New Referee update! Got to love it
@hollow path could you explain what this is?
no answer.
its pretty obvious atp they log so much stuff for "security reasons" to stop hackers/exploiters but it geniunly gets to a point theres no reason to be logging peoples emails and street address's its basically a rat atp no shot that thats legal bro 😭
it is its in there tos
But it doesn't say anything in there tos abt streetaddress
insane i also heard a while ago they were checking peoples discord token if you had discord installed and seeing if you were in cheating discord servers you would have to rename discord to bypass it i never got banned cause i use web but it happened to my friend
Hi, @past rain!
It looks like this post might be about bans.
For all matters ban-related, you can find more info here: https://recroom.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/4419901398423-Appealing-an-Account-Ban
Rec Room does not discuss bans publicly, nor will anyone on the Rec Room Discord be able to help with ban appeals.
wild
They sell our info trust!
there all data brokers😨
Our info is on dark web now
Ip ban?
no it's more then that.
they are logging email addresses and addresses so it would be more then just a ip ban
look at the image
^^
Contradicts it’s self
Collecting players personal info for no reason??
what??????
I'm pretty sure they can't do that without having a change to their privacy policy, which should notify people of what's been changed.
Definitely a concern that should be brought up if true.
They did, they covered it up in a update push
and not mentioning it anywhere besides on that document
Yeah pretty sure they're not allowed to that.
They'd have to clearly outline in their policies what's being collected.
Which would require them to send an email letting people know this has been changed and what.
Emails are not required at all
Just letting the general public know there is a change is all that’s required
Which is stated by the “promoted to install Referee prerequisites”
Dumb
Really?
That sucks.
I would've assumed by law they'd have to state what data they'd be collecting.
Most companies usually send out emails along the lines of "We've changed our Privacy Policy, which goes into effect at (DATE)."
Does this new data collection apply to all platforms?
This isn't from the Referee anti-cheat, it's part of certificate validation code in the open source libcurl library. It's a common library used in many apps so nothing special there.
I think you're misunderstanding. Biometric information is not your name, email, address, etc. It's your fingerprint, face, or retinal scan. There's no contradiction in what you posted.
okay thank you for finally someone bringing a proper answer
but doesnt that still mean they‘re allowed to collect it
I don't see why they would collect it, honestly. Or even how. I can understand it needing to be in the TOS because you need to give a billing address to use a credit card and that sort of thing. But for the anti-cheat to collect it wouldn't make sense - where would they even get it from? I certainly don't have my address stored on my PC somewhere.
Forgot to add this
This is correct. Just because someone found a word in our code does not mean we’re gathering that information, much less sending it to our severs. OP redacted the next lines to imply it’s their personal info, but that’s deliberate fear mongering. Referee gathers some information to help us identify and block alt accounts, but we don’t share your personal info except in the very narrow situations explained in our TOS - and we never sell it.
Not OP but thank you for responding.
That actually gives me a lot of trust about that, was a little concerning.
Honestly it wouldnt surprise me
explain the string "emailAddress" then
that's not in libcurl
I think you'll find you're mistaken.
...also.
You do realise you use an email on your account right?
They have your email. 😆
true thats actually quite a dumb question
I think we can close this thread now that we got the answer by a dev
thanks @hollow path for clearing things up
Yeah this can be closed.
It's good that they actually responded head on.
Most devs would plug their ears.

fair enough
but it shouldn't be used for Referee it has no reason TO be used for referee
but ig that clears up the strings so
They literally said why it's there. It's in the strings of libcurl. The developers are not storing your email, and when they are, you literally gave it to them anyway for your account.
Do I know what libcurl is and why it's there? Hell no, don't ask me. I know nothing about how Rec Room works.
But the dev and other commenters here have explained why.
And even the developer above said "Referee gathers some information to help us identity and block alt accounts, but we don't share your personal info except in the very narrow situations explained in our TOS - and we never sell it."
Someone is just Find someone’s USER ID and then hack into the files and get their address, this is basically doxxing wtf
Biometric is stuff like DNA, fingerprints, eye, face, and stuff like that
libcurl is used for sending requests in c++
Thanks for clarifying. :)
which they use because they need to get the Referee.dll which then they load it on the process
