Ai can have some great uses, like for things that are almost impossible for humans to do, like moderation (but this is its own can of worms because it has to be done very well to not be intrusive). You can't always have a moderator around at all times in every conversation.

But what rec room is doing now is adding gimmicks. Gimmicks that are either useless or replace someone. MakerAI automates creation, we can all agree that's a bad thing in a game about creativity. It's the replacing kind. Roomie is a glorified chat bot. You can just talk to people, and if you want to know something, just look it up. It's the useless kind. Toxmod, the ai moderation tool that rec room uses, is pretty good if used right. I personally think it could use some tweaking but other than that it's good. It's the useful kind and not a gimmick.

These gimmicks are a big waste of money at a time where rec room is already openly begging for your wallet in blog posts. Some devs themselves even admit that they think makerAi won't help players, and instead is just there to have some "AI fun". Fun 2$ per day.

Running AI is incredibly expensive. Most generative AI models are also based on stolen data from artists and even normal social media users like you and me without our direct consent. Rec room chose to dig their own hole while somehow also having their CEO whine about how little money they're making. You can't cry "they have to make money somehow" when they consistently use the worst and most morally disgusting ways of doing so, and then complain when it doesn't work out in their favor
