personal business issue (Zuck is going through it rn), and things like Nintendo were a bit of a people-pleasing idea, without considering the implications of what could go wrong. Like not reading the terms and conditions and just clicking agree anyway. Other than that, yeah, there's not gonna be any shutdown for any other consoles.
The game is shutting down actually
Coach told me with tears in a call
😭
Yeah it's not
People make up anything.
So real.
It’s RR, what do you expect?
This community loves spreading false rumours then rectubers come along and make videos about it and then more kids believe it.
Question broskie, how did you get club support? also congrats on that btw
Yeah, even last year that there were rumours that the game was shutting down and look where it is now, it's still standing
People love praying for this games downfall
Idk lol, I joined the team after they got stuff going with rec room
Did they literally just dm you and say “hey twin, wanna join the creative team?” 😭
I was in a VC with them
And people love seeing squeakers ball their eyes out
Unfortunately
so mean for notingggg
On the contrary, the dumb things people say within a span of a month, despite many corrections, will make you facepalm out of pure instinct.
fake
Yes, indeed it is.
No it's not shutting down.
I wasn't talking about that. I'm saying the shutdown is fake.
Oh mb.
