My experience as a furry on Rec Room.

Hey guys it's Rec Room's favorite lore nerd, Pearl. And today I'm gonna be talking about how it's like to be a furry in modern day rec room.

How it (kind of) started:

I've been a furry for the past ten months, joining the community in August of 2024. And I like it, but I didn't like how I couldn't express it on rec room, until I found out that people were making ugc furry heads, and I was stoked. I immediately bought that protogen head I saw on the catalog for 5000 tokens and I don't regret my decision.

Overall reactions:

When I first stepped out of my dorm room after changing my outfit I was fully expecting to be harassed for being a furry and getting votekicked everywhere I went. But surprisingly, the feedback I got was very positive. Way more positive then I expected. I mean sure, sometimes there would be one person in the lobby being toxic to me and acting like a child because they're in a lobby with a furry and they're thought processes haven't changed since 2022, but usually people are very supportive about my expression.

A Few Stories:

I wanna talk about some specific funny things that have happened, because I just want to.

Toxic kid in paintball:
There was this one time where I was playing paintball, just having fun. Being respectful and following the code of conduct, but then this kid on the enemy team starts chewing me out for being a furry, I don't say anything about his insults. Because I was muted, but then he kept insulting me, telling me to kill myself, etc. But why should I act like what this kid is saying actually matters, his game eventually crashed and I talked to someone else who I assume wasn't a twelve year old love child. And he said he was being toxic to him too, so I guess he was just a cranky little baby.

Drunk, Mentally Challenged, or Missing Wisdom Teeth?:

Contrary to the last story, this one is another instance of someone walking up to me and being like "oh your a furry that's so cool dude." But this time, this guy walks up to me in the rec center, and I can hardly understand what he's saying because he was either drunk, on anesthetic or just mentally challenged. He was nice though.

I didn't read anything other than the title of this post, in assuming you're sharing stories of hate towards you, that's something you're going to need to live with, no matter where you go, people will look down on you
